Macedonia and related issues

Regarding the article you've created which is up for deletion, you might want to read WP:NPOV before you add more to it. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, the object of the exercise is to present all views on Macedonia and Macedonians, rather than simply rubbishing those which don't make sense to you. There is already an article on the Republic of Macedonia which covers a fair bit of this controversy, so perhaps you might want to focus your energies there. BigHaz 06:12, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I do eventually want to create articles, but being my first time I was only having a dabble around. In future text (such as this article) will be written in the discussion pages.

Warning and explanation

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.
Two points to bear in mind when editing that (or any other) page:

• Do not under any circumstances change the link on an AfD template. They are there to enable any and all users who wish to take part in the discussion about the page to find their way to it. Changing the link makes this process very difficult indeed and is considered to be vandalism, about which we take a very dim view here.
• The fact that the page is or is not original work has very little to do with whether or not it should be here in the first place. Putting up a message saying that it isn't original work is not going to result in getting it kept, as the discussion deals with whether or not the encyclopedia needs a collection of quotations on an issue which are already present elsewhere.
  

As I said earlier, there are other articles on Macedonia and also on Greece which you are most welcome to edit. If you want to explain at the AfD debate why you think this particular article needs to be kept, you're also most welcome to do that. What you are not welcome to do is vandalise links. To take me as an example, click on my username and then click the tab marked "Discussion" to reach my Talk page. Then click either "Edit This Page" or the plus-sign and leave whatever comments/questions you want. Hi...noticed in the AfD on "We are slavs...." that you said you were dabbling around a bit. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the sandbox here. That's a good place to try out things if you want to experiment with Wikipedia. Of course, if you're writing an article, you might want to work on drafts some other way (since other users use the Sandbox and blank stuff out there regularly), but it's a good place to try out things if you're not sure how they work. User Page / Text Of Your Article

I was just thinking, in case you'd like to move the text of your soon-to-be-deleted article to your user page, here's a direct paste of what you had on the article that is being deleted... you can copy the following over to your user page if you desire to:

Risto Stefov claims that the People who live in the landlocked country of the Former Yugoslavia Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), are the decedents of Alexander the Great. However Slavs settled in the Balkans in the sixth century AD, where as Alexander the Great rained from the fourth century BC, and spoke a form of Ancient Greece (Hellenic), yet the people living in the current "Geographic Macedonia" speak Slavic.

How can a Slavic speaking people be decedents of an Ancient Hellenic speaking people? If the current residents of FYROM (who 26% are Albanian), speak a language so close to Bulgarian (which is similar to Croatian, Serbian etc), does that make the rest of the Balkans decedents of Alexander the Great?

1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiro_Gligorov. The first President of FYROM said that "..... we are Slavs" This quote can also be found in the Foreign Information Service Daily Report, Eastern Europe, February 26, 1992, p. 35.

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek-Italian_War#Aftermath. This makes reference to Winston Churchills famous quote "Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks".

3) http://www.macedonia.info/FALLACIESANDFACTS.htm. Under Fact#1 point C, the following quote is sited - On 22 January 1999, Ambassador of the FYROM to USA, Ljubica Achevska gave a speech on the present situation in the Balkans. In answering questions at the end of her speech Mrs. Acevshka said: "We do not claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great … Greece is Macedonia’s second largest trading partner, and its number one investor. Instead of opting for war, we have chosen the mediation of the United Nations, with talks on the ambassadorial level under Mr. Vance and Mr. Nemitz." In reply to another question about the ethnic origin of the people of FYROM, Ambassador Achevska stated that "we are Slavs and we speak a Slav language.”

The above is perfectly permissable content to have on your user page, but doesn't qualify as encyclopedic. Just wanted to paste it to you so you didn't lose it. Again, your user page is accessible here.

A Bit More About The Sandbox

The concept of the main Wikipedia sandbox is confusing sometimes, and it's not always the best way to experiment with creating pages, since other people are constantly editing it, too. If you want to experiment with creating pages, you can create them as subpages to your userpage instead. For instance, going to User:Philhellenism/sandbox will provide you with a blank page that you can play around with and save without actually adding articles to the main namespace. Nobody else will edit it, since it's your page, and when you have perfected the article (and if you are sure it conforms to article standards), you can copy and paste it into the page where you want it.

For example, I used "User:Kafziel/sandbox" to create a list of episodes of the series "Thief". That way I had plenty of time to experiment and make changes to the page before actually submitting it as an article. Once I had it how I wanted it, I copied the code and pasted it at List of Thief episodes. You can do the same thing with any article you want to experiment with, and that will avoid having them nominated for deletion by other editors.

Pyrros Dimas

There is no dispute about Pyrros Dimas' origin. So, it's needless to post a question about it in his article. Sthenel 23:55, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

The article has him down as "Albanian" with "Greek decent". Which is incorrect. I also added "Northern Epirus" in the article", and the point that was being made was posed in the form of a question Φilhellenism 00:02, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

It's clear in the article that he is Greek but he was born in Albania. We cannot replace the country of birth with a region which can be percepted as claim on this country or anything.. Images slaughtered

Sorry, I've had to slaughter a number of your images (saved a few others though by marking them as PD-old). Please note that you cannot have non-free images on your user page; that a photograph doesn't become yours to release just by your copying (embossing) from it; and that articles on living persons can't normally have a non-free image if it is being used merely as a portrait to show what they look like. Also, images you claim to be PD must have source information that really shows where they come from, who made them and how old they are. Yeah, I know, that's image policy, life is hard. Hey, you uploaded Image:Evangelos Kofos.jpg for the fourth time now. It doesn't work, just read the policies (WP:NONFREE). I must warn you, please don't re-upload it again, or I'd have to block you. If you want to do something more useful, you could try and write to the guy (or his website managers) and ask them for a free release of a photograph, chances are they'd give you one. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
