Welcome
editHello, PeterYatesVT and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students.
If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.
Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.
Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}}
on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.
We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Dr Aaij (talk) 16:50, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

September 2018
editHello, I'm FlightTime. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you unlinked one or more redlinks from Australian Cattle Dog. Often redlinks can be helpful, so we don't remove them just because they are red. They help improve Wikipedia by attracting editors to create needed articles.
In addition, clicking on the "What links here" special link (in the Wikipedia Toolbox at left) on a missing article shows how many—and which—articles depend on that article being created. This can help prioritize article creation. Redlinks are useful! Please, only remove a redlink if you are pretty sure that it is to a non-notable topic and not likely ever to be created. Thanks! - FlightTime (open channel) 18:45, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- Also, it has been fifteen days since you did anything here. That is not good. Dr Aaij (talk) 02:03, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
Image without license
editUnspecified source/license for File:PrattGin&Creek Painting.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:PrattGin&Creek Painting.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

- For the Shunnarah picture, go to that image's page, and click edit source--now remove this line, {{Di-no license|date=26 September 2018}} , and add this:
== {{int:filedesc}} == {{Information |Description={{en|[[Billboard for Alexander Shunnarah, Alabama}} |Source={{own}} |Date=2012-02-25 |Author=[[PeterYatesVT]] |Permission={{cc-by-sa-3.0}} |other_versions= }}
Put in the proper date inside that code; I copied this from elsewhere. Then save it. Next time, fill out the license part first: that would save all of us, especially me, a lot of time. Dr Aaij (talk) 21:57, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
Draft
editI moved your draft to User:PeterYatesVT/Pratt Gin Company, and I will add it to the list on my talk page, which you forgot to do. As for the two notices above: if you don't take care of those issues, one way or another, the images will be deleted. You took the picture of the billboard? OK, look up. Dr Aaij (talk) 21:54, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hey, look at this. You overwrote your classmate's review. Dr Aaij (talk) 01:06, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
* Wow, I didn't notice that, how did that happen? Because I wrote my review and it didn't show I was doing that. PeterYatesVT (talk) 17:52, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hi! Just wanted to drop a quick note and say good job on the draft. My notes are to continue searching for sources and that I changed the lead sentence. You used "was" instead of "is" - the word was is typically used on here to signify that someone is deceased, so with people like Kocer who no longer do something, we'd say instead "Ryan Kocer is a former wrestler". It's just phrasing, is all. Good job overall! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:09, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
DYK
editHi! Just wanted to drop a quick note - when you created the DYK nomination for Ryan Kocer, you didn't add the source to the end of the nomination. Tagging Dr Aaij, to make sure that others nominating does this as well. ReaderofthePack (。◕‿◕。) 19:12, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- Ha, I came here to say the exact same thing. User:ReaderofthePack, thanks--I hope he's the only one in the class, but I'm checking em all out. Do you remember who that Australian editor was, a few years ago, who helped write all these articles on disabled Olympians? Dr Aaij (talk) 23:46, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- User:Dodger67, I remember you were active with Paralympics and things like that. Can you give this editor a few pointers? Like, toward WikiProjects, and how to try and expand the article some (without doing it for him of course). Also, I think this well is about to run dry--do you have any suggestions for a nice, juicy article that needs writing? Preferably NOT a biography of a recent person--I'm hoping my students will write articles that require sourcing from books and academic journals. In other words, old stuff! Thanks so much, Dr Aaij (talk) 23:53, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, thanks for the ping. You could raise the issue with WP:WikiProject Paralympics. LauraHale and Tony.naar are among the leading editors involved with the Australian Paralympic history project. For topics not strictly related to the Paralympics, WP:WikiProject Disability can often help. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:08, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Roger. PeterYatesVT, you should go look at these projects, and that will help you find examples of other, similar articles. Along the way you might see whether there are specific things, specific to athletes etc. that you can add to your article. And then move on and write the next one! DYK for Ryan Kocer
editOn 24 November 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ryan Kocer, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ryan Kocer won the Best Male Athlete with a Disability ESPY Award in 2008 after losing his left leg the year before? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ryan Kocer. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ryan Kocer), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. How to be Drawn
editHi! I have some notes for you on your article. First off, good choice on topic - this looks to definitely be a notable collection!
- This needs to have the formatting worked on. The article's general layout (and contents) should match similar poetry collection articles like the one on Oh Pray My Wings Are Gonna Fit Me Well. I've done a little formatting to this end, mostly rearranging a little and fixing the list of poems. One thing I will note is that there really shouldn't be a section on publishing per se - this should be covered in the lead and the infobox, so there shouldn't be a need for a section on its own unless it was republished or if there are a lot of different formats.
- Be very, very careful with the themes section. With this we can only state themes that have been clearly identified by a reliable source, like the author, a critic, or scholar. It looks like you're doing this, but just be cautious.
- The awards section should be expanded to a reviews and awards section, since this needs more coverage of the collection's reception.
This is a little general as far as guides about book articles go, but it will cover what you need to have in the article and what to look for. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:37, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
- Shalor (Wiki Ed), I think I got the DYK problem worked out. PeterYates, in that Themes section, it's a good idea to look over your references again and to try to cite the individual claims, rather than having two notes all the way at the end--you recall that when I asked you you weren't sure which of the two verified the Ellison claim. In general the article and writing need some cleaning up, and the lead needs to have the big or biggest award mentioned--finalist for the NBA should probably be in there. Non-free rationale for File:How To Be Drawn.JPG
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:How To Be Drawn.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:20, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Peter! I went ahead and fixed the image for you - so go ahead and disregard the notice that was sent. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:45, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
