Comics Guaranty LLC

edit

Hello Peregrine Fisher. I finally completed what I consider to be a reasonably unbiased draft of the Comics Guaranty LLC article. I put out a couple of requests (one RfC, one peer review) in an attempt to get other eyes to take a look at the article. But, I haven't noticed a response, so I thought I'd seek input from others who have been interested in the article. Would you mind taking a look at it? Thanks, GentlemanGhost (talk) 00:10, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA Nom question

edit

Hi there, just wanted to say that though the response to your question about Comics Guaranty LLC was accurate, I thought it was a little curt. The GAN process is swamped in a perpetual backlog at the moment, so I'm afraid reviewers are more focussed on efficiency that patience. That said, I at least appreciate your taking the time to ask for clarification before nominating—if you have any other questions about the good article criteria (or feel like reviewing a nomination yourself!) please don't hesitate to ask on my talk page. --jwandersTalk 09:57, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hannah Montana S01E08.JPG)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hannah Montana S01E08.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lizzie McGuire episode 10.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Lizzie McGuire episode 10.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 12:47, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, as I mentioned to you a couple of months ago (or so) I have a wiki for pop-cult topics (sports, TV, fashion, merchandice, products, movies, people, etc.). But I need administrators and editors. So once again I extent to you an invitation to become an admin at my site. The training process is very simple.--20-dude (talk) 07:32, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Instead of trying to keep things from getting torn down, why not help build something up? Fair use rationale for Image:Amaenaideyo_DVD_3.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Amaenaideyo_DVD_3.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 22:30, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Uninvolved editor

edit

Well, I guess you are an uninvolved editor. Would you mind removing the off-topic personal attacks against me from the Fitna article discussion page, please? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 05:49, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Give me a list of sentences to remove and I'll remove them. I don't think it's good to just revert comments, there should be some kind of a paper (diff) trail for people to follow. If only some of the sentences from a comment warrant removal, it's good if the other sentences can be left behind with a note. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:58, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would simply remove the ones that are personal attacks or over-the-top uncivil. Another user, Arnoutf, suggested that the anon keep the personal talk off-page. Since the checkuser I filed on him is backed up, he's walking around feeling a bit untouchable. I am guessing that that's why he's getting his shots in now, before he's blocked. But then, that's just my take on it. You will note that few, if any of his posts get a reply from me. That's me, thinking that if I just ignore the guy, he will go away.
However, that doesn't appear to be happening. He's now filed a complaint with AN/I. Gish, he seem sto know a whole lot about how WIkipedia works for a newbie, doesn't he? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 07:07, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I reverted my reversion of you. I don't really think the comments were all that bad, but if they were done by a sock puppet they need to go. They weren't very helpful either, so not much is lost with their removal. You're keeping better track of this than I am, so if it turns out that they weren't necessarily done by a sock, I ask you to reinstate them, or at least whatever parts of the comments you don't find offensive with a comment and diff describing what happened. I'll add a diff as well so people can see what we're talking about. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 07:19, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
      • Sir: My comments in Fitna_Talk were a direct response to, and followed, this baseless accusation:

::Lol, well I think that's a pretty optimistic spin on things there, sock. Maybe you should wait until the actual conclusion of matter. We don't really need weather updates. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 01:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

  • I'll note for the record that User Arcayne has never offered a single diff as evidence to support his effort to ban me. As such, I please ask you to reconsider your decision and place my civil rebuttal back into the record. Thank you.75.57.165.180 (talk) 07:27, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yikes. I don't really know who's right here, so that's why I reverted myself. In my opinion the comments shouldn't have been removed, but I don't really know enough about it to do a bunch of reverts. I'm hoping that by posting the diffs on the page some other interested but uninvolved editors can take a look and come to an informed decision. If you put them back, I won't revert you. Just leave a comment and a diff explaining what you did. If you don't put them back, hopefully someone else will take a look at it. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 07:36, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I am sorry I got you involved in the minor maelstrom, Peregrine. I think a lot of it is going to die down now, since the AN/I the anon filed after the reverts pretty much ended up the way it should have. Maybe he will want to explore DR until we get the results of the RfCU back, but then, maybe not. Anyway, I bet you're sorry you got involved. The next beer/frosty beverage is on me, for all your trouble. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 18:08, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's cool. I'll take a sixer of Pabst. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 20:42, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ugh, how about I just hit you in the mouth with a wet paper bag of hops, and we call it even? Dude, choose a manly beer, not a beer for folk who've smoked so much that their tastebuds have given up the ghost! lol - Arcayne (cast a spell) 19:32, 11 April 2008 (UTC) (who drinks Bass or Guiness, and Micheloeb if pressed)Reply
Actually, make it a sixer of Pabst and a pack of Old Golds. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 20:06, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

