Speedy deletion nomination of Bill Allard

edit

Hello Pjt56,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Arthistorian1977 and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged an article that you started, Bill Allard for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, William Albert Allard.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Arthistorian1977}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Hello Arthistorian, of course you are right - this IS a duplicate. My search for "Allard" revealed the disambiguation page, where neither Bill nor William Allard didn't appear. Pjt56 (talk) 15:29, 16 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Pemphredon, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Cocoon and Honeydew (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Throws a Poke-ball

edit

I caught you, don't move! I had to go through 24 alleged German-speaking editors on Category:Available translators in Wikipedia only to discover you're the only one still active :P Anyways, I'm writing Haltlose personality disorder which is an absolutely phenomenal article (if I do say so myself) that has shorter versions in Dutch, Portugeuese and Romanian...but oddly enough, not in German...despite all the sources on the English article being by Schneider, Kraepelin, Bleuler, Kahn, Aschaffenburg and the like. I wondered if you could do up at least a very short version on the German wikipedia to get it started, since you can use all the same sources as on the English article...which relies almost exclusively on German sources :P HaltlosePersonalityDisorder (talk) 20:39, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Haltlose..., translating into German seems to be not much sought after, because you are the first one to ask for my services since I put myself on that list. I am willing to help, even with a full translation of your phenomenal article, although I see some difficulties. First: I am not a psychiatrist, so my translation might not always use the right lingo. Anyway, I'd leave some note on the discussion page, so someone with better background can work on that. Second, more important: since you cite a lot of German sources translated into English, I would need access to the originals. Translating back into German would not be a viable solution. Are all the sources available online? --Pjt56 (talk) 21:10, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
All of the sources are available online, but some of them are not hotlinked because they are on DOI/Springer/JSTOR and would encourage people to use free Kazakh services like Sci-Hub to get around the paywall instead of paying $260 per PDF. I understand your point though because so much of the text is in quotation marks - so you'd need to avoid putting anything on the German wiki in quotation marks unless you had the original. But something like "it has been colloquially dubbed psychopathy with an "absence of intent or lack of will".[3]" could still be just phrased in German without the quotation marks, quoting the same source. I'm putting a copy of the same on Simple.wikipedia right now - and all of this began because somebody online pointed out there was literally zero information in English about it, lol (and no, I don't have it - username was just because it's what I signed up to edit). I'm tightening the wording myself on some of the translation into English so don't worry too much about the English article if the German source seems slightly off from how I've summarized it. Given my username, Haltlose is really just my focus to get it up and magnificent before drifting away from Wikipedia lol. HaltlosePersonalityDisorder (talk) 21:21, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ok then, I'll get to it, but it will take some time. I might try to find someone with easier access to the sources and ask for support. --Pjt56 (talk) 19:07, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
No problem, can always just start with a basic stub and let me know if there are specific papers you want and toss an eMail address and I'll see what I can do - although many of them don't have page numbers so you're left Ctrl-F-ing for the likely translation. HLPD (talk) 21:04, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Just let me know when you're done polishing the English article. I'll then have it imported to my translation sandbox and start working on it. --Pjt56 (talk) 10:10, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think I'm effectively done now - I'm looking at transferring my study to Gemutlose instead now :) HLPD (talk) 15:41, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have started the translation into German. Now I see that there is still a lot of "dynamics" on the English discussion page, and I do not want to take sides. Allow me to to pause my work until this has calmed down and a stable English version is available. Pjt56 (talk) 20:27, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request for WiTricity at German Wikipedia

edit

Hello! On behalf of WiTricity and as part of my work at Beutler Ink, I've submitted a request at German Wikipedia to update the article's text re: funding. The German Wikipedia entry is essentially a translation of the English Wikipedia article and I've proposed specific text (in German) for consideration. Might you be able to take a look at the request? Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 17:06, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Done. Pjt56 (talk) 18:41, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Pjt56 Thanks for your assistance! There are two other paragraphs where WiTricity has provided slightly different translations than the current text at German Wikipedia, which I've saved here: de:Benutzer:Inkian Jason/WiTricity ("Technologie" and the introduction/lead).
Do you have a moment to review these two paragraphs and update de:WiTricity Corporation appropriately? Again, I'm happy to answer questions and/or address any concerns. Thanks again! Inkian Jason (talk) 15:30, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Translation

edit

Strange request here, but an article about me and my Wikipedia work has been promoted to Good article status at English Wikipedia and nominated for similar status at Spanish Wikipedia. I'm curious if you have any interest in translating the entry for German Wikipedia or other projects?

Figured I'd ask since your profile suggests you do translation work. Either way, happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:59, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Jason, translating an article is not a big deal. I usually start with a DeepL draft and fine-tune it subsequently. What makes the job tedious is the difference between templates that causes a lot of manual work, especially when there are many references; I have to manually copy all the details from the English template to the German one. I have raised this question in the Wikipedia community, got votes for "high prio", but was told that a solution might take years. So, I will pick it up, but I'll need time. --Pjt56 (talk) 09:28, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
No worries or rush at all! I appreciate your response and willingness to help if and when you have time. I wish the process were easier. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:16, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
