Editing school articles
editYou will have seen your edit on Marylebone Boys' School reverted twice now. To explain in greater detail the issues:
- It removes citations to the "West End Extra" and "Kilburn Times", BBC, etc. which are valued secondary sources.
- It introduces material that is (in the first instance) sourced to the school itself, known as a primary source of little value to the encyclopedia, or (in the second instance) not sourced at all. Supplying the actual links to the source wasn't the problem; it was the material itself.
- You can consult Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article advice to get an idea of what is expected in school articles. That guideline states under what not to include: "Copies of the school's mission statement, aims, or goals – these are generally considered promotional".
- You may have a conflict of interest when editing that page.
- There may be an issue with your account name. In the Wikipedia Username policy you will see that the name suggests shared use, or editing that does not represent an individual.
It is important to understand that articles on schools are not "the school's web page on Wikipedia". They are not the same thing as web sites or social media pages that the school might publish. They are meant to be articles in an encyclopedia, and they will be curated by a variety of editors in the community. Feel free to ask for further clarification. 14:51, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
