Image copyright problem with Image:PHKyoukan.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:PHKyoukan.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Reefer Madness (1936 film) gallery

I see you removed the image gallery on Reefer Madness (1936 film), saying "The gallery is not appearing properly. I have removed it until this problem is fixed." What browser/OS/screen resolution combination are you using? It appears perfectly fine on Firefox, Windows XP, all resolutions. Cyde

I'm deeply sorry if I offended you with my comment. But you were indeed wikilawyering, and proclaiming a good-faith contributior was acting in bad faith. I really do not think you are in a posistion to lecture fellow contributors about unnecessary commments in light of your most recent addition to Cyde's talkpage [1].

I'll not argue that Cyde's methods are not always favorable amoung the community, but I'm sure he's acting in good faith, as are you. We all have different viewpoints on what is best for the encyclopedia, and Cyde is merely invoking that. -Zero^Talk 16:00, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Cyde (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) (aka Cyde Weys) has been, for the past month, abusing his administrator privileges. I have seen him block users for small infractions, flame people who speak against him, unblock himself because it was inconvenient, delete templates which have reached a mostly unanimous keep consensus, troll, and be, in general, not a nice person.

Also, the user Fake User (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is, most probably, a sock puppet of Cyde; on WP:TfD, in the May 15 section, Fake User made many userbox deletion requests (this was of course after Cyde was asked not to make any more userbox deletion requests) at 19:21 UTC, beginning Here. Ten minutes later, at 19:30, Cyde went through and added "Subst and delete, not an encyclopedic template" to EVERY one of Fake User's requests. This tells me that Fake User (added just a day or two after Cyde's promise to not make any more userbox deletion requests) is almost definitely a sock puppet of Cyde in order for him to keep deleting things without reprimand. Not to mention, everywhere I go, Cydebot is screwing up User pages.

Cyde is rude, patronizing, denigrating, and seems to believe that Wikipedia is "not a community"; it is simply an encyclopedia and nothing more. I belive that Cyde needs to be de-admined, asked to take a Wikibreak, or at least spoken sternly to. Because of Cyde, I, myself, have been as of late contemplating leaving my beloved Wikipedia. I am at my wits' end, and I do not wish to be "cyber-bullied" by this admin anymore. Nor does anyone else. --Porphyric Hemophiliac § 01:03, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

We shouldn't be too quick to jump on the desysop wagon, but I do believe that the sheer volume of complaints against Cyde recently suggests a more formal investigation into claims against them be raised. I've been at ends with many of Cyde's actions, but still think that he may be doing what he thinks is best for the encyclopedia. This may not be what everyone else wants, but generally there is nothing that everyone wants. Nothing he's done seems to warrant any quick desysop this guy before the project burns to the ground reactions. Nothing to do with userboxes warrants any anything. The userbox war is a game. If you choose to play, you accept that your piece may be taken. You may have to wait longer than in Counter Strike before you're back in the game, but it's much less of a wait than in chess. Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, PHDrillSergeant, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, Titoxd, JoanneB, and Freakofnurture.

8-Bit Theater edit

Evening. Recently, you made an edit to the "Unanswered Questions" section of the 8-Bit Theater article. Specifically, you removed one of the questions. But, it appears that you did so based upon your own speculation about the answer to the question. Firstly, your speculation was incorrect, as the conversation in the comic obviously takes place in the future. Secondly, lots of people have their own speculations about that particular comic, but that doesn't mean that they should remove the question simply because they think they know the answer. I encourage you to find others who can add support, because it seems in the past the article has suffered from inadequate defense. A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

In the article about Martha Jones you removed a bit of text because you said the Christmas Special had already aired, when in fact The Runaway Bride (Doctor Who) 2006 Christmas special is months away, I think you were thinking about the 2005 Christmas Special, The Christmas Invasion. LiveWire cont

The location paragraph says it is hard to find 20 ounces and cans, it does not mention where it can be found. So the table gives people a way to find out if LiveWire is available in their area. Those that happen upon the article can update the table with locations they know of. The idea is that there is a source to reference when looking for LiveWire. Let's say I am going on a trip and want to know if LiveWire will be available, I can just check its wiki to see if it is or not. Maryland

As a Wikipedian from Maryland, you have a unique perspective that I would like to hear about. I, too, grew up in Maryland, and saw very recently an extremely heated debate over which region Maryland fell into, the South or the Northeast. It is listed in the Northeastern article, but Maryland's page calls it a "border state," which is a cop-out if you ask me. Anyway, I was wondering where you think the state actually belongs. I personally believe that it is, in practice and politics, Northeastern. I would love to hear your opinion on this.

Some good software for JPG resizing is JPGCleaner it cleans the file of unneeded data (i.e: meta) also reducing the quality in PS can reduce the size without any apparent loss of quality, for PNGs OptiPNG is good. ;-) Matthew Fenton (Talk | Contribs) 20:04, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Medal of Honor

I noticed your edits to the MoH article. As an experienced editor, you know how important verifiability is to the editing process (WP:V). The matter you address, the proper name for the award, has been hashed out at length in the article's talk page. If you want to make a case for CMoH, you're going to need to line up your sources. One obstacle you'll need to overcome is the fact that images of actual citations used in some of the biographical articles clearly show the MoH and not the CMoH name. I'm going to guess at this point that some other editor has already gone directly to the source, the law establishing the medal, and pulled the name from that source. At any rate, replacing sourced information with unsourced information isn't going to fly on an article with such a high profile. Rklawton 22:08, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Porphyric hemophilia

Hello, you just deleted the article for polyphyric hemophilla and redirected it the page altogether.

