Welcome

Hello and welcome to WP. I'm glad you're contributing. But others may have concerns about your name. You should read the important parts of WP:COI and WP:U. I'm not sure about this but I think you have to change your name because of the The username should represent one person; do not use your organisation's name. part in WP:U#Usernames implying shared use. I hope you will get that figured out and keep doing good work. Invasive Spices (talk) 21 December 2022 (UTC)

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 10:10, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi. I'm sorry to see my account was blocked due to edits I made recently. I must admit that I'm not very familiar with the rules of Wikipedia, however, I don't fully agree with the reasons for the block. I understand that my account name violates Wikipedia guidelines and I will try to change it. However, this account is not being paid by a private company and it's not used for advertisement purposes. This account exists to make sure information about the CPVO (a public EU agency) and plant variety rights in Europe is correct and updated. CPVO communication (talk) 10:18, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • I strongly disagree with calling this account's edits spam and with the use of the large ugly warning box. The account's name should be changed but the user probably didn't know that, and the contributions may need to be debated. This account is not being paid covertly by a private company to push a POV. So far as I can see no one has objected that this account's edits are incorrect or off topic. This account did make one edit which was WP:CITESELF but that may be appropriate in some cases. That could be a Talk: discussion. Invasive Spices (talk) 22 December 2022 (UTC)
Invasive Spices Paid editing is not limited to "paid covertly by a private company to push a POV"; any paid relationship must be disclosed. 331dot (talk) 10:37, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree and I am glad this editor is going through this process. Nonetheless the original name is some degree of disclosure itself (CPVO) and I think the way the editor was told was more appropriate for a paid vandal. Invasive Spices (talk) 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Per the discussion below I will remove the block. 331dot (talk) 11:19, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've fixed your request for you for proper display. If you are employed by this agency, you are a paid editor, you do not have to be specifically paid to make edits, nor does your agency have to be a private company advertising. Any paid relationship must be disclosed. 331dot (talk) 10:36, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your clarification. Yes, I'm an employee of the CPVO office, which is a public office of the European Union. However, none of the edits I have made on the CPVO page had any promotional intent, but were only meant to change outdated information and add new relevant information about the recent activities of the office. If you intend to edit about your agency or its field, you must do so according to the edit request process on relevant article talk pages. Please understand that the main purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources say about a topic, not what it wants to say about itself(though primary sources may be used in certain situations). Though someone else may review this, I would be willing to remove the block if you agree to make the required formal paid editing disclosure on your user page(once renamed) and to propose further edits related to your agency instead of making them yourself. 331dot (talk) 10:51, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree to make the formal paid editing disclosure and to not to edit directly the page of my agency. CPVO communication (talk) 11:12, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
