Welcome
editHello, welcome to Wikipedia. I see you're already off to a start doing brass band stuff, which something we're got horribly thin coverage off, and something I've failed to get a colliery-band-playing friend of mine to fix. I do hope you stay around and make things a bit more substancial.
You might find these links helpful in editing pages or creating new ones: How to edit a page, Tutorial, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should probably read our policies at some point too.
But don't feel you have to read every policy document before you do anything. Dive in, be bold in editing, and if you do anything wrong, someone will be quick to correct it and let you know (hopefully, politely!)
You can help improve the articles listed below! This list updates frequently, so check back here for more tasks to try. (See Wikipedia:Maintenance or the Task Center for further information.)
Help counter systemic bias by creating new articles on important women.
Help improve popular pages, especially those of low quality.
If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!
You may have already noticed that you can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too, as I've done below. This is mostly useful, and is considered good wikiquette, on talk pages. But be aware that the actual wikipedia articles should never be signed - they belong to the community, rather than the individual who created them.
Again, welcome! -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 15:12, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- That didn't take you long to notice! For the moment I've just tweaked a couple of minor things and spolling mistooks, until I get used to it/into the swing of things. -Nigel
- I made some trivial edit to brass band a while ago, and (like almost everyone) I have the Add pages you edit to your watchlist option in my preferences set, so I see a list of changes made recently to things I might (theoretically) care about. Oh, I should mention: the usual convention (although by no means mandatory) is to keep a given conversation (like this one) on one page (I can see updates because this page is on my watchlist!). And yeah, everyone starts just by fixing a typo or adding a one-line addition. It's quitting that's the hard thing to do :) -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 15:36, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Sorry - I just couldn't see a "reply" button and not realising that you'd see anything I typed here coupled with the comment to ask you on your User page led me to think that was the thing to do. I hope this is better. Now let me try signing this message and seeing what happens... NigelHorne
- It's not a problem. wiki makes editing articles easy, but it's a third-rate chat system, however we structure things. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 15:56, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Notability of Ian robson
editA tag has been placed on Ian robson, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Gimme danger 12:35, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Suga brown
editThe article Suga brown has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.
Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki (talk) 15:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Username
editHi, your username is against the username policy. You should change your user name, see WP:RENAME for details on how to do this. Failure to address this issue may mean that your account is blocked, leaving unblocked for now to allow you to request the change of name. Mjroots (talk) 16:17, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oops! It looks like you've been around since 2004, which means that you have grandfather rights on this username, as the policy was either introduced or changed after you created the account. In which case, there is no need to change you username, unless you wish to do so. My apologies. Mjroots (talk) 17:04, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
Wootton
editThanks for your recent edit. (If you look at the Talk page for Wootton, you'll see that I proposed similar changes some time ago. I usually make the change if I get no response after a week or so, but this time I simply forgot. So thanks again!)
On the Wootton talk page, you may see that I'm dubious about the claim that Digges invented the telescope. If you have any information on this, I'd be glad if you would amend the sentence about the telescope! Eebkent (talk) 20:23, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Solid white (chicken plumage)
editI sincerely appreciate your effort fixing grammar and spelling mistakes in my article --Cacucho (talk) 23:35, 3 November 2012 (UTC) Might you help me in a similar way with Delayed feathering in chickens and/or Hen feathering in cocks? Yours, Cacucho (talk) 23:43, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Licentiate Diploma in Brass Band Adjudication
editThe article Licentiate Diploma in Brass Band Adjudication has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you. This proposed deletion was started by User:Piotrus
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
