Notice of Neutral point of view noticeboard discussion

Hello, PRODUCER. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

Dobroslav Jevđević

Hope you don't mind, but I've put him up for FAC (jointly). I reckon he's well and truly ready. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 06:35, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

If you get a chance, could you have a look at the query re: Serbo-Croat sources that User:Joy has made on the FA page for Jevđević? Thanks, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 03:53, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Nearly there I reckon... Peacemaker67 (send... over) 23:18, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Congratulations!

  The Military history A-Class medal
On behalf of the coordinators of the Military history WikiProject, I'm pleased to award you the A-Class medal for your work on the Pavle Đurišić, Dobroslav Jevđević and Kosta Pećanac articles, which were promoted to A-Class between July 2013 and January 2013. Matrakçı Nasuh

Thanks for keeping an eye out for the article on Matrakçı Nasuh which has lately been exposed to IP vandalism from, not unexpectedly, Serbia. Praxis Icosahedron (talk) 00:12, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Dobroslav Jevđević

This is a note to let the main editors of Dobroslav Jevđević know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on March 9, 2013. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/March 9, 2013. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegates Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you can change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Dobroslav Jevđević (1895–1962) was a Bosnian Serb politician and self-appointed Chetnik commander in the Herzegovina region of Yugoslavia during the Second World War. He was a member of the inter–war Chetnik Association and the Organisation of Yugoslav Nationalists party in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, a Yugoslav National Party member of the National Assembly, and a leader of the opposition during King Alexander's dictatorship. Following the invasion of Yugoslavia by the Axis in April 1941, he became a Chetnik leader in Herzegovina and joined the Chetnik movement of Draža Mihailović, although he often operated independently from Mihailović. Jevđević collaborated with the Italians and later the Germans in actions against the Yugoslav Partisans. During a joint Italian-Chetnik Operation Alfa, Jevđević's Chetniks, along with other Chetnik forces, were responsible for killing between 500 and 1,700 Bosnian Muslim and Catholic civilians in the Prozor region in October 1942. His force also participated in one of the largest Axis anti-Partisan operations of the war, Case White in the winter of 1943. In the spring of 1945, he fled to Italy where he resided until his death. Jevdjevic pic

There is some discussion about the pic with the Italians File:Jevđević with Italians.jpg being unfree. Could you take a look and see if you can shed any light? They need someone who can read the Cyrillic and English. It appears to have arisen during the process of getting a pic for the FA of the day. Hungarian occupation of Yugoslav territories

G'day, this article is GA and currently at ACR. Not sure where you want to put it in Bora. I foresee the need for a number of additional articles such as Bulgarian occupation of Yugoslav territories. Maybe a section for occupied territories? Territory of the Military Commander in Serbia, Province of Ljubljana, Operational Zone of the Adriatic Littoral, Governorate of Dalmatia and perhaps one or two others might fit there? Peacemaker67 (send... over) 05:51, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Your suggestion is probably the most optimal solution. --PRODUCER (TALK) 22:35, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Bugle interview

Hi PRODUCER. The Bugle newsletter runs a semi-regular interview series where we ask various editors to discuss a particular topic. Our next interview aims to bring together editors working on subjects related to the Former Yugoslavia. Would you mind adding your views to the questions here? Our goal is to despatch this edition by say 20 March, so if you can respond in the next week or so, that'd be great. Thanks/cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 13:15, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Mostar International Airport, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Athens Airport and Milan Airport (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Operation Storm ACR

Hi! Thank you for your patience regarding the delay in addressing your concerns raised at the Operation Storm A-class review. I addressed a part of the issues you raised, and requested your input on others. Could you please provide me with the feedback at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Operation Storm so that I could resolve the outstanding issues as well. Thanks--Tomobe03 (talk) 12:22, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the swift response. I'll take up your advice on removal of the translations shortly - I'll notify the copyeditor first of the reasons I'm doing that so that he/she would not feel that I'm dismissing the copyedits out of hand. I'll also remove overlinking of the source authors and publishers once the sources are alphabetized but before that's done I need to know if those works without the author info are placed ahead or following works with author data available (posted the question at the ACR page too).--Tomobe03 (talk) 13:32, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
Ouch. Right. I'll get them straightened out this time hopefully.--Tomobe03 (talk) 14:16, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
I think I got all the overlinking straightened out, but I'll recheck that area once again just to make sure. I left one link per publisher in, is that's alright or should those be removed altogether?--Tomobe03 (talk) 14:58, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi! Could I drag you over to MILHIST IRC channel for a minute or two? (access through: Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history - in the second paragraph on the page)?--Tomobe03 (talk) 22:40, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Can u please help on glamoc page? (MojGlamoc (talk) 17:52, 14 March 2013 (UTC)).

