It seems like you have a big job on your hands if you want to carry out changes as you did with Arthur Wharton. There are a lot of people described as blacks whom you classify as mixed race. I do not know how far you want to carry this. How would you describe Jerry Rawlings, former Ghanaian president? How about the many so-called black footballers/sportsmen in England such as Lewis Hamilton, Rio Ferdinand etc. You may have to get a bot to change the thousands of articles which do not use your classification. It may be wise to get some consensus before you carry on. Note that by your definition, Barack Obama is not black! Most people refer to him as such.
