MEastman Welcome
Thanks you for your welcome. Since you ask, can you show me how to add a photo image to an article? Everything I see tells me how to upload, but not how to place it.MEastman (talk) 21:35, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Exactly what I needed - Thank you! MEastman (talk) 23:32, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Can you do me a favor and check out the gay student services v. Texas A&M page, and tell me if you can see the photos I uploaded? I see them when I log in, but others don't. I have 'saved' and yet, when I go to a different computer, I don't see it, but on the one I made the update, I do, as if it were saved correctly. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? MEastman (talk) 00:08, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- I see two pictures on the page. I assume you uploaded two pictures.
- I don't know this as concrete fact. Sometimes Wikipedia delays what is shown for new edits for a couple of hours for people without accounts. This is a way to block out vandalism. Imagine if someone uploaded an inappropriate picture on the George W. Bush page, a heavily trafficked page. Even if it was reverted quickly, with the hundreds of people who view the page every minute, you would have some very angry people. You should ask friends if they can see the pictures now. They should be up. Thanks for your hard work. keep it up. Gig em! Oldag07 (talk) 03:33, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Stan9999
I added additional citations to the University of Texas at Dallas article. It was noted as not having enough. I hope that helps.
Thanks
- Stan, you are doing a great job. And I appreciate all of the contributions you are doing. It isn't so much the number of citations that I am worried about. It is the fact that most of them are from http://www.utdallas.edu/ . Several university featured articles such as Texas Tech University, or Texas A&M University, are good examples of a healthier mix of outside sources. Still, the material coming in is really good, and keep it up. Oldag07 (talk) 04:29, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.
The problem I found with an outside direct link to US News rankings is that one would need to purchase their Premium Online Edition to see all schools in the ranking list. That is why I chose the indirect links to utdallas.edu. Example: [1]
I have just added direct links to BusinessWeek where the rankings are available.
Oldag07, Your changes are great, thanks! It's good to have an Aggie help a UT page.:) My side of the family is all UT Austin, my wife's side are all A&M folks. My oldest son has advanced degrees from UT Austin but my youngest son is attending UTD. He loves it there.
- I am a grad student at UTD. I was just on campus a minute ago. I like it a lot. It is far more relaxed in the fall then or respective football schools. Still, once an Aggie. . . . Keep up the good work. Oldag07 (talk) 21:00, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- BTW, Be sure to sign your comments with ~~~~ I used a special code so you could see those tildes, but if you just enter them in normally, wikipedia will sign your comments for you. Like this: Oldag07 (talk) 21:02, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Your changes and additions were great! The UTD page is starting to look much more professional then just a few days ago. Stan9999 (talk) 03:03, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Not much activity on the UTD discussion page? Stan9999 (talk) 12:55, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Yea, I guess that is how things go in an all volunteer encyclopedia. Remember, on wikipedia, there is no deadline. I know it is frustrating at times. Texas A&M page hasn't had any real discussion since January. I honestly am waiting until the user Karanacs reviews our page. She is well respected in the wikipedia community, and while working on the TAMU page, she was the glue of the four editors hammering that page. She should give some very helpful hints before moving on.
Do feel free to work on other pages of interest for you. You probably will find a bigger group of wikipedians on your alma meter's page. Be sure to check out the watch list tool. It helps me keep track of the many pages I have worked on. That is how I found out you were working on the UTD page. I must tell you in advance, this summer (Early June to mid August) I am going to have limited to no access to the internet. As such I probably am going to take a pretty long wikibreak soon. I wish I could be more of help. Thanks again for your hard work, and I am looking forward to see what we can accomplish in the next few weeks. Oldag07 (talk) 00:54, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- I will probably just work on the UTD page for now. I added some more alumni. That list is looking better now.Stan9999 (talk) 02:43, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Can anything be done about these drive-by folks trying to put the SAT scores back at the top?

- One of the key principles of wikipedia is to assume good faith. These people are trying to do their best. We just just try to inform them of why we want the SAT scores elsewhere. I am going to put a comment on the top of the page asking people to discuss adding SAT scores on the talk page. Thanks again for your hardwork, and dedication to this page. File:SHouston 2.jpg
Hi Oldag, I hope you are enjoying your wikibreak! I discovered that we apparently connect in lots of places on WP, as I'm using an image you uploaded, File:SHouston 2.jpg, in Convention of 1833. I nominated the article for FAC, and there was confusion over what the appropriate license should be for that image. At user:Jappalang's suggestion, I started a thread at the commons village pump [2]. I'm not sure if you're breaking your wikibreak or not, so if you don't see this before I'll replace the link with a permanent link once there's been any dicussion. Thanks so much for your image work, in addition to everything else you do! Karanacs (talk) 16:19, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Karanacs! It isn't so much wikipedia that I am trying to avoid, but rather the internet itself. Well, I can't completely avoid the internet, and helping a friend certainly is an exception I can make for this internet/wikibreak. I can definitely solve the image problem. It is always a joy to work with you, and thank you for all if your work. I hope everything is going well for you, and best of luck. Oldag07 (talk) 19:43, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the image fix, and I'm sorry to be the one to draw you back in.... better run quick before strongarm you into staying for good!! Everything's going well for me, although I'm busy busy with a one-year-old to chase after (I had forgotten how fast they move). Enjoy your summer! Karanacs (talk) 23:38, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Revision to Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri articles
I noticed that you have revised either Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri or Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire.