Europe

Please read what I wrote on Talk:Europe and please don't bring EE disputes to this article. Please add countries to the list, don't remove them. Eastern Europe is not comparable to the United Kingdom (except for The Troubles). Removing counries from the list will almost certainly cause offense to some editors and give rise to disputes in future. No content is being added but some kind of WP:POINT is being made. Adding countries seems fine. So by all means go ahead and add any missing country in Eastern Europe that you think should be there. Europe is a neutral article; there is no need for WP:ARBEE disputes to spill over there. Thanks, Mathsci (talk) 01:56, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Categories for Operation Bora

G'day again PRODUCER, just been thinking about categories that impact on Operation Bora. As we are starting at the start, I thought I'd start with the existing Royal Yugoslav Armed Forces of 1941, as we are already dealing with various military types who were involved in the coup and the invasion, and the current category trees for the Kingdom of Yugoslavia military are not going to be very useful. I created Category:Royal Yugoslav Army to complete a proper subcategory tree for Category:Military of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The next step is probably to create subcategories for Category:Yugoslav military personnel of World War II. I'm thinking:

Before I create them, I was wondering if the navy and air force ones should be renamed to "Royal Yugoslav Navy" and "Royal Yugoslav Air Force" respectively? The sh is apparently Jugoslavenska kraljevska ratna mornarica and Vazduhoplovstvo vojske Kraljevine Jugoslavije. I think they should be consistent across all three services if that is appropriate given the grammar. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 04:14, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

I'd follow your recommendation as the Google Book hits support the "Royal" adjective being first more than the "Yugoslav" adjective being first. If we want to be technically correct from the local SH then the army would be the "Yugoslav Army", the navy would be the "Yugoslav Royal Navy", and the air force would be the "Air Force of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia". But these are inconsistent and scarce in English use or too ambiguous. --PRODUCER (TALK) 15:25, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
OK. On that basis I'll CfD the Navy and Air Force to match Army then create the "...personnel of World War II" subcategories. I'll let you know when I do. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 03:11, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
All done now. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 00:03, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
I think Category:Yugoslav partisans could use renaming too. The category's "partisan" part and its subcategories are not capitalized like in the respective article. --PRODUCER (TALK) 00:23, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
I've put it up at [[WP:CFDS}}. If it goes through I'll sort out the rest. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 02:00, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

A purely aesthetic issue as it may be, I'm afraid I will have to contend you on this one. Use of photo-montages is the preferred means of display for ethnic group infoboxes (browse around if you need convincing). What is your objection? Praxis Icosahedron (talk) 18:55, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi PRODUCER, I was wondering if you would consider picking up the review task for the future GA nomination of Siege of Srebrenica? Bratunac

Number one, one of the sources you removed is Al Jazeera, which is considered a reliable source on Wikipedia. Number two, the manner of language that is written in that source says it is non-neutral, by openly saying the Serbs are lying forgerers who are making up miths. However you try to spin it that is non-neutral language. Wikipedia is based on neutrality. Pushing for one sides POV over the other is not what Wikipedia stands for. For sake of compromise, I will rewrite the text so that BOTH claims are presented, without the blog source that you have issue with. Namely, the claim by the Serbs and the counter-claim by the documentation center. Both need to be presented if neutrality is to be upheld. EkoGraf (talk) 13:55, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

I will withold for the time being of editing the article given your compromising removal of the other unsourced claim. I think that is proper and fair. EkoGraf (talk) 13:57, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

It wasn't debunked, that group you are pointing to is making in fact its own claims. Plus the research group is obviously Bosniak in origin which is in complete contrast to a Serb POV. And they said that the information on the killings of Serbs is and I qoute a shameful manipulation and a mith, called the Serb information falsification, and called the information in general falsified. Just the title shameful manipulation is non-neutral POV. So, if both POVs were to be presented it would be proper, fair and neutral to point out that one is a Serbian claim one is a claim by that research group. And we leave it up to the Wikipedia reader to make up their own mind who is right and who is wrong and not push just one POV over the other. In any case, like I said, since you removed that other claim as well I am backing of on this issue for the time being. EkoGraf (talk) 14:41, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

User:Yerevanci

Could we possibly investigate a topic ban for this user? He's been in trouble before and now continues the same incongruities on the Bosnian Genocide article where he 1) denies the genocide, 2) promotes conspiracy theories and 3) requests a move based on the former two points. Praxis Icosahedron ϡ (TALK) 16:29, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

