NorthYorkshire-Geo-Stubs

I've put back several of these geo-stubs in the areas that were administered as part of Yorkshire until 1974. They do exist administratively in Lancashire at present, but historically are still part of the traditional county of Yorkshire (or what was West Riding to be precise). These counties were never officially abolished and only changed for Govt administrative purposes. So as the county of Rutland was 'officially' reintroduced and Cleveland and Avon, for example, were officially abolished. But Rutland always existed, even if it was seen in Leicestershire on maps and Somerset was still Avon, etc. Similarly the new unitary authority areas are still within the traditonal counties or those seen after 1974, and are only identified on maps as seperate administrative areas and not counties - and nobody would take them as being not from the respective counties. Many people, especially those that can remember the early 1970s, still refer to themselves as being from Yorkshire, living in Yorkshire and not from Lancashire. Even the local authority Pendle puts white roses (with red) into the local road signs and emblems in the area that was in Yorkshire.

The only problem I have is naming the area, towns and villages as part of the 'North Yorkshire' stub as opposed to just 'Yorkshire' - but a geo-stub for this does not exist, and they were never part of 'North Yorkshire' anyway, but that is the best that is available at present.

Having said that, with the stub they do appear on the Yorkshire links, which has a tradional map etc etc.

I removed the stubs as they are for the present day counties and administrations not the historical administrations. The categorey tree should have what they are today not what they were pre 1974. This makes things difficult to keep track of amongst all of the places in the present day Yorkshire administration. The information on historic administrations belongs in the text of the articles not in the categories. I propose removing them again. Keith D 15:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Please understand that Wikipedia works by consensus and the treatement of British cities, towns and villages that have suffered one or more changes in counties has - inevitably - been the subject of much debate and discussion and has been decided. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
