Thanks for uploading Image:Dean Razorback V.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated.   Welcome to Wikipedia. An article you recently created, Mr P G Skoyles, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new articles, so it will shortly be removed (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do and please read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Thank you. SMC89 12:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Mr P G Skoyles, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. SMC89 12:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Editing various Dean Guitars articles

edit

Hello! I noticed you reverted some of my edits I made to some guitar articles. For example, this edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dean_Cadillac&diff=next&oldid=145189642 I have to question. In this edit, you still did not verify your statements: Who says the Cadillac is more famous as ML (and who says the ML is famous?)?, also, who says it has better tone etc than Les Paul? You can't use Dean Guitars official website to verify this, as it is very bias (why wouldn't they say good things about their guitars?). As it read after your edit, it seemed to be your personal opinion, which is original thought, and does not belong in a Wikipedia article. It didn't either represent a neutral point of view (Please see WP:NPOV. To read about what sources are reliable, please see WP:RS, to read about what sources are verifiable, see WP:V. And, you can't just link to the website, you have to link to the specific page containing the source, it is very time consuming to find the source on the page your self.

If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to ask me. Grinder0-0 17:10, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dean guitars

edit

Hello and thanks for your recent activity to improve Dean guitar articles. I wanted to remind you that generally when editors makes changes to the articles, they are doing so in good faith and per Wikipedia policies. For example, Wikipedia requires articles to be sourced with independent, reliable sources - see Wikipedia:Verifiability. While the Dean web site is a good source for basic facts, if you are going to make claims about certain guitarists being "famous users" or similar, you need to be able to back that up with an independent source. An example would be a magazine article that says that guitarist is notable for playing Deans. So if someone adds a template to the section requesting sources, that is meant as a request for you to do so. If you can't, the section should be removed.

Also, are you the same user as KingPie01? I only ask because you two are making basically the same edits. If so, I recommend you pick one account and stick to it.

Any questions, just ask! --Spike Wilbury talk 20:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I am looking for some free images of Dean guitars right now. It might be a slow process, but I think we can find some. It might also be possible to email Dean and ask them to release some images under a license we can use. There is some information on how to do that at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. On the question of notable users - we have discussed this a lot in the Guitarist WikiProject. Basically the manufacturer is not a good source of information because they are paying the guitarists to appear as endorsers; therefore there is a conflict of interest. To call a guitarist a notable or famous player of an instrument is to assert that they make special use of that instrument above other guitarists. So, we need some source to back that up. For an example of how we have done this in the past, see List of Telecaster players. We basically found a source for every guitarist on that list that said, "Yes this guy is a famous Telecaster player." --Spike Wilbury talk 20:46, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyrighted images

edit

You need to stop uploading copyrighted images to the Dean guitar articles. Dean owns the copyright on those and they cannot be used in the articles. --Spike Wilbury talk 22:07, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Really? Did you follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission? If so, they need to have released them under an appropriate license and you need to forward their email to the address listed on that page under the "When Permission is Received" heading. If they simply said, "Yes you can use them on Wikipedia" that is not a valid permission. --Spike Wilbury talk 22:17, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image deletions

edit

I have gone ahead and deleted all of the images that you "stole" from Dean's website. You simply cannot upload images you found on the web. We only accept content that is freely licensed (and one of the easiest way to do that is to produce content ourselves and license it under a free license). Only in certain cases do we allow non-free content. Anyway, if you have any questions about the deletions, or need help understanding wikipedia's image use policy, please feel free to ask. I'd be glad to help. Thanks.-Andrew c [talk] 00:46, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
