Please help me with... How do I update (inaccurate) links in my reflist? Playabender (talk) 18:38, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm going to need a bit more context here. Which page do you intend, and which links? ■ ∃ Madeline ⇔ ∃ Part of me ; 22:16, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Maddy and thanks for taking the time to respond.
- I only contribute to one page here and it is:
- Under the reference section, my name: Jonathan E. Sisk, appears in a bunch of refs all of which contain out of date url's.
- Instead of having the "securesession.com" component, they should just return to the original form.
- So, for example
- https://secure28.securewebsession.com/jes.com/pb/pb_wp2.html
- Should just link to
- http://jes.com/pb/index.html
- Is this possible for me to update?
- Thanks again,
- Jonathan E. Sisk Playabender (talk) 12:56, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
- I see. The footnotes shown in that reflist aren't actually defined there, but rather throughout the body. That means you'll have to search through the body, the code defining footnotes can look like this:
<ref name=JesFiles>{{Cite web|url=https://secure28.securewebsession.com/jes.com/pb/pb_wp1.html|title=Jonathan E. Sisk's Pick/BASIC: A Programmer's Guide|website=secure28.securewebsession.com}}</ref>
. Here, you'd just replace the URL after theurl=
parameter. You might also want to change thewebsite=
parameter, which should contain the name of the website and preferably not a domain name. As an aside, while updating URLs is unproblematic, you should read Wikipedia's guideline on conflicts of interest if you plan to edit content about yourself or someone you have a connection to. ■ ∃ Madeline ⇔ ∃ Part of me ; 13:15, 12 November 2022 (UTC)- Thank you so much for your kind response.
- I went ahead and updated all of the old links.
- While I am the owner, author and hosting provider of my Pick/BASIC book, I didn't put it in initially. Others did and each one directed to a sub-chapter, not the index. I was finally able to fix that.
- Can't see why anyone would challenge any component of this.
- You wrote "contain the name of the website and preferably not a domain name"
- Um, jes.com is the domain and website. Not entirely clear on the distinction.
- Again, thank you so much!