The main problem is that the article wasn't about the actual disease, but about the disease in the Elder Scrolls universe- most specifically, it relates to the contraction of vampirism in those games. I believe that it is sufficently different to the real world illness to warrent it's own article, in addition to the fact it held a good chunk of the information about vamprism in those games and the fact I've been working on expanding it.

I'm off to to try and work out how to get it back, and probably how to get it on a page more similar to ' Polyphyric hemophilla (Elder Scrolls) or something of that nature. Morgrim 07:06, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Porphyria

If you'd care to Google for "porphyric hemophilia" you will rapidly find that the term is made up for the purposes of the video game. There is no condition in clinical medicine that goes by that name; rather, it uses a misinterpretation of the concept "hemophilia" to suggest that porphyriacs "love blood" (they don't, honestly).

I am again removing the dablink from porphyria and have changed the redirect accordingly. Please provide evidence for the existence of "porphyric hemophilia" as a clinical entity before making these changes again. JFW | T@lk 23:28, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I eased up on some, but some of the things there do need a citation. I've explained my recent changes, point by point, on the discussion page. I'm also contacting the user who added the OR banned to the article so we can get his input. He may have different thoughts than yours. I'm the person who originally added the OR tag. Hopefully you don't mind me joining in this conversation. In response to your message to User:Bark:

• Speculation ("This might be a reference to...") which does not need citation.

No, but it's original research, and hence needs to be removed. See WP:NOR. An alternative to removing it is to change it to "It has been speculated that...", and providing a reference for the speculation.

• Knowledge gained from SG documentaries ("...Dan Shea, who is in fact also the Stunt Coordinator...") which does not need citation.

Yes, it does - otherwise, how can a reader of the article verify that fact? It is possible to reference a SG documentary - see Template:Cite visual, among others, or alternatively the reference can be given without using a template.

• Knowledge about other series ("...which is what occured when fans of Firefly...") which does not need citation.

This is a bit more tricky. The thing that occured with Firefly needs to be referenced.

• Info from actors themselves, usually from documentaries and behind-the-scenes ("...Amanda Tapping, who said...") which does not need citation.

The documentaries and behind-the-scenes /are/ the references, and should be given.

I hope that helps. If necessary, I will add citation needed tags to each instance where sources are needed, but there is likely to be an awful lot of them. Mike Peel 20:46, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

This was not a test. I wanted to keep the neutrality of the article, because it cannot be proved that a person named Jesus really was cruxified in the 1st century. I will put it back, until you can tell me how that was vandalism.

I don't see the "sources" cited on the page... so I will go with "Supposed date of Jesus's Cruxifiction", what does one word meant to maintain the neutrality of the article hurt?

PHDrillSergeant, if you are going to contribute to a debate please be sure to identify what the debate is about. It is not about the actual race of Jesus. It is about this sentence currently in the article: "in Europe, some of the earlier representations of Christ, Mary etc. depict them as being dark-skinned." This is a false statement. None of the "earlier representations of Christ, Mary etc." depict them as dark skined. All of the earliest representations are of Jesus, and they depict him according to Greco-Roman artistic conventions (depictions of Mary come later). There are some medieval icons that appear very dark, but that's due to discolouration and pigment degredation. None of these are genuinely documented as early images. Also, if you are going to quote WP policy, be sure you do so where it is relevant. This debate is about the content of the article and about notability of sources. It has nothing to do with soapboxes or pushing "religious beliefs". By the way, it's false to say that the "generally accepted Eastern images" depict him as "middle eastern or black". The Eastern Orthodox churches have used very rigid conventions in icon imagery. The idea that artists attempted to represent "middle eastern" ethnicity is totally anachonistic. That's an issue from the 19th century on. There are very few images in whichJesus is depicted as black. Even the Ethiopian orthodox church does not typically do so. Semen photo

Response to your post on my talk page: Saying that Wikipedia isn't censored isn't exactly accurate. It doesn't censor blindly for content, but if you were to edit the Semen page to say something like "semen is the manjuice that comes out of a guys dick when he's done fucking something (usually his own hand)", it would get reverted as vandalism. And if you did that a couple more times you'd be given a vacation from posting.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and there are plenty of editors and admins here who want to keep it encyclopedic. And that means changing content to suit the purpose. To me, and to other users that image is grafitti on the page it appears.

I don't object to images of porn on a page about porn. And I wouldn't object to semen2.jpg if it were used to illustrate the sort of content that one might find on the /b/ imageboard at 4chan.org, or at encycopediadramatica.com. I think in the article it's in isn't the best use of the image. The article is meant to address a clinical topic, and the image makes it seem vulgar and childish. I will seek an appropriate replacement image.

Reply to your reply: Please reread my arguments, and realize that I'm not talking about personal offence. You are moving the debate to me as an individual, and away from the appropriate of the image, which has repeatedly been called into question. Ad hominem, I think they call it, and it's not a legitimate debate tactic (even if it is effective).

Just because I say the image is vulgar I don't place a personal, emotional judgement on it. It's an objective observation. Conventional wisdom, and a significant number of comments on the article's talk page, indicates that it's in bad taste, which makes it unsuitable where it sits. It seems to me that most of the arguments in favor of keeping the image don't address appropriateness or alternative images except in passing. The main argument is free speech which isn't a driving tenant in editorial policy. The image in its current use is unencyclopedic, and I will continue to push for its removal and/or replacement even if the IfD fails.

Last observation: The "KEEP" camp seems to me to be a vocal minority taking on the appearance of a majority. Historically (on the article's talk page) when someone protests the image they are responded to with empty-sounding arguments about free speech, censorship, and unsupported claims of appropriateness. The style of argument employed by most supporters could be used to justify anything if it were logically valid.