'No Free Image' placeholder graphic

Hi! I saw your contribution to this debate. I wonder if you can tell me if the Free Images Project is still active, and if so whether the issue is within the scope of the project? Thanks in advance. --Kleinzach (talk) 04:30, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's not very active. A few people still probably watch the page, but it isn't going to draw a bunch of new eyeballs to the debate. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 04:34, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
But the subject is within the project bailiwick right? Some people want us to discuss it in WP:RFC but that sets it up as a dispute and we'd prefer to avoid that . . . Thanks. --Kleinzach (talk) 05:19, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it's active enough to be the central place to discuss it. I don't have any idea to lower the dispute level. Classic WP. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 05:44, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK. I'm working on another idea. --Kleinzach (talk) 08:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please consider taking the AGF Challenge

edit

I would like to invite you to consider taking part in the AGF Challenge which has been proposed for use in the RfA process [1] by User: Kim Bruning. You can answer in multiple choice format, or using essay answers, or anonymously. You can of course skip any parts of the Challenge you find objectionable or inadvisable.--Filll (talk) 14:16, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your comments over at the article on "Expelled". I appreciate that there are pro-evolution editors that don't feel the need to write "set the record straight" pamphlets on all Intelligent Design or creationism related pages. GusChiggins21 (talk) 04:54, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I don't know what to do about the POV pushers. They're misinterpreting NPOV but of course they think they're doing the right thing. I tried to find some quote in the NPOV policies and elsewhere that would explain it to them but it doesn't say much that's useful. It seems like some of the people on the talk page are starting to understand it a little better. We'll see. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 05:26, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
You've completely restored my faith in wikipedia, and the human race. Any ideas what we can do to fix this? Seems like everyone is overly afraid of fundies...GusChiggins21 (talk) 05:33, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I added my ideas to the talk page. It's going to take a while for the (talk page) controversy to die down. I think as more (currently) uninvolved editors show up the situation will improve.
I think wikipedia has its own version of fundies. ;-) - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:09, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Peer review

I saw your name on the Peer review volunteers list and I want to ask if you could look at Avatar: The Last Airbender (Season 1) and possible give some advice on it. Thanks a lot. Parent5446 (t n c k e l) 02:26, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

POV problems for 15 months. Clearing out the category. Sceptre (talk) 20:25, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think that POV tag is for a different version. There's an editor who comes in once a week or so and adds a bunch of text, which I and some other editors then revert. There was a big discussion on the talk page and the version with the content you removed was the one we decided to keep since it had refs. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 20:30, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I reverted Sceptre's removal, and made a new section on talk page at Talk:Comics_Guaranty_LLC#criticism_sections_are_allowed. If you are sure that the POV problems that cause the insertion of the tag are more than probably solved, then by all means remove the tag, and then ask on talk page for people to provide ay further POV problems for re-adding of the tag. If none of the problems are from the old tag, then re-add the tag with the date of the current date instead of the old date, since the problems causing the old tag were already solved. --Enric Naval (talk) 22:51, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I gave it a bit more of thought, and I went and removed the tag myself [2] --Enric Naval (talk) 22:54, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request for Mediation?

Hello - I am alerting you that we are preparing a Request for Mediation regarding Gavin.collins. BOZ (talk) 03:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:A Case of Rape screenshot.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

The line I removed is a truism, and unsourced anyway. Any city in the entire United States will have a population whose political views vary. There's no particular reason for us to point it out here. FCYTravis (talk) 07:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's cited lower in the article. We arent supposed to cite stuff in the lede, just summarize stuff in the body. There's a reason why why CJ's more liberal and conservative than your average place. I'm stopping WPing for the night (I think) but I'd like to talk about it tomorrow. You don't happen to know about CJ personally do you? It's where I was born but I haven't been able to find another pedian who's heard of it. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 07:34, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
