Deletion and protection of User:Argyriou/SirNicholas

I'm curious about your deletion and protection of this userspace page. The content was not an attack but a compilation of evidence to be presented in a future RfC/RfAr. I'm also curious about how you became aware of this. I see no notices on your talk page and there is no listing at WP:MFD. I get the impression that this was an action taken after discussion in IRC. Many editors are getting increasingly annoyed with Mimsy's out-of-process actions and pompous behavior. It would be unfortunate for you to be drawn into this situation by attempting to protect him. —Malber (talk contribs) 17:08, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Clearly you are at a misunderstanding as to what an attack page is then. You don't need to use space onwiki, even if in userspace, to do such a thing. We all know what would have happened had MfD been brought into this situation. I regret you are annoyed, and more so by the fact you are somehow feeling I am trying to take sides here when deleting a page that meets Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. The village pump is the place to change that issue, not my talk page. —Pilotguy (ptt) 17:53, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Okay, please illustrate how it was an attack page. Here's your opportunity to do so since your arbitrary deletion and protection has rendered any debate on the issue impossible and you did not warn first before deleting. G10 refers to content that directly attacks a subject, such as a personal attack. This was a page of mostly diffs. Userspace makes it very easy for involved parties to collaborate on drafting an RfC. —Malber (talk contribs) 21:42, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm not going to talk to someone as arrogant as you. It's Christmas, and the community has spoken on ANI. Bye bye. —Pilotguy (ptt) 23:39, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Okay, so let's be clear. You're not going to give an explanation for why you deleted a userspace page with no warning to the editor, no listing on WP:MFD, and no listing on WP:ANI? And when asked for an explanation you respond with a personal attack. Are these the actions of an admin acting transparently? Oh yes, the community has spoken at ANI and the consensus appears to be that you acted inappropriately. —Malber (talk contribs) 16:51, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

I've requested undeletion of the page, and I consider your actions, especially your complete lack of any notice to me, to be an abuse of admin powers. The page was my own private collection of diffs to show how Sir Nicholas had been abusing his admin powers and acting in bad faith, for a possible RfC. I had specifically not notified anyone about it - anyone who found it did so by looking at my contribs page. Argyriou (talk) 02:45, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Message from Star wars figures

I just received a Deletion message to my article from you >ilotguy , I don't know why you want to delete my article, It's not nonsense so please would you do me a favor and don't delete, or block my article. I have seen related articles and they don't have a Deletion Notice, so please leave my articles Star wars figures and Go to gallery on Wikipedia. Thank You. To answer my message go to User:Jaguar43.

Mentioned you at WP:ANI

A courtesy notification: I've just mentioned your deletion of User:Argyriou/SirNicholas at WP:ANI#Repeated_incivility_despite_warnings. In view of the ongoing issue there over admins deleting others' contributions and using their power in content disputes to protect their preferred versions of pages, this was probably not the best time to delete-and-protect an RFC draft on precisely that issue. SAJordan talkcontribs 17:13, 24 Dec 2006 (UTC).

Strasbourg

(Copy of [1]) Please. Could some administrator help ? There is a user who keeps on turning back history and making Strasbourg a german town again. Hello, I'm wondering why you removed this image from several articles. It seems to be a perfectly valid picture hosted on Commons. - SimonP 00:55, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see what happened. KFP tagged the enwiki page because the image was already on Commons, and thus there was no need for us to have a description page. The image itself is perfectly fine, and there is no need to remove it. - SimonP 01:09, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of Karns Quality Foods