I intend to revise those articles following the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines. There are more details on the discussion pages of those articles. I'd be interested in any comments you have. It would be best if your comments were on the discussion pages of the two articles.
Thank you.

- I was on campus Sunday to visit my kid and there was still some construction blocking the linear pools so I couldn't get a picture. I did get one of the Science Learning Center (SLC) but it wasn't very good. I went ahead and put it in the article under "Building plans". Hey there,
You seem to be using Avatar (Hinduism) in a lot of cases where Incarnation (the next item on the Avatar disambiguation page) would likely be more appropriate; just a head's up. 24.148.0.83 (talk) 05:28, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hello
- All Avatar are not Avatar (Hinduism) for example Clash of the Titans (2010 film) or Dormammu.
- Please, be more cautious when you are doing such changes.
- --Crazy runner (talk) 05:31, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- ps: 24.148.0.83 is speeder than me.
- LOL :) But yeah, only Hinduism-related subjects should be using that link. 24.148.0.83 (talk) 05:40, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi. Just so you know, when making an intentional link to a disambiguation page, we generally do use the "(disambiguation)" redirect. That isolates intentional links from unintentional ones. Please allow links to Avatar (disambiguation). 69.3.72.249 (talk) 05:28, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I've replied to your proposal on Talk:Dreamfall Chapters. Basically, my question is what Wikipedia policy sanctions deletion of articles on games, which were announced but currently not in production? Also, the deletion proposal suggests improving the article as means to prevent deletion but with your argumentation, there is not much room for improvement. --Koveras ☭ 06:15, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
I would say WP:FUTURE would stick out the policy supporting the deletion. I would have put on a merge template, but the information on the Dreamfall: The Longest Journey page seems adequate at the moment. One must note that StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, does not have a page, and that game is definitely under production. Oldag07 (talk) 22:41, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- AFAIK HotS is an expansion pack, while DC is a standalone game. The weight category is different. :) My main problem with your reasoning is that I don't think that the current section in the Dreamfall article is adequate, compared to the DC article, at the moment. --Koveras ☭ 07:33, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't done a whole long of research with video games, however for movie sequels show strong precedence for what i am proposing. The future films Star Trek XII and The Dark Knight Rises are good examples of this.
- Moreover, the majority of Dreamfall chapters is based off that RT's blog. While I agree that RT's blog is an exception to the rule against blogs, the article's reliance on it make it flirt with Wikipedia:ONESOURCE. Both Star Trek XII and The Dark Knight Rises have far more sources discussing rumors about what will happen in these films. Both films have release dates. However, Dreamfall Chapters isn't even under production. As such, while RT discusses in his blog (which is down) what he would like in the game, what discussed in the blog, and hence the article is speculative at best. Note I just played though Dreamfall for the third time a few days ago. Love the game. I just don't think it should have a page yet. Oldag07 (talk) 00:33, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Mass Effect cats
I'm going to have to disagree with your adding sorts to the Mass Effect category. The purpose of doing it with the Civ games is that there are many expansions and sub-games for each edition of Civ. Mass Effect doesn't have the same issue, so the sort keys are pointless. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 23:45, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not going to fight it if you feel strongly about it. I assume that the franchise will grow, so it might be necessary in the future. But either way is technically correct. Oldag07 (talk) 23:56, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, they've stated that the third will be the last of the series. And yes, either one is technically correct. Ship names
Thank you for your efforts to add italics to all those ship name-titled pages.
I would, however, have appreciated a bit more if you hadn't misused the DISPLAYTITLE
magic word quite so much, leaving cleaning up for others to do.
In the first place, disambiguation pages should not have their titles italicized if they include things that are not ships. (For instance, Andrea Doria (disambiguation) includes a person and a football club, neither of which are appropriate to italicize.)
When it is appropriate to italicize the title, there are several templates you can use that are more memorable and require less typing than DISPLAYTITLE
. For instance, if it is "Ship Name (disambiguation)" with no prefix, as with Admiral Ushakov (warship), you can use {{Italic title}}, which automatically adds italics only to the part that's not in brackets.
If there is not an appropriate template, and you have to use DISPLAYTITLE
, please bear in mind that it is not a template, but a magic word; among other things, this means that it uses a colon, not a pipe. For example, {{DISPLAYTITLE:Brazilian destroyer ''Paraná'' (D29)}}
, not {{DISPLAYTITLE|Brazilian destroyer ''Paraná'' (D29)}}
— Paul A (talk) 04:16, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
PS. I see that you did try to use {{Italic title prefixed}} on USC&GS Arago and it didn't work there. The situation is unlikely to come up again elsewhere, but you might be interested to know the reason: In HTML, the & character is used to mark the beginning of special code strings that display unusual characters, and so to avoid confusion there is also a special code string that is used to display the & character itself. One consequence is that {{Italic title prefixed}} sees "USC&GS" as a 10-character-long prefix (with & being a 5-character-long code instead of a single character).
— Paul A (talk) 05:13, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- I know I made several mistakes adding italics to the ship titles. I appreciate you helping me clean up the mess. I tried to minimize the use of the
DISPLAYTITLE
template to the "USC&GS" ships and the titles with the character "(". Several previous editors have used theDISPLAYTITLE
code on pages like the USS Enterprise. I guess I could clean those out. Thanks for your patience. Oldag07 (talk) 13:24, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited The 48 Laws of Power, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Endgame and Self-interest (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey I appreciate you're edits. I just want to let you know that we must be careful on what we put fair use images we put on.
