Hello 331dot (talk · contribs),
As someone who works with this user, I can tell you that this username has no link to a company or an organization and is a creation by the user.
If other actions are needed, could you please explain why you left this message.
I'm responding to your message because this user is not fluent in english. Have a nice day! Letartean (talk) 23:19, 23 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
The username reads to me as an abbreviation for "National Archives" and many of their edits seem related to an art museum(which might have an archive). However, I accept your explanation and will not pursue this. 331dot (talk) 00:10, 24 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I noticed you've been adding many links to the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with that, but if you have a connection to this institution, you should probably disclose a conflict of interest. You may also be interested in the GLAM–Wiki initiative, a project that works to include content from galleries and museums. They have a beginner's page that might help you. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:16, 18 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you NinjaRobortPirate for your notice. I would read the disclose. Yes, we are interested about GLAM-Wiki initiative. My first language is French and I try to found some informations in French about the GLAM-Wiki. I just complete my profile in English. I hope, you will understand my goals to promote the museum's collections in French and also in English--Natharchives (talk) 19:39, 18 January 2020 (UTC).Reply
(talk page stalker) I've been seeing Natharchives doing good work all over the wiki, and never noticed the apparent COI. I am actually surprised that she or he works there; I guess I never put 2+2 togther with the user name. In Quebec it is a very highly respected place. I think there are a lot of good intentions here, and quality contributions. As a clear disclosure is in place on their user page, I am not seeing big problems with the COI, given the quality of edits. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:35, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

MNBAQ collection inventory

edit

Hi Natarchives! I came to leave you another note, which I will do next. First I wanted to ask if there is a public "flat list" (fichier Excel, doc, txt etcetera) of the artist in the collection?ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:31, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi ThatMontrealIP! Thank you for your explanations and comprenhension above my contribution and my passion of Wikidata, Wikipedia (French and English). I'm a beginner and my motivation is very high to promote Quebec and Canadians Artists. Yes if you look on the website Données ouvertes (Gouvernement du Québec). You will find a list of works of art by the MNBAQ (excel, jason) colonnes with : artist, title, date of production, category, etc. We already complete the project for the paintings in the Museum (Sum of all paintings on wikidata : artists and paintings). Sorry for my english. I understand very well but I never write in English.--Natharchives (talk) 12:42, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
thank you, I found the link! Merci, j'ai trouvé le lien! ThatMontrealIP (talk) 03:02, 11 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for showing up in my watchlist so often with your good additions to the wiki... Merci pour votre travail! If you ever want to write me in French on my talk page, feel free as I understand it perfectly. I will reply in English (parce-que mon Français écrit est vraiment terrible). ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:32, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Wow First time, I have a star on Wiki. It's motivating. Your collaboration for the canadian artists in English is important and sustained. I try to initiate the same things in French. We are trying to create a community in Quebec City around the artistic and cultural heritage. This is the start for us.--Natharchives (talk) 12:46, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

John Young Johnstone

edit

Bonjour! Since we have the option on en-wiki of using one photo of an artwork under the non-free content criteria, it would be nice to display one of Johnstone's paintings in the article. It looks like you might be the right person to ask which one would be representative and suitable for the article. Could you please be so kind as to give me a suggestion? Perhaps with a good url. All the best, cart-Talk 17:18, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I will prepare a photo in the few days thank you --Natharchives (talk) 17:29, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sources

edit

Hello! When you add an item like this, you need also to include a source (reference). Thanks.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 23:37, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes ThatMontrealIP. In English, i have to learn the code to include a source. It's different than in French. Thank you for your reminder. I will return and try. Please let me know if it's ok ? --Natharchives (talk) 23:45, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Here is what I do:
  1. Put the <ref> </ref> where I want the source. This is at the bottom of the edit window.
  2. Put the URL inside that <ref>https://collections.mnbaq.org/fr/artiste/600011629</ref>
  3. Save. Now you have a "bare reference", but it needs to be filled out.
  4. go to https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/ and put the article name in the box: "Omalluq Oshutsiaq". Click "Fix page and it will show you the result and ask you to save!
Let me know if you need help! ThatMontrealIP (talk) 23:52, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the tool. I will try. I put manually the reference. I hope it's ok ? --Natharchives (talk) 23:54, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Manually is OK, but it takes a long time! What you did looked good, except the ref always goes after punctuation. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 23:58, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also, you can go to Preferences>Gadgets>Editing and turn on "Citation expander: automatically expand and format citations using Citation bot", this gives you a button to use instead of going to the ReFill page. Works most of the time.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:00, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Merci !!! --Natharchives (talk) 00:06, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:13, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
--Natharchives (talk) 00:22, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Stay safe.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:27, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Collection

