Farrington Gurney football club
editI removed all the info that you added to Farrington Gurney as it was just too much information on a single topic. It looks like you really should be creating a separate article for the club, then link to that from the village article. Let me know if you need any help creating an article. --Simple Bob (talk) 16:50, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Need help?
editYou'll probably have seen by now that I deleted nearly all of your Farrington Gurney FC article. This is because it was nearly all copy/pasted from the club's website. This isn't allowed on Wikipedia - see WP:COPYVIO for more information. You might also want to come over to Wikipedia:WikiProject Somerset to see what we are doing in your home county. While there you can ask for help and find lots of people willing to give it. --Simple Bob (talk) 22:27, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Reuse of your material on wikipedia
editHi, I spotted your message on User talk:Simple Bob & wondered if I could help. As explained at Wikipedia:Copyright problems#Copyright owners who submitted their own work to Wikipedia you need to licence the work on the site where it is originally published or email a permission. Wikipedia gets accused of copyright infringement a lot and therefore you need to ensure it is transparent to everyone that you are happy for the work to be reused - otherwise others will come along & delete it - thinking they are protecting your rights.— Rod talk 23:08, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia can be confusing when you first start. The link above tells you how to put the appropriate licence on the site about the club which you have written or where to send the email to but in the meantime if you explain on the talk page then it may stop people removing your material initially. The text you contributed is still in the article history so it would be easy to copy & paste it back into the article. This happens because we have no way of knowing that it is the same person who wrote the original material who pasted it into wikipedia. Once you have done this & put the content back in it will still need putting into wikipedia format but we can help you with that. If you have any questions just ask (but I'm going to bed soon - so it may be tomorrow before you get answer.— Rod talk 23:32, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
- If you agree to the reuse copy the notice at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries and email it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org from an email address connected with the site the material is on.— Rod talk 09:36, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- You may want to look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Clubs for an idea of what to include & Wikipedia:WikiProject Football to communicate with others who write articles about football clubs (which I usually don't).— Rod talk 10:16, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hopefully all the licence issues will be sorted - the perceived problem now seems to be with Notability rules.— Rod talk 15:33, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- As you said yourself "a tiny village team that no-one has ever heard of!" therefore the argument in the notability rules of wikipedia it that it is not notable (or well known) enough to have an article & that is why another editor has proposed deleting it. Wikipedia is about things, people, places etc which people want to find out more about & therefore might look up. Don't get disheartened about wikipedia processes, if you agree FG FC shouldn't have an article fine let it go but I'm sure you could contribute to other articles eg about the league they play in or other Somerset articles. Hope this makes sense.— Rod talk 16:34, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- What is the other team (of similar status) which has an article? To persuade people that the team is notable enough I think you need to edit the article including reports in papers or external web sites (apart from your own) as references to show that the team has been discussed/talked about/written about by others. It would also be useful to make your argument on the article's talk page.
- Yes please edit away.— Rod talk 21:41, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

The article Farrington Gurney F.C. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Never played at a notable level of football
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:50, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- I have added a note on the articles talk page explaining about the copyright position - but to stop it being deleted it will need to show how the club meets WP:Notability rules, demonstrating the long history of the club and how it has played at senior levels.— Rod talk 09:38, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Please note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and does not exist to help small clubs promote themselves or make themselves well-known. In light of your comments, however, I will change the deletion request to one which is thrown open to all editors to express their views on whether or not the article should be kept -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 14:16, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
