A Request

edit

Please make a legacy section in the article of Bruce Dickinson as soon as possible. It would be a good step for you to learn how to create articles. Many newbie artist have got their legacy but this legendary artist hasn't. Which is a disrespectful thing to hear. Sort out the matter bro and tell me if I can help you. 47.9.81.186 (talk) 08:59, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Over 40 Countries No 1 Album: The Book of Souls

edit

Hi! I'd like to share some link and inform you, that all press releases, band's official bio and press articles around the world state, that last Maiden album reached the top positions (Nr ONE) in over 40 countries around the globe in over 40 different countries. Here is one of the source: http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/oct/19/iron-maiden-confirm-download-2016-as-only-uk-date See the press releases including in tour dates announcement, you'll find all the countries and detailed infos. I think we should improve the datas connected to the "The Book of Souls" chart history. Nowadays the statement that phisical copies or digital are minor or more valid is completely out of reason. In many countries around last Maiden album was released onli in digital format! Look at the band's statement - all around Top 1 CD or Digital File (official of course).

PLEASE - check it out!

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. 04:37, 16 December 2016 (UTC)Signyred (talk)== "Not Noteworthy" depends rather on your perspective ==

Hi there, Now I've read your interests I can see why you are the main editor of the Iron Maiden Wiki pages and just thought I'd contact you to let you know my reasons for adding a section just before Christmas on the "Iron Maiden Wood" that you removed shortly afterwards. I rediscovered the image of a Certificate entitled "Iron Maiden Future Forests" recently on my computer and it reminded me how difficult it was back in 2011 to find out the whereabouts of the "Iron Maiden Wood". My son Ian Edwards was a great fan of Maiden, Man-o-war, Majesty (& loads of other less well known Black & Power metal bands). See Facebook pages Ian Edwards: Celebration of a Legend & Ian Edwards Cancer Break Trust if you want to know more When he died of cancer at the end of 2010 (aged 29) he requested in his will that some of his ashes be buried in "The Iron Maiden Wood" that he had heard of through the CD but neither he nor I had any idea of where it was. Neither had the Iron Maiden fan club when we tried these. We would never have had the chance to meet this last request because, as you say, " Google search found no further sources" but one of his old flat mates managed to track things down after a lot of time on the internet via a music chat room.

Hence my idea to add a section to the Iron Maiden Wiki entry - Nobody seems to know anything about something Irom Maiden obviously felt strongly about at the time - and maybe it would help other fans of theirs or their next of kin find a suitable last resting place.

I thought it was quite "noteworthy", especially as I had a couple of references to back up the assertion that something called Brown's Wood in Leicestershire is actually the (or one of the) Iron Maiden woods. We visit it every February to check the memorial plaque to Ian is still in good nick and there is another memorial nearby in the wood (not to an Iron Maiden fan) However, if you still think it not worth 2 or 3 lines in Wiki then so be it! Best wishes John Edwards Ian's father jaejed@hotmail.com 92.238.65.40 (talk) 20:51, 27 December 2015 (UTC)signyredReply

Many thanks for your message and please accept my apologies if you found my reversion in any way offensive, as I can understand how personally you must feel about this particular topic. I realise how the reasons I gave in my edit summary may have been inadequate given how few characters we can use, so I will attempt to explain more thoroughly why I removed the content.
As an editor of the page (not the main editor I would hasten to add), I assess content on the grounds of notability and verifiability and I only removed your content because it did not appear to match these criteria. In the sources which you provided, the band's name only appeared in two: a Facebook post, which cannot be used under Wikipedia's verifiability guidelines, and one from treehugger.com, which only mentions the band's name in connection to tree planting programmes and doesn't confirm the existence of an actual wood named after them. The band's absence from the two other sources bearing information about the location were also a problem; if the wood was notable then it follows that it would be featured on a map of the full area.
After checking these references, I also undertook a search for further sources and, as you found a few years ago, uncovered no further results. As a band of 40 years, a single page on Wikipedia provides a very small amount of space in which one can accurately summarise all of Iron Maiden's achievements. This means we must be rather selective about what is added to the page and, as a musical group, their most significant accomplishments have been well documented both in specialist publications and in mainstream media. On this basis, when virtually no search results can be found to back up the information submitted for inclusion, the content's apparent notability is severely undermined.
Hopefully I have made my case clearer, but I am of course still contactable on this page if you still have concerns. As I wrote previously, I am not the main editor of any page and I act only by my own judgement using Wikipedia guidelines. If you still think that I have made a mistake, feel free to start a topic on the article's talk page where the issue can be discussed with other editors and a consensus can be reached.
Sincerely, Nerdtrap (talk) 18:21, 29 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear Nerdtrap, Thank you for responding to my query and my apologies for the fact that I only discovered it almost a year later (I don't write for Wiki very often!) I appreciate that Facebook is not a reliable source but alas the Ian Edwards Cancer Break Trust's website went down in 2012 when a server crashed and it has never been set up again as Facebook is good enough to keep contact with Ian's friends. There is no need longer a need for a website either, as the Trust will be closing next year having raised over £55,000 to help cancer patients take morale-boosting breaks. Somewhere I have a photo of one of the "Iron Maiden" certificates that people could get in connection with the "Dance of Death" album but although it mentions the location of the wood (confirming that Brown's Wood is it) it also has someone (who I don't know)'s name on it and so this could not be used to give veracity to the location. My wife & I visited "Browns Wood" yesterday, the 6th anniversary of Ian's death, and his is still one of only 2 memorials in the woodland which is growing well. There probably will not be any others if neither the Iron Maiden fan club nor Wiki are able to let fans know of it's existence but maybe it's better that way for us. Best wishes Signyred

