Upcoming Edit a thon for Latin music in Miami

[edit]

Hi Natalia! My name is Erick (my username is magiciandude), I am the creator and a member of WikiProject Latin music. I noticed that on your user page you work for the Latin Grammys as part of communications. It is good that you have mentioned your conflict of interest per our policy at WP:COI. On the talk page for Manuel Abud's article, you mentioned about wanting to rewrite the opening lead. While we encourage anybody to edit on Wikipedia, editors, who have strong ties to a company are discouraged from doing so and instead can request someone who is not affiliated to edit on their behalf.

That being said, we have what is called an edit athon event dedicated to Latin music in Miami this August 30th. What this means is we will gather people who are interested about a certain topic to edit articles related to the subject of the topic particularly recruiting new people to Wikipedia both in English and in Spanish.

We believe the Latin Recording Academy would be a perfect partner for the event. Your organization can introduce themselves as well as provide suggestions for articles that should be edited or created. The events will be held at the Miami Dade public library. For example going back to Manuel Abud, the organization can suggest his article to be improved while maybe creating articles for other organizations like the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation as well as potentially Latin Grammy winners and nominees and their works of art including albums and songs.

For the event itself, in addition to introducing people to editing Wikipedia we will also have a dance event as well including potentially a Latin musician guest invited by the International Salsa Museum for a segment to introduce himself.

You can find more information about the event here. If you or your organization have any questions about the event please feel free to contact me at my talk page or ask @Oscar .: from WikiLatinos. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Erick (talk) 15:33, 14 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Erick! I would love to. However, I'll be in Spain for an event The Latin Grammys hosts called Celebra. My colleague Ive however will be in Miami. What would she need to bring or plan for the event?
  • A list of Latin Grammy award winners and other pages that are especially bad and could use improvement
  • Annotated versions of pages with things we feel are incorrect
  • Should she bring swag or talk about our organization at all or is that improper?

Hi Natalia! Thank you so much for your reply! Any or all the above mentioned on the bullet points would be fantastic (especially the swag)! And she may absolutely talk about organization and can even invite additional people from the organization's circle. If Ive would like to connect with us, can she send an email to crystalboceta@wikimedianyc.org (that is Crystal Boceta's email, a Wikimedia member) or would she prefer to be contacted by email? Also here is the Eventbrite page for the event. Erick (talk) 15:32, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
That's great to hear, Erick. We'll reach out to Crystal to coordinate details and Ive will make plans to attend the event. Looking forward to connecting. Ndeory (talk) 17:23, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
