Lego City
editOtto, love your picture of the Lego Chicago city you built. I've always been meaning to, but you know, keep getting side tracked (read: too lazy). Well done! --Jquarry 03:03, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Cinema of Austria
editWOW!!! Amazing work on Cinema of Austria it as good as the majority of the cinema pages already and I only started it a few weeks ago well done!!!!! Feel free to help with the timeline of Austrian films List of Austrian films. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 12:20, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- No Problem :-) Indeed, it is only the "hard facts" (in some parts not even). Various important parts of austrian film history are missing - and important details, at least during the nazi-time. Also the last 10 years are very interesting with different awarded production from younger - and not so young - austrian directors (documentary films as We Feed the World or the awarded Darwin's Nightmare. I hope you or someone else can work on the article? I'm not sure if I can make the article much better with my level of english :) But I will feel free to take some looks at this and other lists :-) By the way: take a look at de:Österreichische Filmgeschchichte (german version of the article). It is the 5th longest "something" in the german language Wikipedia. It ist the 3rd longest article and the 2nd longest "excellent article" (one of 800 top-featured articles). All the text was written by me :-P Hard work - and there's still enough to do (throw unimportant details out and put more important things in). -- Otto Normalverbraucher 17:38, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Before I start: What films should the list include? Probably not all 3000. -- Otto Normalverbraucher 17:51, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Das ist sehr gut ja!!!! I have just seen your message. Yes what I am doing is compiling a list of the majority of films by country. Please list as many films as possible, but for example a short documentary is not really notable enough for the list. As the lists get longer they will be split by decade and when I do the AMerican film lists the lists will again by split inot a page for every year. You can list as many of those 3000 Austrian films as possible and feel free to start articles on all of these films. Although if page exceed 40kb then you can split by decade. Excellent work. Feel free to help also on other countries. Ernst Stavro Blofeld 15:52, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okeydoke...ist it ok to add the original names of the movies in parentheses ()? Or should I proceed in another way. Should I add other informations too, like the Genre of the movies? Or the production company? Rhere is some space left in the table because there are two columns for the release year! (or one is for the production year and the other for the release year, but I think one column is enough ... only for the release year) -- Otto Normalverbraucher 18:11, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes either of those would be helpful but please only keep the actors to two if possible as that column is too thick. Good work. As the list develop I will branch it off by decade as I have done with List of Argentine films. List as many of those 3000 feature films as you canErnst Stavro Blofeld 11:19, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Otto, and congratulations for your work on the Austrian list. I also live in Ternitz, NO, but my German is not very good. I wanted you to know that the whole series of lists of films by country is being standardized (as in List of French films, List of Australian films) with 5 columns, i.e. Title, Director, Cast (or Actors), Genre and Notes. The column on Producer is not being included, so I really wouldn't wish that your efforts get wasted. If you think the producer info is important, it can come in the last column (Notes). There is our new WP Films department of lists and navigation management, where we are trying to keep all discussions running, please give us your opinion there. Hoverfish Talk 19:22, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Otto. THats odd that you have suddenly sprung back to life after I added those earlier film to the Austrian list. Please see my comment on the list navigation page. I know it is easier to copy from German wikipedia by adding the producer column first but please keep this in the end column Notes/Producer. All the other lists are developing this way. THankyou ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 18:39, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Producer details are intended to go in the Notes column. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 18:41, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I did my best to change to the new 5-column formatting without any mistakes. If there is anything I did wrong, please excuse me, I will be glad to correct it. All best. Hoverfish Talk 19:56, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- That's all right! Thanks for that! The only thing I wonder, is, if it would probably be better to make a own section for every year, if I add all the movies of one year. Because otherwise, the columns have no headlines (actors, director, notes etc.) -- Otto Normalverbraucher 20:51, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- by the way, its not by chance that I "sprung back to life" right after you (@ Sir Blofeld) made some additions. I decided to work on on the list, because I saw, that there's happening something, and that the whole list-thing goes on... so I thought I could go on contributing. But I will still keep looking there only from time to time, because I work a lot in the german language Wikipedia. -- Otto Normalverbraucher 20:54, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I