Capitalisation of Prime Minister of Singapore

edit

Hello, I thought I would provide a fuller explanation for my undo of your edit.

I refer to criteria three of the Manual of Style for capitalisation of the title: When a formal title for a specific entity (or conventional translation thereof) is addressed as a title or position in and of itself, is not plural, is not preceded by a modifier (including a definite or indefinite article), and is not a reworded description.

The official example states:

Theresa May became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2016. Theresa May was the prime minister of the United Kingdom.

In this case, the absence of the word "the" as a modifier, indicates the title instead of the office. It means that both of these two sentences are correct.

He served as Prime Minister of Singapore. He served as the prime minister of Singapore.

As the original sentence did not contain the article "the", the phrase Prime Minister is accordingly capitalised.

I hope that clears it up. Of course, should you disagree, please feel free to revert me and I will seek further clarification on the sentence structure. Thank you. Seloloving (talk) 15:16, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
