It's appropriately referenced, drawing on relevant peer-reviewed literature (primary and secondary), several of which focus on Scrooge effect as the primary topic (helping to establish notability). I wondered whether it was a phenomenon known by another name, but looking at prosocial behavior and terror management theory, it doesn't seem that this is the case. It would be very helpful to link t from other pages (such as the ones I've mentioned) to better integrate it into Wikipedia. I hope that your course was helpful!
