Thanks for promoting me! Just a note, in the future, you should remove +rollback and/or +accountcreator and/or +IPblockexempt when you promote someone to admin. Now my first log as an admin is removing +rollback from myself :P

Thanks again, and I'll do my best to honor the trust the community has given me.

Nicholas, It is usually done using recursive category search. I searched for categories, templates and articles under Category:Mumbai and have listed them at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mumbai/Articles/Sandbox. Is that what you had in mind? Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 20:14, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I had to fix this to get rid of the bollywood content. I have updated the list again...please do check it out. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 02:26, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I cannot exclude those categories from the listing. I used AWB's recursive category search feature to get the list. It currently lets me search a single category (Mumbai in this case). I does not let me exclude a child categories. I have requested for the feature now. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 04:31, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
The feature was available in a beta version. I was able to remove the categories that you mentioned. I have the created the following pages:

Use {{nts}} to sort the numbers; however, the cm will have to be converted to m. Otherwise, just disable sorting on the tables as sorting isn't perfect. Gary King (talk) 20:54, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, {{sort}} can be used to sort those values if needed. I should have mentioned that earlier – sorry! Gary King (talk) 04:46, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, but I've given up all hopes on them sorting correctly. Just refuses to work. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:48, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

SUL

edit

What do we do with the SUL requests where they have NONE (SUL REQUEST)? Rename won't do that once you blow away the target name to make way for a rename. Seems they either need to create a temp name to begin with or we blow away the target name (if we approved) and then they can simply create the target name at that point. RlevseTalk 23:04, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

When there's an SUL request, and the requester is an IP, you simply rename the username to example (usurped) and that will leave the IP free to create the global account and take the name. There's no need for them to create a temp account, they might not even use (or create) the name on en.wiki - SUL simply reserves the name in case they ever do. Ryan PostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 23:11, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Rlevse, to put it very simply, when the requester says "None ..." it means that they need the current account blasted out of the way so their global account will "take over" the previous "space" held by the account. That's how I think of it. Maxim(talk) 23:45, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Cool, that's actually what I did in that one case. I'll go mark it closed now. RlevseTalk 00:04, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Re to Nichalp from my talk page--I have no problem with the IP posting on his home page as a security check-for IP SUL requests. I'll post on BN. As for meta usurping issue, that needs to be done at meta level, I think. Or if you want to work out our own version first on WT:BN, that's fine. You propose that one, I'll do the IP one on WP:BN. I agree the IPs in this situation should not have to create an account just to make a request. If approved, we can just blow away the local account.RlevseTalk 13:15, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:Bot

edit

Hi Nicholas,

AWB can do all the applications you had listed. There is always the option to write the code from the scratch (using various frameworks, Python, .NET, Java etc.). But using AWB takes care of most of the work. Here is how:

1) New article creation, Infobox addition, Succession box: AWB with the use of the CSV plugin can do all these. If you have a CSV file available, we can test it out. You will need to request a bot-approval before you start publishing.

2) WP India banner: AWB with the use of Kingboy's plugin can do this. You will need to request a seperate bot-approval for this task. I had used the plugin's manual assessment feature to complete your measurement unit task.

Hope to see Nichalp-bot in action soon. Please feel free to ask more questions.

I've modified the template to support this, but haven't changed the preload text yet. Still thinking about whether it will cause any more issues (also, the instructions would have to be changed, and they're in an image.) Also, it's been a while since I've been active on CHU, and I don't know if there are any bots that depend on the current format. --Random832 (contribs) 19:51, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:File upload bot

edit

I suggest that you upload all the photos using the basic file upload service. You will have to rename the files prior to the upload. And then use the AWB with CSV plugin to update the description, licenses, geo-coding, categories and other information. The first column in the CSV file with contain the Image names. Please note the CSV plugin is in the beta stage. You will need to get on Windows soon...atleast for running AWB. :) Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 02:53, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
