Hello! I see that you redirected the article as per the AfD discussion. You made a mistake and redirected it to the Deletion Policy page, so I have corrected this. The correct way to redirect a page is to write #REDIRECT Target article. You left the double square brackets out, hence the mistake. Regards, (aeropagitica) 19:50, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks again!

I am wondering if we should create a separate article (given that the region is known as the Carousel Capitol of the World). Otherwise, I can post them here, or in the respective city articles. Let me know what you think. Thanks for your excellent content and edits, Mahatmabenfoo! Nimur 20:38, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Mahatmabenfoo replied: Hi, Nimur! I can't figure out yet how to contact you, so hopefully you will read this. First, thanks for the compliments! I don't live in Johnson City anymore, but I have an ongoing interest in the area, and visit it periodically. I have a collection of pictures and postcards of the E-J plants, but I haven't learned to upload them yet.
A separate article about the Carousel Capitol of the World makes sense. Many people who will be interested in the Carousels of the triple cities will have little interest in E-J who's factories are now mostly long gone.
I suggest you leave the very short treatment I gave the subject (as an enduring legacy of Endicott-Johnson), but yes, yes! a link to a separate more in depth article would be terrific. There's a lot to say about Carousels generally, and what percentage of the total of wood carved ones are in the Triple Cities area, and all that. I'll happily leave all that to you, and I'll be happy to send you what research I have on the chance you will want to use it. For example, how's this as an amazing bunch of (what are probably) facts: Between 1880 and 1930, the golden age of carousels, over 10,000 were built. Fewer than 200 remain and six of them are in Broome County! Nationwide only 13 carousels remain at the site where they were originally built, five of those are in Broome County (the Highland Park carousel was originally at Ideal Park now the site of U-E football stadium). NC Highways WikiProject
editHey Nimur and welcome to the North Carolina State Highways WikiProject. Just edit and add stuff when and where you feel like it. I've noticed from the NC 54 and NC 55 articles, that you've pretty much got the idea on how it works. I just made a few edits on the infoboxes, which are no real biggies; they are just uniform proceedure stuff that we've picked up from other route WikiProjects. Right now, to get you up to speed on what's going on, we're having a so-called "naming convention" on the talk page of WP:NCSH about what the title of the NC Highway articles should be called. Right now we're using the "North Carolina State Highway x" format (where x is the route number). A member named User:SPUI requested that we change this format to "NC x"... something that I believed was too vague. So, we've been trying to compromise and so far we've come up with a "North Carolina Highway x" format to prevent something called a neologism that I just recently found the defintion to. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you can comment on that debate... and if you need anything, you can usually find it on the project page or just message us. --TinMan 22:17, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for support
editThanks a lot for your support in the Guardians article. I reread the article and it sounds a lot better than before. Your work is very much appreciated and the wording is excellent. When I first read the Guardians article i was truly shocked to see such blatant racist statements about the Palestinians and others. Everyone has his biases but any objective person could see the explicit false and innacurate statements so i was outraged at how such an article could have been left unnnoticed (I wonder for how long though?). Anyway, good luck with other articles too.--Doge120 02:52, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Also
editNimur, PLEASE also check the Etienne Saqr article and the Lebanese Renewal Party article, also, not a surprise, written by the Guardians themselves. Also if you know some "expert" on the Lebanese civil war can he please check the facts on these articles, some stuff is pure propaganda. Thanks--Doge120 05:50, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedians who are rocket scientists
editHey there. You probably didn't notice this, but we just changed all the subcategories of category:Wikipedians by profession to "Wikipedian Xes". I'm wondering if you'd be willing to alter your user boxes to the new category:Wikipedian rocket scientists so that I can avoid having to put this on Wikipedia:Categories for discussion for a week or more. If so, thanks!--Mike Selinker 14:27, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

NC 54
editI believe your statement that NC 54's eastern terminus is near the capitol. I've seen maps and sources that say it ends at I-440 and others that say it ends near McDowell Street or other near the capitol. Can you find the exact terminus intersection in Raleigh? One of my most trusted maps has it ending at the intersection of Hillsborough and Salisbury streets. --TinMan 19:37, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

North Carolina Highways Naming Convention
editThis has finally come to an end. All we need now from the WP:NCSH project members is a vote on which convention we should use at the National State Route Naming Convention Poll. If you would, please go to Wikipedia:State route naming conventions poll#North Carolina and cast your vote. This should be the last time we should ever have to do this. Supermajority will decide what we should do. --TinMan 17:50, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Wikiproject North Carolina