Don't you think that you jumped the gun a little on this one? I mean, I wrote the stub yesterday, and I looged on this morening to find it deleted. Not even enough time to add the hangon tag! I vhose to begin the article after seeing the Supermarkets in the United States page, which lists Karns Quality Foods, but there is no article for it. However, there are articles for MANY supermarket chains that are of comparable size. Karns Quality Foods has been a company for nearly 50 years, employs approximately 800 people, and has had dozens of articles published about it in the Patriot News, the Sentinal, Central Penn Business Journal, and other publications. It is one of the top 30 privately help corporations in the market, and a major employer in the region. I fully intended to improve and expand the article as I had time to locate sources and add to it; however, most of the sources are newspaper articles that are no longer available on the web. From reading the other comments here, you seem to be a little heavy handed with the delete power. Maybe you should reconsider this and stop scrapping other people's work. If this continues to happen, I'm out of here, and Wikipedia will lose another contributor. Jkarns 14:06, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

wrongly deleted T3E.jpg

Greetings, Pilotguy - I don't understand why my uploaded image T3E.jpg was deleted. Your edit cites CSD: I3, which says images can be deleted if licensed as "used with permission" but lacking fair use explanation. But I asserted fair use when I uploaded; the owner of the image gave permission for it's use on Wikipedia.

Why was it deleted, and what should I say differently next time to prevent this from happening again?

deleted without warning

you deleted the article "Rutgers Hillel" without warning, citing it as blatant advertising. I would have greatly appreciated the opportunity to edit the article, as I have checked the guidelines for notability and believe the subject qualifies. The article could be rewritten to minimize whatever 'advertising' there might have been, citing additional independently published information, etc.... what can I do now?

User:Agetraer

Note about article types?

You left a note on my talk page about looking into different formats for different types of articles (band, biography, companies, etc), but none of the articles I have written or edited fall into these catagories. Is there one for organizations? If so, that would be relevant to the Midnight Riders article.

Hello Pilotguy,

I've already secured these images as GFDL by speaking with the creator directly, and forwarding that release to the Wikimedia Foundation. With your permission, I'd like to revert your edits to St. George (TTC), Museum (TTC), and Queen's Park (TTC), and remove the speedy deletion tag from the image files. Wrongful Delete with out warning: RFIQin article

I worked very hard on this article and it was deleted. I created the article about a cookware invention using multiple sources. I would like to re-write the article to make it not read so much like an advertisement, which was the reason why is was deleted. I am not sure why you did not just put a proposed delete tag or a “this reads like an advertisement” tag. I wrote this article using multiple sources and the information was facts, no opinions. I could have easily changed the wording of it to read less like an advertisement. In the future, please do not be so speedy about things. ChristopherMannMcKay 07:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Response to your Comment

In response to your comment "Would you like me to copy and paste the article into your userspace", yes I would very much like that. Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. I will clean up the article and remove anything that seems like advertising.

Blocking Singapore IP

Hi there i noticed u blocked Singapore's Starhub shared IP.Could u find other alternatives to prevent vandalism rather than blocking thousand of people who are sharing the same IP address?

A thought that came to my mind is that lets say Wikipedia is a country and that ur ban on Singapore shared IP is like banning Singapore Airlines from flying to Wikipedia w/o it's passengers' having a VISA(register) each. The only way of flying there is to apply for a VISA(register on wikipedia).

PLease reconsider the ban.

Page deletions

I've restored SLUC, which you deleted last night:

  • 02:43, 31 December 2006 Pilotguy deleted "SLUC" (Deleting page - reason was: "Empty page" using NPWatcher)

