Missing encyclopedia articles name list
editI encountered some of your edits on name pages. I work on interwiki links and thought you may be interested in helping in some of the name pages needed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/de, in the name section. I realize you don't speak German, but perhaps you can find information from your own sources that would be relevant. Rigadoun (talk) 19:12, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi Nomenphile. What the Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/de is, is a list of articles on the German Wikipedia which have several interlanguage links but not one to English. Because they appear in the other wikipedias, they are considered noteworthy articles that should have articles here, and thus people like me go through the lists and try to create (or facilitation creation of) such corresponding articles. For whatever reason, some of the other Wikipedias have better coverage of names, so on the German page there is a list of 20 articles to be added here. I usually suggest making the article about the name specifically, instead of a more general disambiguation page that has some of that information. (For example, look at how David has both David (disambiguation) and David (name)). At the least, though, it should have some information on the name, like meaning, origin, popularity, or name days. You could help by looking at the names on the list, and adding such information, especially as it pertains to the English-speaking world. Anyway, basically I was asking if there were things you could add to any of these pages (or help set up a new page). Rigadoun (talk) 18:54, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Article of the month – List of valkyrie names in Norse mythology
In Norse mythology, a valkyrie is one of a host of female figures who choose which warriors will win or die in battle. The valkyries bring their chosen who have died bravely in battle to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin, where the deceased warriors become einherjar. There, when the einherjar are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries also appear as lovers of heroes and other mortals, where they are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens, and sometimes connected to swans. Article of the month – Cailleach
In Irish and Scottish mythology, the Cailleach (Irish pronunciation: [ˈkalʲəx], Irish plural [cailleacha] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help) [ˈkalʲəxə], Scottish Gaelic plural [cailleachan] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help) /kaʎəxən/), also known as the Cailleach Bheur, is a divine hag, a creatrix, and possibly an ancestral deity or deified ancestor. The word simply means 'old woman' in modern Scottish Gaelic, and has been applied to numerous mythological figures in Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man. (More...) |
