edit

You might want to have a chat with one of your students about proper editing of Wikipedia. See User talk:Mleahy64. The edit they made to Greek hero cult was not appropriate, and the edits they made to Tom Brady were simply unacceptable. Their responses on their talk page are also inappropriate. Regards, Tarl N. Later edit, if the above is confusing, see earlier version of talk page. The user deleted comments he had made previously. Tarl N. (discuss) 18:09, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Thanks for your message. I will follow up with them. Can you please provide specifics about the inappropriate language that was used, so that I can be detailed in my conversation? I tried to see but couldn't find it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nsusmann (talkcontribs) 17:16, 14 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

There were several actions by Mleahy64 which were problematic.
  • The one which caught our attention was this edit to Tom Brady. That article is a WP:BLP, biography of a living person, where we try to rigorously enforce accuracy standards to avoid Wikipedia being sued. That is a high-traffic article so changes are noticed immediately. The comment "his mother having an affair with one mister Mark Sanchez" stands out as particularly problematic.
  • This edit to Greek hero cult seems to have been their intended classwork, but was inappropriate. The comment "One scholar who they call Walter Pötscher" in particular caught attention as being inappropriate. At the time, I presumed it was simple vandalism, but instead it seems to have been deliberate un-encyclopedic tone.
  • That could have been corrected, but interaction at their talk page, here and here, did not lend itself to to further communication. The comments "I'm so glad im on your mind like that tar boy!" and "Maybe step it up and stop worrying about people trying to have some fun?" were not encouraging.
  • The final attempt to follow up resulted in this, with "Facts are subjective and your rules simply do not make me reconsider my actions", which suggested further interaction was not going to be fruitful.
