Hi NikkiJean92! I see you started the Wikipedia Adventure course! It's a great tool for any new editor looking to learn the basics. However, the "adventure" is definitely not as up-to-date as it once was, so if you have any questions that the course is unable to help with, please feel free to ask me. Happy editing! --VersaceSpace 🌃 02:43, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @VersaceSpace As you can see I'm new here. I joined because a picture of someone else was posted as me on the page representing my career. It began to cause a lot of challenges. In working that out I uploaded a picture that I took. People have been great and so helpful. I didn't know how to put the correct permissions so I got a notice that the new pic might be deleted. I sent the email to permissions like requested and it said, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{#invoke:Protection banner|main}} on file description page. Which I attempted but haven't figured out. So I'm taking the course in the hopes I'll learn. If i can't learn that in the course if you could please point me toward where I can learn it. Thank you so much! NikkiJean92 (talk) 03:25, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- NikkiJean92, files can get icky on here. In order for a picture of a living person to be allowed on Wikipedia, it needs to be completely freely licensed. This means that any press photos you took throughout your career are ineligible to be uploaded unless they are freely licensed (and they probably aren't). I think the issue you are facing is more about the photo in general. --VersaceSpace 🌃 03:34, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- This is a self portrait though, and labeled as such. I sent the email stating that as well. I'm not sure what else to do. NikkiJean92 (talk) 03:36, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- NikkiJean92, if what you're saying is that you took the photo yourself, then it is allowed on Wikipedia. In which case you should explain that to whoever is trying to delete the file. If you have done this already, await a response and let me know what they respond with. Thanks! --VersaceSpace 🌃 03:42, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- NikkiJean92, OK, I may have misread what you wrote. The response e-mail sent to you entails that the file is allowed, so you can remove the no permissions tag, which you can do by editing the file page and removing something that looks like this: {{No permission since}}. You will then replace it with the other mentioned template. I don't edit at Commons so you should prob ask someone who edits over there. --VersaceSpace 🌃 03:52, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! When I woke up this morning. . i had no idea how complex it can get in here. Thank you for your patience and time, I'll give that a try. NikkiJean92 (talk) 03:54, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- No problem! Most of my editing relates to articles on Wikipedia and not editing files, so you might have been better suited asking someone on Commons, but the issue seems to be close to being solved anyway. Happy editing! --VersaceSpace 🌃 04:00, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Question
editHey! I noticed that you had used {{#invoke:Protection banner|main}}
on your talk page. May I ask - where did you find this, or has someone told you to use this? I've recently noticed multiple users using this, even though its in the completely wrong scenario. Don't worry, theres no issues. I'm just curious, as you are the second person I've seen using this. Aidan9382 (talk) 19:07, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi! I was curious about that too! I didn't do anything (intentionally) to add it. I'm so new I don't even know what it means. Thanks for saying don't worry. Theres a lot to learn around here. I'm doing my best to balance be bold with be careful. NikkiJean92 (talk) 21:56, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Based on what you said above, I assume you received a reply to an email which you sent the Wikimedia permissions folks, and that reply said to replace the {{No permission since}} template with {{#invoke:Protection banner|main}}. Is that correct? It does seem very strange; if multiple people are doing it, they must all be receiving those strange instructions. Maybe something to take up with WP:VRT (they seem to handle the permissions stuff), @Aidan9382. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 22:11, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Quick follow up message while I'm looking into stuff. Nikki, it seems the issue is to do with cross-wiki weirdness, and you've done nothing wrong. If you need to mark a page as "Permission pending" specifically on the english wikipedia (which is what I believe you are trying to do), you should actually use
{{subst:OP}}
as opposed to{{subst:PP}}
. I hope this clears up some confusion. If not, feel free to ask me some more questions. Aidan9382 (talk) 05:26, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