edit

FYI I am making articles for women from the MNBAQ collection now. The articles are very short, usually "stubs". I used the list you gave me above from the Quebec Open Data site. If you have images for any of the artists that would be great. List is here, the most recent ones. I am at last name "G" en ce moment. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 19:27, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wow ! Thank you ThatMontrealIP. Could I help you with any operation on this work? You can do short articles in English ? In French, we can't introduce shorthly an artist. --Natharchives (talk) 20:47, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Natharchives, Yes it's possible to do short articles, they are called stubs in English. No help needed, but if you have images, let me know!ThatMontrealIP (talk) 20:58, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ok! A BIG thank you for this beginning of articles. I have one more question. In English Wikipedia, Do you use Infobox? In French, we use wikidata and the infobox Artist. But in the English Version, I dont see a lot of infobox/Wikidata? It's different ? --Natharchives (talk) 21:00, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi. In English it is optional to use an Infobox. Once an article is bigger, it is a good idea. I don't know much about Wikidata, but I think my articles are automatically connected, via the Authority Control template.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 21:16, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Last question? It's the same thing for the mention of autorities: VIAF, ISNI, etc. I dont see on English version of Wikipedia. It's facultative?--Natharchives (talk) 21:25, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
ah, I have never heard anyone use facultative in English, It is indeed a word but I think it is more common in French as "facultatif"? So I am not sure what you mean by that. I do know some editors are big on using external databases (VIAF) etc. I do not know much about that. I have the authority control template in all the articles I make, and about a day after the article is created I get a message saying "X page was connected to Wikidata". Ask any questions you like, I am happy to answer! ThatMontrealIP (talk) 21:45, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for my english. You answer to my question! Optionnal was the good word. Thanks again for the english version of artists. I really appreciate--Natharchives (talk) 21:48, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I insert an image for Sylvie Blocher and Jacinthe Carrier! --Natharchives (talk) 21:50, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Your English is great! Yes, I asked a French friend and they said it means "not necessary". Usually we say "unnecessary" or "optional" in English. If you go tot he Authority control page linked above, you can find more information about it. In the Wikimedia foundation such things are big issues and there are many research projects, I think. I'm not a museum professional, so I know little about the "metadata" for objects. The images are great! I have the crop tool turned on in Commons, so I cropped the Clocher image. This is a great collaboration! This cannot be true, I think. Merci de Montréal. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 21:56, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
The magic of the galaxy Wiki .. collaboration, complementary actions... Looking forward. Bon weekend --Natharchives (talk) 22:03, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Jean McEwen

edit

I can't believe there was no article for Jean McEwen until now! He has such a huge reputation... Do you think you have any images that could be used?ThatMontrealIP (talk) 15:32, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Bonjour ! I agree with you. Unfortunately it is subject to copyright. It is the collective management company Socan which manages the rights of distribution and reproduction of its works.--Natharchives (talk) 15:59, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Done

edit

Hey! I finished going through the list of artists in the MNBAQ collection. I managed to make about 65 stubs for mostly women artists. Sometimes the Inuit names sounded to me like women's names in English (Isa, Palousie etc), so there are a few men too! Thank you for the tip on how to find the data. The MNBAQ's online collection search is really excellent; I think only the Metropolitan Museum of art has a better search function!ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:17, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

PS: per Wikipedia:Talk_page_guidelines, you can delete things from your talk page that are old or that you do not want... ThatMontrealIP (talk) 00:17, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Bonjour ThatMontrealIP, I really appreciate your work and your comments. I complete the wikidata element of these artists of your list. It's a good team works. We have now 3000 artists with Wikidata element and more than 900 artists with English and French articles on Wikpedia. Your collaboration help a lot !--Natharchives (talk) 13:42, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi! My pleasure. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 13:54, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

A WCNA Barncompass for you!

  WCNA 2023 Barncompass
Thank you for attending Thomas Fisher Rare Books Library culture crawl tour and your contributions to many French articles about Canada. I am awarding this barncompass to you. (Barncompass originated in Wikivoyage as a response to Wikipedia's barnstar. Since everyone travelled long distances for the conference and would have no doubt pulled out a map app at some point, awarding a barncompass is probably as fitting as a barnstar.)
