I am just leaving for Ottawa right now, but just a quick note that the story can still be found where archived, so best to just include the new url instead :) Sherurcij (talk) (Terrorist Wikiproject) 12:33, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you have the complete text of the Villager's letter, it would be suitable for WikiSource, and then a link in VK's article to it. Or do you just mean mentioning it? I thought we already mentioned his mother's phonecall, but apparently not, so I definitely agree :) I feel According to police files, Vladimir now joined a terrorist training camp in Ingushetia. should use a different word than "terrorist training camp", and should probably be mentioned as part of Despite being a wanted criminal, Vladimir was released by the police shortly after. Shamil Basayev has claimed that this was when Vladimir was given the choice of prison or helping to infiltrate the Chechen warlord's movement.[2] since they are referencing the same thing. (VK's entry into Basayev's system, in 2003, after his brother's death). I think I am confused about when Anatoly died, but you are right, it was after Borik's funeral, since VK said he wanted him to die. Sherurcij (talk) (Terrorist Wikiproject) 15:55, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you are willing to translate the letter yourself, then it can go as a Translated text to Wikisource, and assuming there's also a .ru Wikisource, the untranslated letter can go there.

Do you have a name for The journalist asked the Militia minister of Northern Ossetia whether the freeing of VK proved that he had powerful protectors in the local police department (ROVD). "I do not exclude that possibility" who that Minister is?

Similarly, Vladimir did not arrive at the funeral on his own, but in the company of two bearded friends, one of whom villagers later recognized amongh the dead Beslan hostage takers, do we have a name for him? I hate referencing anonymous people. Aleksandra's earlier marriage was presumably to Vladimir's father, no?

About the word "terrorist", I much prefer terms like hostagetaker, hijacker, etcetera. Basayev, like Ibn al-Khattab whose article I was bemoaning earlier today, is called "a warlord". He became known for Killing 50-100 Russian soldiers, now is that "terrorism" or "warfare"? It's a difficult line, so as much as possible, I prefer not to call anybody "terrorist" unless necessary. and, Pan G., you have not completed the Afd for Polfbroekstraat. Check out the article and WP:AfD to see how to continue, if you shouldn't know what to do. Fram 20:14, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Geographic locations

edit

Hi,

I believe you completely, and understand your frustration -- the problem is that Wikipedia historically has had a very liberal attitude to real places. There were once long arguments over whether vacant spits of land off Norway, just a few meters wide, deserved articles. From what you say, these unimportant places could probably be PRODed (see WP:PROD), but I can't speedy them in good faith. The WP:CSD are deliberately narrow, and none apply here. In particular, the definition of "nonsense" is very narrow (see CSD G1). Unfortunately, these things are similar enough to genuine content such that the rules require a five day wait through PROD. Al-Qaida on Chechen article

edit

Hi Pan, i was about to change the idiotic title "Al-qaida and pro-war" to pro-separatist web sites when you made the change "pro-umarov." Thank you very much. I think there are lots of Russian nationalist POV pushers on that article. We have to maintain NPOV and respect the most important pillar of Wiki. There was no indication on web sites of being Al-Qaida associates or having pro-war views. Prague Watchdog is one of the most respected Human Rights Watch organizations in Europe (and their web site was under "Al-Qaida and pro-war"). Thanks again. Ldingley 20:42, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear Pan:

Como tale vous? Merci for your message on my page.

I guess I got carried away on the vote page, but that's because of all the anti-hispanic things going on in this side of the United States. I truly believe we are in a moment where we are making history, like the overturning of the Berlin Wall or Apartheid government in the late 1980's and early 1990's but let me tell you a lot of people don't like that and they even threaten to shoot Hispanics who walk in front of their houses, and so it wouldn't surprise me that an anti-Hispanic would try to erase articles and lists about things that mean so much to our culture, like Tango.

I did over react but hopefully my opinion can deter some real racists from making this a personal site where to perform their "duties".

I hope you understand. Once again thanks and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, Antonio Champ d' Elysse Statue Martin

I don't know if it was him indeed, what I know for sure, is that it wasn't me. And how do I know? See, I wrote to Telex "exeis gramma", after pressing the plus sign on top, with no heading. "exeis gramma" would be correctly transliterated from Greek as "éhis grámma" (έχεις γράμμα) meaning "you have a letter" (or mail).

