Balbo

edit

Hello there
I noticed your comment on the talk page here;can you say what Johnson actually said? When did he use the term? (I’m asking because my local library is all in packing cases at the moment, and for the next two years, so I can’t check the book myself).
I’d be interested to get to the bottom of this: The only reference I have found to the term was in Burn’s book on Bader. It was a comment from the October 1940 conference, which discussed the use of Big Wings against the expected (but non-materializing) renewal of the German air offensive in 1941. It theorized formations of two or more (up to seven) Big Wings and "for want of a better word" (as Burn's puts it) referred to them as Balbos.
I assumed from that comment that .a) the term wasn’t already in use before then .b) that it wasn’t an alternative term for the Big Wing itself and .c) it didn’t necessarily come into general use afterwards.
But anything Johnson said on the subject would be illuminating... Xyl 54 (talk) 23:52, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot. That's really great. The 1959 mention was the one I'd already seen snippets of. It would be marvellous if you could post it on my talk, yes. Especially the 1961 mention. Manxruler (talk) 19:40, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Brilliant. I should have the article on "Kongo-Løken" up and running tonight. Invaluable help on your part, thanks again. Manxruler (talk) 19:57, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
One more thing, which pages were the mentions from? Manxruler (talk) 20:01, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