had my thoughts too about some decades becoming too long for one table. If you could give me an approximate idea of what numbers we may be dealing with in each decade, I will split accordingly. Too many tiny little tables also load the page, so decades that can be kept in one table make it easier to follow. Hoverfish Talk 21:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- one time, if the list gets too long, the decades could be "outsourced", as it already happened in some other film lists. But at the moment I see only need for acting in the years 2006 and 2007, where I added all feature films which came out until now. I suggest to make own sections for these two years. by the way: what should i state in the column "genre" if the movie is a fictional film and I dont know what about the movie is (drama, comedy etc.) - should I only state "fictional film" or "narrative" or whatever... what do you recommend? -- Otto Normalverbraucher 21:27, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, take a look at Cinematic genre for the main genres. Usually we peek in IMDb and give the main first couple of genres. Usual combinations are given as in "Comedy drama", "Romantic comedy", "Sci-fi adventure", "Action drama", "Thriller / Horror", "Documentary drama", etc. Fictional and narrative are not used so much, but as long as the main genre is stated, feel free to describe a film as you think proper. And make sure you include my all favorite film Drei Herren. I recomend it to everyone as "The" Austrian film. I will split the last two years now. Cheers. Hoverfish Talk 21:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi, you left a comment on my talk page way back in January about the Cinema of Austria article. I've not been doing any editing since last Autumn but I'm back now and I'll have a look at the article and see if I can polish the translation a little. You've certainly added a lot of useful content and I think some editors have done some tidying in the intervening period but there's still a "copyedit" tag on the page so I think there's room for improvement. Valiantis 13:33, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Exactly :-) -- Otto Normalverbraucher 18:24, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Kicking
editPlease do not change page Kicking, which is redirect page to page kick. Your information submitted from IP:193.170.67.101 I have moved to page Kicking, Austria.--Pooh-winnie 10:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- That makes no sense! There is a redirect from kicking to kick, but from "kick" there's no link to the kicking-disambiguation (Kicking (Austria))! So if I search "Kicking" I only find the kick-article without any chance of finding the towns in Austria with the same name. -- Otto Normalverbraucher 12:48, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have added dab link in article kick to Kicking, Austria. Sorry if I offended you anyway. IMHO it's much better to distinguish name of austrian location named Kicking by posting on separate page Kicking, Austria, than to post it on Kicking in general, while we can't exclude existence of same-name locations in other countries.
Austrian film
editI was using Austrian wikipedia list as a source . Perhaps it wasn't the first but it certainly is amongst the oldest films. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 12:52, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
If you could start an article on Saturn Film great. I'm rather busy at present ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 12:53, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- the list is not complete. furthermore, the could be listed other films of 1907 and no one coul know which of them was produced/published first. ... probably I'll start an article about Saturn Film. But the Am Sklavenmarkt-article is an own case. It exists only because of the argument it would be the first austrian movie. and this argument is not exactly true... it is "one of some" "first" movies... made in 1907 or 1906. -- Otto Normalverbraucher (talk) 21:29, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Danke fürs Kompliment!

Bloch Publishing Company and Hugo Bettauer
editThank you for pointing out that in the Bloch Publishing Company article, the interwiki link to de:Hugo Bettauer wasn't correctly formatted. Somebody does need to write an English-language article about Bettauer. (I have it on my list of things to do, but would be quite pleased if someone else got there first!) In the meantime, I have reformatted the link to the German article, following the suggested format described at WP:ILL#Method.--Arxiloxos (talk) 02:14, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- Do you mean that you would expand the Hugo Bettauer article if just someone else would start it? :) I could start it, but I don't know the english formatting rules very well. -- Otto Normalverbraucher (talk) 21:19, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- As you remark, I seem to be aktiv again, like it or not - so I have translated the German article on Bettauer. It's bit rough round the edges, but it will serve as a springboard. Bizarre, BTW, that Rothstock already had an article but that Bettauer didn't. All best, HeartofaDog (talk) 02:01, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- OMG - wow thats really a lot of work! Thanks a thousand times :-D Nice to have you back in english Wikipedia :-D All best too! -- Otto Normalverbraucher (talk) 02:12, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks to both of you for getting Herr Bettauer into the English Wikipedia where he deserves to be.--Arxiloxos (talk) 03:00, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Stills
editBrilliant! esp. the singing ghosts pic, which is really funny - thanks so much. I must get the DVD / read the book.