When I typed that, I had no idea what was above. What I only know, is that I notified Telex for e-mail. That's all. Good luck. :NikoSilver: 19:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nemmersdorf/Evac of E. Prussia

edit

I read Mayakovskoye article, I don't see any place where the credibility of neutral observers is questioned. I actually see it reinforcing my viewpoint. But then again that article also needs reworked as it is full of weasel words and POV problems.

--Jadger 03:31, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

that doesn't really attack their credibility though, it more reinforces the idea that the Nazis made some of it up in a propoganda ruse. it was a massacre, the total death count is not the only thing that matters when it comes to being called horrendous. Personally, I see all intention murder (as well as the rapes and tortures) of civilians as horrendous.

it is indeed POV, for instance you or a previous editor have written "Nazi propaganda machine disseminated its description of the event", instead of the more neutral Nazi propoganda ministry.

you (or someone else) have also written "as an example of the alleged worst behavior in Eastern Germany." Cases of rapes and murder by the Soviets in Historical eastern Germany is well documented, they are not "alleged".

also here: "his has been re-inforced by people repeating the accusations who would not normally be associated with Nazi propaganda, for example the post war co-publisher of the weekly Die Zeit, Marion Gräfin Dönhoff,..." that was in 1962, before the new evidence was found, and not to mention that they are not "accusations" but the massacre actually did happen, if not on as large of a scale as the Propogandaministerium claimed.

--Jadger 15:59, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree, our opinions are very much the same but our viewpoints are slightly different. alas, I do not have much time on my hands either, but together we should work to bring the articles up to snuff.

Kazachstan Music Competition

edit

see talk contribution from user nishkid (above). It looks without the articles the main article about the TV show becomes substanceless and boring. All of the pages use layout, include a picture. There is no direct guideline for WP:NOTABILITY, means, it is possible to consider an article noteable, even if it does not meet the criteria for WP:MUSIC. My suggestion is to keep them for now, and reconsider deletion if they do not improve/expand. There are much worse articles about music records. Editors are so scared about the content, they do not suggest them for deletion. Including me. I take this topic serious in terms to establish guidelines for music records, in extension of WP:MUSIC. It makes a difference if an article is pleasant, or unpleasant (though this is not descision making). Maybe they are more famous soon... User:Yy-bo 17:58, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ghirla Arbitration Case

edit

Hello Pan, please be as bold and annoying as you wish! I'm glad you enjoyed my rantings and found some virtue in my arguements. I felt I first had to set the record straight regarding Wiglaf's departure, since he is no longer here to do so himself. He is entitled to that much respect and dignity at least. His reasons are personal and private. But suffice it to say, the article on the Varangians, was not the last reason he had to stay. Then I, suddenly, found myself defending Ghirla and (by extension) others like him...cantankerous, quarrelsome but still great contributors (you know the type;). This group has become a persecuted minority around here. I don't care for all of Ghirla's behavior, I'm sure he feels likewise towards me, but I detest scapegoating, kanagaroo courts, inquisitions and witch hunts far, far more! So I will gladly serve as his Voltarian Advocate by defending to the death his right to be a vodka-pissing asshole and a great editor. Given what the Clerk of the court seems to think of me [2] I'm surprised he hasn't yet "conservatively trimmed", my stements already. But fear not, the original is still in the history and diffs, as well as saved elsewhere, EXO-Pedia if you catch my drift. Should the editing task fall to me, I'll take care not to prune off or tone down too much. As for User:Molobo, check his contribs. For a "Banned" users he seems quite active of late...not to mention the absence of that scary "THIS USER HAS BEEN BANNED" sign on his page. I check in occasionally to see what the old boy is up to. I'm truly amazed he's lasted so long. At the rate things are going, he will win by simply outlating all his foes. Maybe that is his strategy...suffice to say I hope it fails. Thanks again for stopping by, for the compliments and helpful suggestions.--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 00:17, 11 September 2006 (UTC)(Or simply Ghost, to his friends;)Reply