You can investigate whatever you want. I just want to clarify this. I do not deny that the Srebrenica massacre was a genocidal act. However, the term "Bosnian Genocide" makes it sound like a significant part of the Bosnian people were killed in it, which is not the case. See here Genocides in history. There are dozens of ethnic cleansing acts that are often described genocides, but their title does not include the term genocide. Thank you. --Երևանցի talk 16:37, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Oh is that so? Personally, I think the following comment made by you speaks volumes as to your actual standpoint: There is the Srebrenica massacre, which is a horrible act, however, a massacre in[is] NOT a genocide. Moreover, genocide is a crime not solely determined by the extent of it but equally by intent and methodology, i.e. "qualitative" aspects. Praxis Icosahedron ϡ (TALK) 19:02, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
You can misinterpret my words as much as you want. Yes, a single massacre of 8,000 people does NOT equal "Bosnian Genocide". As I said in the talk page I'd support "Genocide in Bosnia", because the Srebrenica massacre was a genocidal act in Bosnia, but it was not the "genocide of the Bosniak people" which the term "Bosnian Genocide" suggests. --Երևանցի talk 20:26, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Of which people was it a genocide of? --PRODUCER (TALK) 20:32, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Srebrenica massacre was the extermination of the local Bosniak males. My point is that the article is contradictory. First it says The term Bosnian Genocide refers to either genocide at Srebrenica and Žepa... And then To date, only the Srebrenica massacre has been found to be a genocide by the ICTY, a finding upheld by the ICJ.
Here, at least a few points that need to clarified:
-Is the massacre in Žepa considered separate from the one in Srebrenica? If no, why does the first sentence say "either genocide at Srebrenica and Žepa"?
-Does the second quote I gave (To date, only...) mean that the term Bosnian Genocide and Srebrenica massacre/genocide are the same thing? If yes, what is the point of having two articles on the same event? Why not redirect it?
-If the Srebrenica massacre is not the sole component of the Bosnian Genocide and that the Serbian polices in general were genocidal then why does the first sentence state what it states? --Երևանցի talk 21:44, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

"Srebrenica massacre was the extermination of the local Bosniak males."

Which constituted a significant part of the Bosniak people.

"Is the massacre in Žepa considered separate from the one in Srebrenica? If no, why does the first sentence say "either genocide at Srebrenica and Žepa"?"

This is just incredibly poor reading comprehension on your part. Bosnian Genocide can refer to either the events at Srebrenica and Žepa "or the ethnic cleansing campaign throughout areas controlled by the Army of the Republika Srpska that took place during the 1992–1995 Bosnian War."

"Does the second quote I gave (To date, only...) mean that the term Bosnian Genocide and Srebrenica massacre/genocide are the same thing? If yes, what is the point of having two articles on the same event? Why not redirect it?

The "to date" bit refers only to the findings of ICTY not that of academia and other reliable sources. Milošević was indicted and charged with carrying out a genocidal campaign in numerous locations besides Srebrenica, but he died while the trial was in progress. Karadžić is likewise on trial for genocide in numerous municipalities as we speak. --PRODUCER (TALK) 22:26, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

You just proved my point that the lead isn't accurate. How can that term refer to the massacre of Srebrenica or the ethnic cleansing campaign throughout areas controlled by the Army of the Republika Srpska that took place during the 1992–1995 Bosnian War? Am I missing something? If the ethnic cleansing campaign by the Serb forces throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina is considered a genocide by the mainstream academia why do we need to point out the massacre of Srebrenica? Of course it is the main and the most famous one, but why say that Bosnian Genocide refers to that massacre in particular? --Երևանցի talk 22:43, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Bosnian independence referendum

Thanks for the massive expansion of the article, but I'm a little confused by the results figures you inserted into the article - they are completely different to the academic source I used for the original results. The latter are backed up by the Direct Democracy website and academic papers like this and this. Cheers, Number 57 13:16, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Odd the Swiss source apparently cites the CSCE as a reference for their figures, but the page is blank. Anyway I think your figures are better as they are more specific. For example in regards to the number of the electorate my source gave a general figure of 3,150,000. I've sourced your info with a ref in the first box and removed the results section to get rid of the redundancy. --PRODUCER (TALK) 15:29, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
Cool. I think it's worth having the separate section with a results table - the one in the top right of the article is effectively an infobox, and the vast majority of election and referendum articles have a results section. Cheers, Number 57 18:36, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
How's this? [1] This includes the box right by where the numbers are discussed and solves the missing politics of Bosnia and Herzegovina template. --PRODUCER (TALK) 20:37, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bosnia and Herzegovina independence referendum, 1992, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Serbian Democratic Party (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Invitation to participate in an interview for the Bugle newsletter

Hi, I'm one of the editors of the Military History Wikiproject's newsletter The Bugle, and would like to invite you to participate in a group interview we're conducting for the upcoming December edition. The interview is covering the views of editors who work on topics which are under-represented in the English Wikipedia, and we'd be really interested in your perspectives as an editor who's done a lot of work on Balkans-related topics. If you have time, it would be great if you could provide responses to some or all of the questions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/News/December 2013/Interview by Monday 9 December. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 23:47, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Operation Vrbas '92

