“Convicted Murderer”
editI feel the term convicted murderer is misleading because while his conviction is an objective fact, his status as a “murderer” is not.
I would argue in favor of changing this line to one of the two following options:
1) steven Avery is a man from Manitowoc County, Wisconsin who was convicted of murder on {x date}
OR
2) steven is best known for his role in the Netflix documentary series “Making a Murderer” which documents the circumstances surrounding and the events leading up to his murder conviction in the Theresa Halbach case.
I feel the second definition is more useful to a broader range of Wikipedia users because most people know him only because of Making a Murderer. It is, in many ways, his most relevant identifying characteristic.
However, at the very least I would request the phrasing be changed from the way it is now because it cannot be claimed objectively that he is a murderer. It can only be objectively claimed that he has been convicted of murder.
I would feel that way regardless of his case’s publicity, but there is SO much disagreement on whether or not he is guilty that I feel this is particularly relevant here. Papaicey (talk) 14:52, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