The thing is, whilst it was indeed tagged as {{db-empty}}, it quite obviously contained several sentences of coherent (though unwikified) text, and a {{hangon}} tag. In the period 2:05 to 3:05 last night, you did deletion 182 times, (almost?) all of which seem to have been done using NPWatcher, given the edit summaries. I'm a bit worried about the implications of deletions at this speed, especially with bot-assisted editing - can you please make sure to look over pages marked for speedy deletion and concur they're a valid candidate, not just run through anything labelled with a deletion tag? Hello. This is not "chewing you out", but... The subject image was deleted at 07:13 2 January 2007, the exact same time that the advice of the possibility of this occuring appeared on my talk page. I thought that I might have had a little more time to sort out the attribution tag. Please note, there is no warning that the tag I selected will cause such an image to be deleted. I selected the tag from the available list based on what I understood were her wishes. I freely admit that I assumed that she would want non-commercial use only. As it happens, I gave reasoning on the image page: the copyright owner had given me permission to put it up. This was also discussed on the talk page of the article. I am now awaiting advice from her on the appropriate license, suggesting "fair use (promotional photo)" and/or "cc-by-sa-2.5|Lin Hatfield Dodds" and/or "CopyrightedFreeUseProvidedThat|credit to and copyright of Lin Hatfield Dodds". I'll keep you updated. Cheers, Peter Ellis 03:29, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello ... Thanks for the WP:CSD#G11 on Imamate:A The Vicegerency of the Prophet, which is in DRV right now, BTW ...I placed a {{prod}} (instead of a {{db-bio}}) on the author's article, but Striver (talk · contribs) removed it, so would you be willing to do a CSD A7 on Sa'id Akhtar Rizvi?

And would you also be willing to do a Speedy for the following books and authors created by the same editor?

This editor has been a busy beaver, and I suspect that they now have a partner in crime creating a pyramid of dubious Shia "scholarship" within Wikipedia ... please see User_talk:72.75.72.174#Suspected use of Wikipedia to garner notability for others ... there was even more information about this house of cards to bootstrap notability on the deleted talk page, and several of their articles are undergoing WP:AFD and WP:DRV even as we speak ... I suspect that their real agenda is to improve Google and Alexa PageRanks by having beau coup external links in Wikipedia articles to pages on al-islam.org, al-shia.com, and rafed.net, all with articles that they have created, many of which have already been deleted ... see Talk:Rafed.net for some history. Deletion of Fantasy Congress

This article was marked as patent nonsense and quickly deleted; I admit that my writing was not of terribly high quality, but it was a good-faith effort to describe a fairly popular fantasy gaming site. It's not self-promotion, as I have no affiliation whatsoever with the creators of Fantasy Congress, and it will have new information soon, as I noted in the article itself. I marked it as a stub, and had/have every intention of adding to it in the near future. How is this nonsense? This isn't meant as a nasty question, I'm really puzzled.

Deletion of Page: Silent movie records

I understand that you guys have to be picky about what you keep or delete with bands and band related companies, but I thought I made a pretty good argument of notability. Not only is "Hit The Lights (band)" recognized on Wikipedia, but so is their first EP, "Until We Get Caught" - which we released. We've also released albums by other artists which have moved up to major labels and we have decent distribution for some titles.

My reason for creating the page and thinking that it would stay up was seeing one for "Emerald Moon Records." Which we are at LEAST just as notable in the music industry as they are.

Please let me know if I am wrong in assuming that you deleted the page, but the message about the speedy deletion on my talk page came from you. Please let me know if there's anything I can do or need to do to reinstate the page as it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Please review WP:BAND, and if you feel it meets inclusion criteria after that, you can re-create it. —Pilotguy (ptt) 21:36, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I do find it odd though that I tried contesting it with a "holdon" tag and it was still deleted. How do I stop this from happening again?

These are the guidelines I feel we meet, if not more:

▪ It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable.1 -- we have released 9 CDs, all with distribution.

▪ This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, and television documentaries -- We have had multiple write ups in Alternative Press magazine which services tens of thousands of readers.

1. Has had a charted hit on any national music chart.3 -- Billboard Top 200 Independent Chart (via Nielson Soundscan)

3. Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country,3 reported in reliable sources. -- The majority of our artists tour in heavy rotation, one of which just got off tour of the US and UK with New Found Glory and plays roughly 200 shows/year.

Im not trying to be cocky or anything, it just took me a little bit of time to make the page last time and I want to make sure I know how to prevent further deletion if I remake the page.

Thanks.