By the way, I am happy to translate more Austrian film-related articles (or German ones), if there are any more you'd like done - I find them very interesting, but usually I just pick them at random, without any system, as and when something happens to catch my eye. So if there are any that you think are important, also bitte! All best, HeartofaDog (talk) 15:23, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for this great offer! I haven't written that much film articles in de-WP until now, because its usually very difficult to find good sources, especially about films of the 20s and 30s! Especially, when they are Austrian films ;-) But yes, there are a few, which were (are) also international known/international distributed in the 20s/30s, which are interesting too (usually, the Austrian films of the 20s and 30s include cast/staff, who got famous in Hollywood later in the emigration; so some of these films could be interesting as "early works" of some authors, directors, actors and cinematographers... oh... and not to forget: the production designers ("film architects")... :)). But there are also at least a few Austrian films which are just interesting as great Austrian films. For example there ist de:Maskerade (Film) - the masterpiece of Willi Forst. The film is known as the best "Wiener Film" (the costume/deco/comedian genre which always plays in the old Habsburg Vienna). As the highlight of the Austrian comedy film between 1930 and 1970 (when the classic comedies were produced), the film, which was retaken in 1935 in the USA as "Escapade" is really worth an article :-D Thanks again for the offer, thats really fun to get these articles, which were already hard work in german, translated completely in english :-D All best -- Otto Normalverbraucher (talk) 23:33, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Translations
editOtto, I am really sorry not to reply before, but I forgot to watch your page, and then got sidetracked. But I have read it now. I have done a translation of the German article on Maskerade - see Maskerade (film). I suspect that this doesn't do it justice - there must be more to add on why it is such a good film. Any more specific suggestions? (I promise to watch the page better). In the meantime I'll follow up your ideas. All best, HeartofaDog (talk) 00:55, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hy! Nice to see the translation :) Sorry from my side too, I have not been logged in in en-WP the last few weeks; the following weeks I'm not sure if I'll have enough time for working/reading/correcting in the english wikipedia, because I have a lot of work at the university this month (learning). Today I completed the year 2007 in the List of Austrian_films_of_the_2000s; there, I already completed all cinema productions since 2005 - to have a complete overview. But the english there is very bad I guess; If you have time and interest it would be nice if you could check the language I used there ;-) All best -- Otto Normalverbraucher (talk) 00:57, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- No problem - life outside Wikipedia is more important (despite what some people seem to think round here)! I'll gladly take a look at the list, and in the meantime Happy New Year! HeartofaDog (talk) 01:22, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

- No problem - I'll go on and translate the Background section, and some - but not all - of the critical comments when I have a moment. HeartofaDog (talk) 13:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Otto Wolff AG
editHi - The article Otto Wolff AG is up for deletion on the English-language Wikipedia. At the moment it is a little weak on independent sources. I note you created the Otto Wolff AG article on the German Wikipedia. If you have time and you have an interest in this topic, and if you have access to German language sources, a small contribution to this article would be very welcome! Thanks! - Crosbiesmith (talk) 11:36, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hy there! :) Sorry for the (too) late answer to your ..erm... question (request?) on my discussion page on de-Wikipedia. But as I had an important exam today at the university (Vienna) I was studying the whole weekend and did not work in the Wikipedia. The article seems nearly as long as the de-Version, but truely, there's one important fact, which made the guy and the company so controversial in the "process of coming to terms with one's past" (this should mean "Vergangenheitsbewältigung" - a online-dictionary proposed me ony this phrase ^^), which is missing in the article: The company was co-founded by Ottmar E. Strauß, who was, as jew, dispossessioned by the nazis during the NS-regime - Otto Wolff then overtook his shares on the company and got rich with it as producer for the NS-army. The fact, that he never had to give account on this - but quite the contrary - got an important role in international economy relationships of postwar-germany led to controverse discussions and - at least - a quite well known documentary film called "Hat Wolff von Amerongen Konkursdelikte begangen?" (thats why I know of this guy and his story). I'll try to add the most important facts concerning this part of the history of him and the company to the article. thanks for contacting me - its not like I'm always searching for new work, but I acknowledge it very much, when people take their "business" serial and try to find help in other-language-Wikipedias when they don't find sources in the own language or simply just need a competent interpreter :) If you hadn't contact me on the de-site, I would also have missed your request. so, well done :) -- Otto Normalverbraucher (talk) 00:36, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- I hope your exam went well. Thanks! - Crosbiesmith (talk) 18:24, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- In the 1920ies the Otto Wolff OHG had been the small one of the big ones among German steel producers. There is some further information necessary on the sentence about “Ottmar E. Strauß, who was, as jew, dispossessioned by the nazis during the NS-regime - Otto Wolff then overtook his shares on the company and got rich with it as producer for the NS-army.” In fact Ottmar Strauß had already lost all his fortune in the Great Depression as he had done speculation on high stakes. Otto Wolff senior did not get rich on his cost. As he had oppossed to the Nazis in the days before “Machtergreifung” they didn't like him and there was some risk for him to be killed along with his friend Kurt von Schleicher in 1934. His company was run by a “Generalbevollmächtigter” (plenipotentiary) Rudolf Siedersleben who was placed there by the Nazis. ----87.184.227.115 (talk) 18:36, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
