Speedy deletion nomination of Patricia M. Alexander, CIC
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Patricia M. Alexander, CIC, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. advice and warning
edit- Perhaps I can clarify things a little. According to our Terms of Use, particularly with respect to paid contributions without disclosure, it is necessary to disclose on-wiki, on your user age, and on the talk page of every relevant article, that you have a paid conflict of interest, when this should be the case. This is not optional.
- In addition, Wikipedia may not be used for the purposes of promotion-- we are not a directory. Our articles describe the subject, not advocate for it or praise it, and are directed not to prospective clients or contributors, but to the general public, who may want the sort of information found in encyclopdias. See also our rules on what makes an organization notable.
- Furthermore, you should be aware that the Wikipedia community strongly discourages articles written by individuals close to a subject because of the difficulty in writing objectively about your organization, yourself, your family, or your work, in line with Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline. The acceptable way to proceed is to declare on your user page that you have a conflict of interest with the subject, and then use WP:Articles for Creation. There you can have your text evaluated and worked on by other editors to ensure it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for inclusion. DGG ( talk ) 22:37, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
- With respect to your user page, there is a difference between describing your background, and praising yourself. You have gone too far in the later direction; please correct it. DGG ( talk ) 22:37, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
- To clarify the above, you may not post your CV on any page on Wikipedia, including user pages. Wikipedia may not be used for promotional purposes of anyone or anything. Seraphimblade Talk to me 22:59, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Your recent edits
editHello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Several explanations
editThis is a comment on your filling at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard, which has been properly closed. Several folks at various places have been giving you answers to some of your questions, but I thought I'd give you a more long-winded version:
- It would appear that Johanna nominated at least some of your articles for speedy deletion, but she did not delete them herself. The administrators who reviewed those nominations and decided to delete the articles were:
- You say that you were not given reasons for deletion, but you were and those reasons were:
- All four articles were deleted under speedy deletion criteria G11-click here to read it.
- One-Arm and International were also deleted under speedy deletion criteria A7-click here to read it.
- Your filing at DRN was closed because DRN does not handle matters which have their own built-in resolution processes. For deletions, read the instructions given here. The first step in that process is contacting the administrators who actually deleted the articles (i.e. those that I've listed, above). If they do not respond or will not restore the articles, you can appeal the matter to deletion review but you cannot skip the first step and go straight to deletion review.
- You say at DRN that you don't have the text of at least a couple of those articles. Those same administrators will be happy, more than likely, to be able to give you the text of the deleted articles so that you can continue to try to improve them even if they are unwilling to restore them. They'll explain how they're going to do that. Do not merely use that text to restore the article without correcting the problems which they raised; all that will do is to cause it to be deleted again and if you persist in it you may be blocked from editing.
- Before you bother to do that, however, you also say at DRN, "All of the information about these 3 pages is verifiable at their websites" but at least as to the two articles deleted under A7 (and I rather suspect that the other two also suffer from this problem) you need to read the Notability policy and the primary sources policy. An article must be supported by more than one reliable sources as defined by Wikipedia as third-party sources which are independent of the organization and which have a reputation for reliability and accuracy. The existence of such sources is what Wikipedia uses to determine whether or not something is important enough to be in the encyclopedia. An organization's or person's own website is a primary source and articles cannot be based only on primary sources.
- Be sure to carefully read what was written in the "advice and warning" section, above.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 18:49, 31 August 2015 (UTC) (DRN volunteer)
Thank You
editThank your for recapping all of this in one place and advising who I need to contact on each page. While I did receive clear notification on my User Page and my Patricia M. Alexander page is was not aware that it was affecting these other pages. The One-Arm Dove Hunt page and the International Child Amputee pages were created by others years ago, so even though I have read the references you provided, I am still not clear why they would have been deleted, but I will ask each of those individuals. PatAlexander 19:47, 31 August 2015 (UTC)PatAlexander
- perhaps I can help, the Patricia M. Alexander, CIC page was a straight advertisement written in the first person, e.g., "I feel that my diverse experience enables me to be an asset to my clients." There is nothing usable on that page, and I will not be emailing it. The best advice I can give you is to not attempt to write your autobiography as a WP article.
- I nominated the other two. An encycopedia article is directed to he general reader, who may have seen a reference to something and wants information on it. A promotional article is directed to a potential client or contributor, telling them why they ought to patronize or contribute to the person or organization involved. While a brief dispassionate description of the purpose of a charity is encyclopedic information, an emotional appeal is promotional. A detailed description of individual events is normally intended to induce the reader to participate, and is also promotional.
- the Olney Amputee Dove Hunt article is a pure advertisement: e.g. "We want you to all return, bring new amputees and continue to enjoy the family and community you have built. Please note that our name is Olney Amputee Dove Hunt. We are so looking forward to seeing you all again." In addition, it gives no indication why this small-town local event could possibly be regarded as important. There is nothing usable in the article, and there is no reason to mail you a copy.
- the One-Arm Dove Hunt article (the earlier name for the OADH) is an emotional appeal, limiting itself to personal details about the founder and how it arose from a local joke. . It gives one source, a WSJ article that is unlinked, and is not sufficient by itself for notability. If there are other references, they'll be local papers, which are indiscriminate, and don't show notability either. I doubt very much it will be even possible to write a non promotional article. If you can tell me you've found additional good non-local references, I'll mail you the current text, tho almost none of it will be of any value. There is no point working on an article that is sure to be rejected.
- International Child Amputee Network is a possible subject. The current version is not acceptable, however: Statements like " Joyce and Bill Baughn knew how hard it was going to be to spread the word about I-CAN and seeing the implications that the Internet had to offer, Joyce and Bill decided to use the Internet as the basis to run the organization from. " are not encyclopedic content--they're personal reminiscences written to inspire emotion. The bulk of the article is a list of other related organizations and people, some of which are quite notable. Using them this way is a technique for implying this is equally important, which is not likely to be the case. As for the notability of this one, there are no references other than its own web site. You need references providing substantial coverage from third-party independent reliable sources, not press releases or mere announcements. Since this organization is specified as having arisen from the One Arm DoveHunt, which is an non-notable event, it seems written to support that article, and is likely to be equally non-notable. Again, if you can find suitable references, I will email you a copy. Le me know on my user talk page. DGG ( talk ) 20:52, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Response
editI totally understand the reasons on Patricia M. Alexander, CIC. I also understand what you are explaining to me on the other articles. The question I will need to answer for the One Arm Dove Hunt and International Child Amputee network is why these were allowed to be on Wikipedia for so many years and then suddenly deleted.
I am working with Seraphimblade on providing the information request for these two particular organizations. I appreciate your time and patience in explaining this to me.

- Hi--I responded to you on my user talk page. What probably happened is that the articles went unreviewed or given a one-look new page patrol, leading to them going for years without being deleted. It's not that common, but stuff like this can go uncorrected, like there was an instance of vandalism that lasted for five years once. Also, just so you know, taking someone to DRN, ANI, or the like is considered a very aggressive move around here, especially when there's not really a dispute to be had. :) Johanna (formerly BenLinus1214)talk to me!see my work 23:56, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks you for your feedback and insight. I was in a panic when everything went away so fast. Now that it has been explained I am working to sort out how to put these back up if warranted. I apologize for going to DRN.