editIn an effort to expand this project, I've requested a bot tag most of the articles under the Category:North Carolina. If you could, please look over this list User:Betacommand/North Carolina and remove any that should not get tagged with the Wikiproject North Carolina Template. Thanks Morphh 01:18, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks - After reviewing I found way to many that should not be linked. I've asked him to rerun it without Category:U.S. Highways in North Carolina & Category:Interstate Highways in North Carolina - This is spiderwebbing way to many articles. Also should remove the sub-sub Category:Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Too may Cats of Cats. Better to figure it out now though before we tag. I've taken a steb back and working on User:Betacommand/rollback and selecting Categories for removal from the tagging. I've also made some changes to the Categories that were causing such a prolem with liking unrelated articles. Morphh 15:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Your RfA
editHi Nimur. I am just writing to let you know that I have closed your RfA as your comment appeared to suggest that you had conceded defeat. It is good to see that you are resolved to carry out the improvements suggested by those who commented and stand again in the future. Many candidates disappear after a failed RfA, it is unfortunately the case that many people fail to realise that their is another person behind each username and go over the top with the criticism. Anyway, I am sure you will be successful next time with a bit more experience behind you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. Yours, Rje 03:17, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Fire
editWhat is the picture of in your userpage? Is it a chip pan? --Shanedidona 04:28, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- It is a chip pan fire, (or as I would say, a grease fire). That's a British-English term for fire in a deep-frying pot. Clearly this is a lab experiment. I can't take credit for it, I found it at the article... Nimur 04:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- "Laboratory simulation of a chip-pan fire: a steel beaker containing wax is heated over a Bunsen burner until it catches fire. A small amount of water is then poured into the beaker. The water sinks to the bottom and vaporises instantly, ejecting a plume of burning liquid wax into the air."
Mysoline and pigs
editWould you mind putting in a source for that? I saw something online about Mysoline being used in pigs, but you seem to know more about where to get these things.--Rmky87 03:05, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- In which article? I seem to recall adding that line to several articles after I made the savaging article. I believe the source is cited in that page, it is found here at The Pig Site. This page about veterinary medicine suggests that mysoline is also used to treat nervous disorders in dogs. Nimur 08:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- I referenced those at Mysoline; lemme know if there's anywhere else that needs it. Nimur 09:24, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your good efforts to revert vandalism in the Thomas Edison article. I note that in your revision as of 23:10, 22 March 2007 , you just noted RVV without specifying what version you reverted to. The version you reverted to was lacking some sentences from the first paragraph as well as the section on his marriages. To make it easier to separate good edits from vandalism (the good edits seem to be less than 1/10 of the total edits each day), could you please note what version you are reverting to? (Like "Revert to last version by Jones"). Sometimes editors revert too far back and lose a substantive edit, and sometimes they do not revert far enough and leave in a vandal edit, or sometimes good material simply disappears. Thanks again. Edison 15:21, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, sorry. I get a bit trigger-happy when RVVing. I'll be more careful! Nimur 16:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Battle of the Falklands
editI have restored it as per the above discussion. (It has been removed from the Coriolis effect article. I think it is useful, even if it is misplaced. If there is no consensus, we can export it to a new self-contained article. Feel free to contact me via talk-page if there's any change. Nimur 09:17, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
I doubt that Coriolis effect would have been considered in a WW1 FCS as they existed. Even sub minute of angle errors, and I doubt that Naval Guns of that period were that good, would be a larger error than 50 yards at 18,000 yards. Perhaps that section could be moved to and article about fire control problems because it would be a problem with ICBM's and other long range missles. The British had FCS problems in this battle that would arise in Jutland to more telling effect and their ammo left much to be desired. This section in Battle of the Falklands is horrible hear say and urban myth and does Wikipedia's reputation no good whatsoever. I am going to remove it in 48 hours. If you have any interest in the section please move it to an article that can use it. Tirronan 15:05, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Work for idle hands :-)
editHi, pleased to see that you liked my offer of alternative employment...
How to start ... well you can read Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Assessment or try my shorter guide.
- 1. Find your old/favourite school
- Find a nearby school that is a stub
- Copy in the schools tag (there is one on the link above ... or one on say Derby School.
- Mark it as stub (cos it is)
- Decide how important it is. Low is low. Mid has some alumni or claim to fame. High has international note. Top if the queen went there and was expelled.
- Add some helpful comments to the talk page of said school. e.g. "more refs and pics, but good work."
