- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}

editHello, I'm Arjayay. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Chandigarh, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 10:59, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- These are references for the content added by me regarding traditionally speaking puadhi dialect in Chandigarh region - 1) https://dbpedia.org/page/Puadhi_dialect
- 2) https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/jalandhar/rich-in-culture-but-politically-neglected-puadh-region-now-hopes-it-will-finally-get-its-due-7533184/ PSINGH1987 (talk) 11:10, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- dbpedia is NOT a reliable source
There is no point in putting a reference here - it needs to be in the relevant place in the article, and correctly formatted - please see Help:Referencing for beginners for the how-to - Arjayay (talk) 11:30, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- dbpedia is NOT a reliable source
Please do not add or change content, as you did at Haryana, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 11:02, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Barwala, Panchkula, you may be blocked from editing. - Arjayay (talk) 11:07, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll add the citations but I am updating this information about the dialect spoken in these areas as a resident and native of Panchkula district. Just contributing the real and actual information to Wikipedia. PSINGH1987 (talk) 14:04, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