Hello,

I'll be cleaning up the 'Maiden articles for page format continuity and various errors (which I will tackle when I have source material ready to use), as its a large body of work, and been done by various people quite obviously, which I've been doing with various pieces of bands albums articles, as a musician myself who has the time now to do so. I'm newly back to the 'pedia since my injury and find myself in need of something to occupy my mind. I'm open to debates and discussions with polite reasonable people but I've already ended up in various 'battlegrounds' with 'editors' just trashing my work without consulting me first. Oshwah is my mentor and I have worked through said issues in the main with him and Drmies, so I'm here to learn and to help. Nuro msg me 00:43, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Please feel free to go ahead with this; I don't own the pages of course, I just edit when I can. I have less time available for editing at the moment and I'm aware that many pages need clearing up (particularly some singles articles) so I'll be pleased if someone is willing to tackle these issues. I never revert maliciously and am happy to chat about editing issues on talk pages (I find the character limit in the edit summary can sometimes be an issue in explaining reverts fully) so please feel free to contact me at any time.
I notice you have been converting singles track listings into the track listing template. While there are (rather unhelpfully) no guidelines on the WP:SONGS page, the MOS guide for Albums (Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Album article style guide#Track listing) suggests upgrading to the template for complicated situations. Is there a particular reason for the change?
Many thanks, Nerdtrap (talk) 08:39, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Here's why I removed the piping.

The names of venues tend to change because of sponsorship deals with naming rights. A redirect provides a simple way to ensure that all links to an old name will go to the article under the current name. Piping an old name to the current name is pointless because if the name changes again, as it surely will when the current sponsorship deal comes to an end, the piped name will itself become a redirect and the already trivial benefit of a direct link will be lost. (The additional runtime cost of processing a click on a redirect is trivial, and even then is rarely incurred as most links are accessed only rather infrequently.)

Here are some relevant extracts from guides to best practice in piping and redirects:

  1. From Wikipedia:Piped_link#When_not_to_use:
  • It is generally not good practice to pipe links simply to avoid redirects. The number of links to a redirect page can be a useful gauge of when it would be helpful to spin off a subtopic of an article into its own page.
  • Introducing unnecessary invisible text makes the article more difficult to read in page source form.
  • Non-piped links make better use of the "what links here" tool, making it easier to track how articles are linked and helping with large-scale changes to links.
  1. From Wikipedia:Redirect#Do_not_.22fix.22_links_to_redirects_that_are_not_broken:
  • There is usually nothing wrong with linking to redirects to articles. Some editors are tempted, upon finding a link to a redirect page, to bypass the redirect and point the link directly at the target page. While there are a limited number of cases where this is beneficial, there is otherwise no good reason to pipe links solely to avoid redirects. Doing so is generally an unhelpful, time-wasting exercise that can actually be detrimental. It is almost never helpful to replace [[redirect]] with [[target|redirect]].

Colonies Chris (talk) 08:41, 18 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the explanation. Apologies for the reverts, I was under the impression that we should pipe links but obviously I was mistaken.--Nerdtrap (talk) 15:20, 21 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Final Frontier World Tour Edit

edit

Hello! I see you reverted my edit about the city of the concert of April 5, 2011 on the page of The Final Frontier World Tour. This concert happened at Expotrade Arena (Expotrade Convention Center), which is not located in Curitiba, but in Pinhais, that is a city of the metropolitan area of Curitiba. You can confirm that by checking the address at the bottom of the venue's official page (http://www.expo-trade.com.br/), and also by searching it on Google Maps. The reason why the concert was promoted as being held in Curitiba is because it is the capital and largest city of the brazilian state Paraná, while Pinhais is the smallest city of Paraná in extension and also one of the newest (it has only 26 years, while Curitiba completes 325 years this week).