Hi! Thanks for the additions to the Operation Vrbas '92 - those have significantly improved the article. I just can't figure out the relevance of the final penultimate paragraph of the aftermath section - how exactly is it related to the topic of the article. Personally, I believe the information is good, but would be better of in the Operation Mistral article instead of here. Thoughts?--Tomobe03 (talk) 23:38, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Your reasoning has some merit, but the argument would make sense (IMO) only if there were no Operation Mistral article because the final paragraph of the aftermath section is only extremely loosely related to the topic of Operation Vrbas '92 article. Since there is an article on Operation Mistral, I'd still say the final penultimate paragraph (referring to post-Septmeber 1995 events) is offtopic since it does not describe neither topic of this article nor a consequence of events which are the topic of this article and therefore should be moved to Operation Mistral or possibly Jajce article per WP:OFFTOPIC.--Tomobe03 (talk) 12:00, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
One more thing: I was planning on submitting the article as a GAN. Since you provided a lot of additional info, would you mind if I added you as a co-nom?--Tomobe03 (talk) 12:13, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
I see your point, but I feel the info should be summarized further per WP:SUMMARY. How about this (I surmised from the offered source the Serb refugees fled the town in 1995) change to the 3rd paragraph of the aftermath section to replace the 4th:
The Croat–Bosniak rift would not be mended before the Washington Agreement signed in March 1994,[41] but not completely. After the HVO recaptured Jajce in HV-led Operation Mistral in 13 September 1995,[42] the town was Croatised,[43] and Bosniak refugees were not allowed to return.[44] By 1998, most Croats had returned to Jajce, while only 5,000 Bosniaks and did so.[45]
The current wording should definitely be added to Op Mistral or Jajce or both.--Tomobe03 (talk) 14:13, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Moved and summarized. I moved the original text to Jajce article for the time being, and I plan to edit the Operation Mistral article relatively soon and will incorporate that info - unless you wish to copy it there right away. GAN is up - but I suspect it will wait a while. Cheers.--Tomobe03 (talk) 18:56, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

could you please adjust the graphics (contrast) for File:Ethnic makeup of Bosnia and Herzegovina before and after the war.jpg? I currently don't have access to photoshop or any other relevant software. Thanks! Praxis Icosahedron ϡ (TALK) 00:42, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Serbian Cyrillic

Hi PRODUCER, I would love to have your opinion in this discussion. In my opinion, the "Serbian" character of the Cyrillic variant is only being emphasized in order to add a "Serbianized" touch to the location/town. Praxis Icosahedron ϡ (TALK) 22:08, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Anti-Serb pogrom in Sarajevo

Hi,

I noticed that, when you complained about my conduct at ANI (link to the section in question), you expressed your concern that RM discussion would attract "editors belonging to a particular ethnic/national "voting bloc"... into the discussion and loyally vote their title regardless of what evidence or arguments are at hand."

After one month from your initiation of RM, what do you think about your "voting bloc" concern? Was your concern justified and if it was, what editors you think are members of "voting bloc" you were concerned about?--Antidiskriminator (talk) 13:15, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Cleaning up

Hello,
In 2012, you started this AfD. Since then, it has been suggested that one of the "Keep" voters had a severe COI problem, one is a sockpuppet, and one seems to have retired after getting tangled up in an ally's sockpuppetry (although I have evidence that they still edit anonymously). Perhaps it would be a good idea to revisit articles like this, and clean up any content in that area which have neutrality problems? What do you think? bobrayner (talk) 23:15, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Main Page appearance: Pavle Đurišić

This is a note to let the main editors of Pavle Đurišić know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on April 13, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at present, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 13, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Pavle Đurišić (1909–1945) was a Montenegrin Serb officer of the Royal Yugoslav Army who became a Chetnik commander during World War II. He was one of the commanders of the popular uprising against the Italians in Montenegro in July 1941, then collaborated with the Italians against the Yugoslav Partisans. In 1943, troops under his command carried out several massacres against the Muslim population of Bosnia, Herzegovina and the Sandžak and participated in an anti-Partisan offensive alongside Italian troops. He was captured by the Germans in May 1943, escaped and was recaptured. He was released after the Italian surrender and began collaborating with the Germans and the Serbian puppet government, creating the Montenegrin Volunteer Corps with German assistance. In late 1944, he was decorated with the Iron Cross 2nd Class by the German commander in Montenegro. He was killed by elements of the Armed Forces of the Independent State of Croatia near Banja Luka after he was captured in an apparent trap. Đurišić was a very able Yugoslav Chetnik leader, and his fighting skills were respected by his allies and opponents alike. (Full article...)

Is the article really intended to focus on parties that were members of Kominterm and that supported Soviet Union a'or' does Communism in the title refer to the general ideology of communism ?
