Tesla
editHi. I was very surprised when you had said that you will be calling Gimnazija and the Karlovac Archive. That's some dedication! If you are writing your own work I must say that sources on Tesla may often be scarce. Wikipedia is a poor source on many things and Tesla's article is a great example. Tesla's life is covered by too little primary sources and you'll often find "facts" stated on article page that really don't have basis in any sources. Secondary sources often repeat each other and don't give any footnotes or referenced to the claims they make. I've done some research on my own in the sphere I'm interested in Tesla and I found a bunch of that kind of facts stated on wikipedia which really can't be verified. Take for instance Tesla's birthplace. You'll find that sources are all over the place, some older sources even claim Montenegro, Serbia. Tesla's ethnicity is another example. If you need any help regarding Wiki policies I would be glad to help. You must understand that experienced Wiki editors know how to push their own opinion so you have to watch out. Even now when you had found sources that explicitly mention Martin Sekulic (even a secondary source that explicitly says Tesla is speaking of Martin Sekulic in his autobiography) an editor had decided to say "some sources say" by which giving more detailed sources less weight.141.138.20.5 (talk) 18:32, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
- It's a pleasure! Yes, I am writing my own work about Tesla. While writing about his education in Karlovac I just thought that I might got some background information in Wikipedia, only to start with something that then has to be verified. So I founded that Sekulić only had a page in the Deutsch version, so I decided to create its own page in English and Catalan (I uploaded his photo and signature). Note that I'm Catalan and that's my work's language. I said I will be calling the Gimnazija and the archives as I have been in contact with people from Gospić and Karlovac mainly by mail, and I have just bought some credit to call cheaper abroad. And in the line of what you say about Tesla's page in Wikipedia, you are right, it's just a mess... and Editors seems to be right as you say. Last but not least, what you say about his birthplace it might be incorrect in Wikipedia, but it's completely sure he was born in Smiljan, in the house next to the church where there's the Memorial today, the night from 9 to 10, but passed midnight, so in 10th July 1856. That's what his baptismal record say. About ethnicity, I can assure you, Tesla was Serbian born in Croatian land. In one telegram written by Tesla he says "I am equally proud of my Serbian origin and my Croatian fatherland". I am also in contact with William Terbo, his closest relative alive and with the Museum in Belgrade. I am planning to go there maybe next year, as all Tesla files are in their archive.
- I have A LOT of material and I need time to organize it all. I have also discovered some new facts in his childhood, for example the reason why he "skipped one course in Rakovac". If you have anything interesting or you want to help me, you can write a mail to info@nikolatesla.cat or leave a message here. Take a look to: http://postimg.org/gallery/2f0tx6dgs/ Here you can find Tesla's front page baptismal record (I have also the back but in low quality, waiting for the Belgrade Museum), the telegram where Tesla says he's Serbian (in fact he says that he's equally proud of his Serbian origin and his Croatian birthplace), a composition of catastral registers of where he was born (that won't be published, the fee for that would be so expensive, but it's good for working), his birth house before the war in Yugoslavia (more less in 1992 if I remember well) and the record in which it says Tesla was successful in the maturity exam. Pozdrav!
- P.S.: Won't you know how a Catalan can learn Croatian? I am searching for a text book Catalan-Croatian, but I haven't found one.
- Yeah, writing own work is more complex than writing for Wikipedia. Documents on Tesla are hard to find online and those images are in high quality so I guess you'll be interested in this [1]. Unfortunately I can't find it in English but documents and images are in high quality. Here's some on English [2].
- Sorry, don't know how a Catalan can learn Croatian. I guess there's more material on English. I speak Croatian so I'd be glad to help you. If I find some materials I'll for sure let you know.141.138.20.5 (talk) 20:34, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks! I had already seen that webpage. In fact, I was in contact with the creator but he didn't answer my last mail. I have to resend it but maybe I will call him if I found his number. Thanks another time! --Oriol20 (talk) 21:13, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
I saw that request for deletion. I'll write my opinion tomorrow. But, yeah, you'll find many people here on Wikipedia that have their own reasons to push a certain opinion on Tesla. I think that the same went with that telegram you mentioned. They removed it from Wikipedia as unreliable, while it's kept in Zagreb museum. I think that they used this website to remove it: [3]. The site makes some good points, but Wikipedia needs secondary sources to do anything. Well at least in theory, although in practice, anything is possible. 141.138.27.160 (talk) 22:26, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
- This is just ridiculous. The only thing I can do is laugh at it... Oriol20 (talk) 12:03, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Also, I agree. Wikipedia is sometimes a waste of time. Once I spent months dealing with one editor who wanted to push his own opinion over a very simple edit. Well, I'm more interested in discussions and not so much in articles. =) 141.138.27.160 (talk) 22:35, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
- I see! hahahaha :) Oriol20 (talk) 12:03, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
