WP:Albums

edit

Hi, I've noticed your work on the WP:Albums and that's great! I would just like to let you know that there is a template for the star rating in the infoboxes. You are encouraged to use Template:Stars. For example,      , which creates the proper alt-text. The alt-test for He Touched Me is incorrect (hover your mouse over the rating). If you have any questions, let me know (or rather someone else as I am on vacation ;-)). Keep up the good work! :)

Hi Gflores, and thanks a lot for the tips. Also thanks a lot for welcoming me into the wikipedia community :) and I was wondering, are there any good external programs to help me edit wikipedia? Or do I have to stick to the browser interface.
Sorry, I have not replied in a while; I've been on vacation. Wikipedia:Tools is a good place to look. View the text-editor and browser support in there. Also, User Scripts are available here. If you're looking for a specific function and can't find it, let me know, it probably exists but may be difficult to find within the seemingly interminable Wikipedia links. Additionally, a browser with tabbing functionality, such as Firefox is recommended. Lastly, you may be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/List of notable albums. Happy editing. :) P.S., be sure to sign your comments with ~~~~. Bye. Gflores Talk 21:10, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Need help?

edit

Hi. Was going to ask if you needed any assistance or had any questions just before you left IRC, so I just thought I'd ask now. If there's anything you feel unsure about, or need help/advice or anything, don't hesitate to ask at my talkpage, or at some of the wikipedia IRC channels.

Anyway, the reason for why the article was nominated for deletion, was because it had little or no content. Wikipedia has a set of policies that is to guide editors in setting the minimum standards required for an article/subject to be noteworthy, in this case the one found at WP:MUSIC. I've opposed the deletion as you are rather new here, and so has another editor. The article should be more or less safe if you expand it somewhat, and if possible also read through WP:ALBUM for other guidelines regarding articles on albums. Have a nice day! Bjelleklang - talk 16:34, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the help Bjelleklang, I was just confused about why my article was nominated for deletion 30 seconds into it's creation. I'll read over WP:ALBUM now, and hopefully my article will expand! Nooby god 16:38, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I had uploaded the image in July 2005. At that point I was relatively new to Wikipedia and had downloaded the pics from Official Website of Bagalkot District. I will be udpating the source link as to from where I had downloaded that Image... Images from that website can be used since they are owned by the Government of India.

Thanks a bunch for your update and heads up. --Aravind Parvatikar 05:49, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

This image was created by me from images downloaded from the JAXA website. Here is what they say about using their images:

"Copyright Concerning the use of JAXA texts, drawings, imagery, sounds, pictures, and other materials, the copyright (or the intellectual property right) of all of the texts, drawings, imagery, sounds, pictures and other materials used in the Website belongs to JAXA unless specified otherwise.

JAXA permits the use of JAXA texts, drawings, imagery, sounds, pictures and other materials if the purpose of the use is approved as for education, public relations, or information providing, or if the use is within the scope of relevant laws. In such cases, insertion of credits* is required for used texts, drawings, imagery, sounds, pictures and other materials.

  • Examples of credits

Provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) Source: Website of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)

  • If space is limited

Courtesy of JAXA ©JAXA or "Copyright of JAXA"

The consent of a certain individual is required for the use of some of imagery or pictures belonging to JAXA, if the individual can be identified by the imagery, sounds or pictures, for example photos of an astronaut, in order to protect the right of that person.

Concerning the use of JAXA texts, drawings, imagery, sounds, pictures and other materials, please be aware that JAXA does not support any specific activities of individuals, groups or organizations.

JAXA texts, drawings, imagery, sounds, pictures and other materials can be used for commercial purpose with prior approval of JAXA. Please contact us for more information."

URL: http://www.jaxa.jp/policy_e.html

So if I use the credit as described above, is that enough to establish the copyright status and copyright holder? Even though I created the image, I presume I am not the copyright holder because I merely combined images created by JAXA - correct?

Thanks, Gedanken

I think so, I strongly recomend finding the correct image tag at WP:ICT and tag the image.

Template:Stars

edit

Stars was deleted (an old version) because it was a meta template and needlessly wasted system resources. I am not sure of the status now... but, at least my view is that we can just use the "Image:X out of 5.png|X out of 5 stars" But, I think they fixed the template so it's not a meta template? I'm not sure. gren グレン ? 16:21, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image:Liza-weil-gg100.jpg listed for deletion

edit

Thank you for pointing out that this image didn't link to anything; it's a redundant image because I changed the file name to Liza_Weil.jpg for use with the Liza Weil article, because the filename was more concise in that matter. I was uploading this early in my Wikipedia'ing so I expected to make a few mistakes, thus I have no objections to the deletion of Liza-weil-gg100.jpg - Mrschimpf 00:45, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ref converter RFC

edit

Hello there, I'd just like to make you aware that Lulu has filed an RfC against me and "other users of Ref converter". Since you are explicitly named in the RFC I think it is safe to assume that you are one of the people named in the "other users of Ref converter" bit, so you may want to get involved. Just a heads-up, Cyde Weys 18:26, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for informing me about this RFC

album infobox conversions

edit

Hey, I noticed you were once active at converting old infoboxes. Well, I've found a bunch that need converting, as I noted here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums/Needs infobox conversion. Cheers, Alcuin 03:55, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use disputed for Image:Beats-Rhymes-and-Life-Cover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Beats-Rhymes-and-Life-Cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Pain-in-My-Heart-Cover.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Pain-in-My-Heart-Cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 15:13, 12 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

It is actually an alternative cover of Pain in My Heart. No album covers are actually significant, so your claim is silly. Regards.--GoPTCN 15:22, 12 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Pain-in-My-Heart-Cover.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Pain-in-My-Heart-Cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:07, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
