- My addition is reflected in the seal of the school and its long history. Here is a link in which the school itself uses its name, Marshall-Wythe School of Law -- https://scholarship.law.wm.edu/history/ History of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law | Archives and Law School History | William & Mary Law School (wm.edu) Pax Apollo (talk) 14:03, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. It would have been very helpful if you had provided that evidence with your initial edits.
- Do you happen to know of any good sources that explicitly discuss when and why the institution changed its name? At a glance, it doesn't seem to be well documented in the materials on that website or anywhere else on the school's website. This seems like something that should be included in the school's article but we need good sources. Thanks! ElKevbo (talk) 02:16, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
- Good morning (or whatever time it is for you). I don't believe it has changed its name. I think "William & Mary Law School" is more or less a colloquialism. I think the way you have it worded now is a reasonable way to set it forth, and consistent with the available information. I can reach out to an administrator there to see if he can shed any additional light. 98.203.2.202 (talk) 15:32, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
- If you or a colleague can direct us to some useful reliable sources about the institution's name, that would be very helpful! Thanks. ElKevbo (talk) 02:02, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
- From Jaime Welch-Donahue, Director of Communications, Office of Advancement: There has not been an official name change. Sometime in the early 2000s, the Law School started using “William & Mary Law School” because of the university’s tremendous name recognition both in the U.S. and abroad.
- “Marshall-Wythe,” as Rob [Kaplan] noted, remains in use. Some examples: the highest honor conferred by our faculty is the “Marshall-Wythe Medallion”; we have a philanthropic membership group called the “Marshall-Wythe Society”; and the Law School’s associated foundation is the “Marshall-Wythe School of Law Foundation.” Of additional note, the John Marshall Award and George Wythe Award are among the select awards given at graduation for exceptional service. 98.203.2.202 (talk) 16:42, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
