The current entries for the various battles of the 1809 Campaign in Bavaria and Austria, other than the description of the Battle of Aspern-Essling imported from the 1911 Britannica, are in dire need of revision. As time allows, I would like to revise not just the articles for the individual battles, but the overarching article on the War of the Fifth Coalition itself. For instance, not even scholars generally refer to this campaign as "The War of the Fifth Coalition." It is generally referred to as the "1809 Campaign."

Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!
editHi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines outline some things to include.
- Interested in working on a more complete article? The military history peer review and collaboration departments would welcome your help!
- Interested in a particular area of military history? We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, or periods.
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every military history article in Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 16:25, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Battle of Eckmühl
editIt's looking much nicer than it was before! Two things you might want to consider (as they tend to spring up quite suddenly once you get to a certain point):
- Inline citations (I personally prefer footnotes, but a number of styles are possible) are basically de rigueur for a serious article now. It's usually much easier to add them when first writing the article than having to go back and fill them in afterwards, so you might want to become familiar with how to use them.
- If you plan to (eventually) get this up to featured article status, one of the things that will inevitably be asked for is a map of the battle.
Keep up the great work! Kirill Lokshin 17:17, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- The USMA website has great maps from the "West Point Atlas" which I'd like to use. My assumption is that, as the product of a governmental entity, their use would not entail copyright issues. Has their use been considered by your project?
--Paco Palomo 17:10, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, we've been grabbing them as needed. Do they have some for Eckmühl? Kirill Lokshin 06:43, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I found two great maps, one covering the location of forces as of Noon on April 19 and the other as of midnight, April 21-22, 1809. How do I load them into the article? The links are
[1] and [2] --Paco Palomo 07:01, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- You'll need to upload them into Wikipedia; then, you can use the regular [[Image:...]] tags to add them to the article. Kirill Lokshin 07:12, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Help!! For some reason only half of the article is now being displayed. When I go to "edit", the rest of the article is there, but it won't display it. Did I bunng something up?--Paco Palomo 08:43, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- You'll need to upload them into Wikipedia; then, you can use the regular [[Image:...]] tags to add them to the article. Kirill Lokshin 07:12, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind, I figured it out - I had not closed a footnote reference.--Paco Palomo 09:18, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Language box
editThe template seems to be, curiously enough, at {{User es}}. I'm not quite sure how the naming convention works in this case. Kirill Lokshin 18:25, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
