Dear Sirs,

for professional and scientific reasons I would like to have ALL my WP pages DELETED, meaning the “Pascale Hummel” pages in the different existing languages (French, English, German, Italian, Spanish). I have already tried to discuss this (on the web) with some administrators, but I am afraid it won’t lead anywhere (except to turmoil!), since these people may misinterpret my request. I do not want to put myself in danger by doing something wrong (too often, alas, innocent gestures and behaviors are misinterpreted on WP, and innocent-honest contributors are blamed as “vandals”).

As the attached documents show, I am the only person of my scientific team to have a WP-page. And this is something which 1) makes me uncomfortable and 2) could jeopardize my professional future (which may change in the next months): I do not want my colleagues to feel humiliated or get jealous, or some others unwilling to hire me, because of this “unfair” treatment. I have been thinking about that for a while, and now I believe it is time to articulate this request.

There are enough (objective) reasons to delete these pages; these reasons are the following ones, and I trust you will agree with them: – mostly, the fact that I am NOT the head (= Pierre Caspard) of my scientific team, who has no WP-page, – no colleague of mine has a WP-page, and this gap is unfair, I do not want to have to cope with the consequences of this gap – I am one of the youngest of my team: there is no reason why I should be treated like a “star” (or a famous person) – there is no professional reason why my name should have a WP-page and my colleagues not – the content of the “Pascale Hummel” article is poor and does not provide any important-useful stuff – the content of this article is more or less a copyviolating of the content of my professional site (INRP, see the link) – the links are uninteresting and uselessly duplicate the content of my professional site – since September the Institute to which my team belongs (INRP) has a new director (Jacques Moret, who has no WP-page!), and this person wants all the staff to be treated in the same way (one professional page for each one on the official site of our official webpages, and nothing else); for this reason I have also deleted already all the professional contents of my personal blog – my position inside this team is “special”: I do not have the same status as my colleagues (as the absence of an email address linked to my name shows); I am actually “linked to” this team but I am paid by another one! – the previous reasons do more or less violate the WP-rules – the existence of this article more or less can jeopardize my professional future (especially in the times we live in, where people are easily getting jealous and eagerly mind such differences) – people interested in my work can find all the information they need on the Web, my professional pages and in libraries catalogs: there is no need for a WP-page – there will be time enough in the next decade, or later, to create a page, if someone (but not me) thinks that what I have accomplished is worth mentioning on WP; so far, my name and my work do not have an “encyclopedic” size and therefore do not fit the WP-rules

I truly hope you will do the best and delete these pages as soon as possible. I am writing this letter two days before an important professional meeting about the future of our team (and my own situation)…

Sorry, but I'm not a representative of Wikimedia and thus cannot submit any request to the board. Personally, I find it somewhat antagonizing that you post the same message across several wikis to apparently random people without even trying to find out how those wikis work (e.g. WP:Deletion). --Peter Putzer (talk) 12:32, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
