Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Pat Burns MMMF. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 11:04, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've merely provided correct facts as I am a lifelong mufc fan with knowledge. This is ridiculous. I'm not promoting anyone or anything. I add value to correct information and get treated like some subversive agent. I'll pass trying to give facts that I have sourced and evidenced. It's quite clear its not welcomed as I have some perceived interest by running a fans charity. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 11:12, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

No one has said you are being subversive. But if you represent a charity involved with the disaster you are contributing about, we need to be aware of that. It doesn't mean you can't contribute at all. 331dot (talk) 11:15, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well William JE and Mjroots have certainly not made me feel welcome. I have no gain to make here, save provide the audience with facts. I know about the Majestic, I've been there, I know the party stated at the Metropol. Tributes have been made. Would add such value to this piece but... I also have updates on thd 60th in Munich, the new Memorial showcase there, the annual ceremony I lead there. I'll let my Communications Trustee try to bring a more acceptable form for you. I merely sought to update on where the party stayed. Thanks. Goodbye. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 11:20, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

You do not have to have something to gain to have a conflict of interest. Any close association with a topic is a conflict of interest. It does not mean that you cannot contribute, only that you do so correctly and with transparency. 331dot (talk) 14:48, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you 331dot. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 15:03, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@331dot So, having had my initial edits reversed and now providing corroboration for what I said in TALK. And being told I'm not permitted to edit as I have a COI. What happens now? Who makes the changes? Who looks at what I've said and the source evidence and decides if I'm a COI or not? You? WilliamJE? Mjroots? Who edits of tells me I still can't? Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 18:15, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, who edits or tells me I still can't. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 18:21, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please make edit requests(click for instructions) on the article talk page, detailing changes you feel are needed. Those changes should preferably be sourced to independent reliable sources. 331dot (talk) 18:33, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you @331dot Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 18:38, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I thank you for your help and advice @331dot. A PeeJay nos states he is loathe to accept any evidence corroborated but the mmmf website even though if is a reputable registered UK charity, which I happen to run and give my life to. I am afraid that the pompous attitudes, not yours, of the Wikipedia edit community are not to my taste. Valuable data and insight/information is now not going to be added as a result of the wiki police governance. I get standards must be adhered to. However I fail to see of accept that I have any COI. thanks again. Goodbye. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 20:58, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@331dot. My latest comments in talk refer. I thank you sir for your support. Your colleagues? Not so much. Ciao. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 05:40, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have responded to that comment if you are interested in seeing it. If not, best wishes. 331dot (talk) 10:28, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thank you. I've seen and replied. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 11:51, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Withdrawing from Wikipedia

edit

It's quite simple. Log out, and don't log back in again, ever. Just forget you ever had this account here. For legal reasons, your account cannot be deleted as contributions need to be attributed. I'm sorry you feel how you do about Wikipedia. I was open to seeing what you thought could be improved and how you thought it could be improved. You mentioned that there are sources for stuff on the MMMF website. My thoughts were that those sources would problably be usable for Wikipedia too. Wishing you all the best, whatever you decide to do. Mjroots (talk) 18:07, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I will do that. This is not the place for someone like me who will not tolerate snide comments about my integrity from anonymous people like WilliamJE and PeeJay. Oc others choose to use my data as source evidence for things that have been delivered in relation to Memorial issues on the page, then so be it but I will not be questioned by someone who has no know of understanding of what I do or what my intentions were. Ciao. Pat Burns MMMF (talk) 18:14, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have not questioned your integrity whatsoever. What I and others have pointed out is that you are linking to a site that you are heavily involved in, which is a violation of WP:COI whether you like it or not. It is not a matter of what your intentions are, it is simply a case of ensuring that Wikipedia's content is properly verifiable. Please try to understand that, and don't take things so personally. – PeeJay 19:11, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