- Add a comment to the link above to say you have assessed a school.
- Go back to 1 (and try a "start" article this time?) until you goto 9
- 9. Decide if you could do more .... if so add your name to the end of the list as an assessor..... welcome!
I or some other busy body will (in time) either give you some helpful feedback or a barnstar Victuallers 23:27, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'd also like to welcome you to our little group. I'm glad you've been so enthusiastic and I hope you don't take this critisism badly. I'm glad your here so please keep assessing, just be sure to review some of the existing assessments before continuing and remember that the ratings from GA to FA cannot be given arbitrarily (Specifically GA and FA must be peer reviewed and in practice all the active assessors vote to upgrade articles from GA to A). I'm sorry if I seem a bit bitey it's just early here so don't take it personally. Once again, good to have you with us. Adam McCormick 07:48, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- No problem! Criticism forces me to work to a higher standard : ) Let me know how I can help, and I'll work on assessment when time permits. Nimur 07:50, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- So lets see ... have a go at a stub or an easier school. Your school has been rated as a "start" .... what about the neighbouring schools? Victuallers 08:28, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Enjoy assessing! Welcome to the assessment team. Camaron1 | Chris 13:08, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Manually transcluding the full text of the discussion from Genisock's talk page
Hello Genisock2. I noticed the copyright status of the image, Image:Honoda.jpg, is in doubt. I am not the uploader, nor the author of this work, but I am a contributor at the main article involved. It appears that this image falls under the fair use clause because it is a Japanese work older than 50 years. However, it also appears that the original uploader found this with a Google Images search; for unrelated reasons, the uploader's account has been blocked. Before this image is deleted, please let me know if the fair-use tag is appropriate. The article does need an image, but we need to make sure it is a legitimate, legal one. Nimur 22:31, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- How certian can we be as to who took the image?Genisock2
- Well, as far as certainty of the image, it is difficult to know specifically. This page hosts this image which I believe to be the source of this digital version on Wikipedia. However, Lt. Onoda was "in hiding" from 1945 until 1974 (as a Japanese guerrilla in the Philippines), so it is very unlikely that this image was taken later than 1945; this would classify it older than 50 years and hence place it in our public domain/fair use category for Japanese images older than 50 years by anonymous authors. I can't verify the original source any better than that. Nimur 00:31, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- It is extremely unlikely that the suspected source is the official copyright holder; they are merely hosting a copy of that image which appears elsewhere on the web. Nimur 00:39, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- well it is as a long officer. The image licsenceing would appear to be correct in that case.Geni 01:45, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Highlight To Copy, Middle Click To Paste On WinXP
editIs there a utility that I can install on WinXP that will enable copying by highlighting and middle-clicking to paste? --Seans Potato Business 17:36, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- You're looking for Xmouse copy and paste; that may help direct your web searches. I know that Microsoft's tweakui tool enables some xmouse functionality but I do not think it includes copy/paste features. Nimur 18:16, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- This developer has released a tool to do exactly what you seek. I have never tried it; use at your own risk. Nimur 18:18, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, it works. It includes the annoying feature of focus follows mouse and you have to click on the bar at the top of the window in order to bring it to the top, though. I'll see if I can find a way to activate only the highlight-copy/paste thing. Oh, and thanks!! --Seans Potato Business 10:11, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hooray! Hopefully it has a configuration utility or at least documentation... I've found that mouse-focus is a useful tool "sometimes," but it takes a few days of getting used to. It also seems to adversely affect my abilitity to select sub-windows in Matlab, so I have to disable it. (This is probably a bug in Matlab, but might be in the mouse-focus). Signature on ref desk (II)
editHi Nimur,
My crawling-on-the-floor apologies for misusing your signature. I was adding a comment to the figure caption, since I thought the "artist impression" label misrepresented it, and I didn't want it to look like my added text was put there by the same author as the original caption. At first I couldn't even make a line break (I figured that out later), and it all looked like a single caption. It struck me that I could simply add that author's signature, to clarify that there was a break, and where. That was in itself a marginal idea at best, but what was really bad was that I was careless when checking who that original author was. I somehow thought it was you, but it was actually (and quite obviously – he even made an arrow toward the figure!) SteveBaker. Sorry! --mglg(talk) 21:44, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- No problem! Thanks for the explanation. I was worried that it might be vandalism, since it occurred twice in rapid succession (from two different and unrelated editors / reasons), but it appears that both instances were honest mistakes. Thanks for clearing it up to both mglg and Reuben! Nimur 23:33, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
