Celtic F.C.

Hello Pointer1. I've reverted you twice on the Celtic F.C. article because you keep inserting a protection template when the article isn't protected. Only administrators on the site have the ability to protect articles and the template only informs editors - it doesn't actually protect the article. Capital letters in headings

Hi, just to let you know that in section headings, the first word has a capital letter, but after that, words only have capitals if they're proper nouns. See WP:HEAD. E.g. it should be ==Playing career== and not ==Playing Career==. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:14, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Category sort keys

Hello. Re your edit to Category:Kidderminster Harriers F.C. in that club's article. The pipe character and space after the club category was actually correct; it makes the club page sort at the top of the list of pages in that category, rather than in alphabetical order. Non-breaking spaces

The nbsp's you removed in this edit are required by the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. The nbsp symbol is explained at WP:NBSP, which says: "Use a non-breaking space (also known as a hard space) to prevent the end-of-line displacement of elements that would be awkward at the beginning of a new line: ... in other places where breaking across lines might be disruptive to the reader, such as £11 billion ..." Therefore, an nbsp is correct in phrases like "$1.4 million", which prints as "$1.4 million". WP:ELLIPSIS also requires an nbsp before an ellipsis (three dots) in most cases: it says "Use non-breaking spaces ... To keep the ellipsis from wrapping to the next line ("France, Germany, ... and Belgium but not the USSR")." So I'm putting the nbsp's back in again. Art LaPella (talk) 00:04, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Also, the commas that same edit removed after dates like "August 29, 2009" are also required by the Manual of Style. See the seventh bullet point of WP:COPYEDIT#Common edits. Date formats

I see the wording has recently been amended, so the bolded part I pointed out isn't there any more :-) and you're quite right about consistency extending to within the references.

However, consistency doesn't justify changing to a format not used in the article, as WP:DATE still makes clear, citing the ArbCom decision that "Wikipedia does not mandate styles in many different areas; these include (but are not limited to) American vs. British spelling, date formats, and citation style. Where Wikipedia does not mandate a specific style, editors should not attempt to convert Wikipedia to their own preferred style..." I noticed you fixed the date format in the BBC News articles. The changes are as a result of a vandal who constantly reverts the date format. I have tried engaging them in conversation but they never reply. WP:ALT

Hi!

The "alt=" fields you keep removing from the Gordon Brown article are there for a reason - specifically so that the images are accessible visually impaired users. These fields were originally added to bring the article up to featured article status.

If you're unsure why you keep being reverted, it's always a good idea to check the history of an article. When editors revert (or make any edit) they tend to leave edit summaries explaining their edit - as I have several times when I've reverted you.

• replacing the alt text, please discuss on the talkpage if you want to remove it
• rv. It's not irrelevant if you use a screenreader. See WP:ALT.
• rv good faith edit - use captions for images, use alt text for screen-readers etc.

Admittedly, one of those was from a fellow editor. All, however, provided an WP:Edit summary. "Reversion does not equal explanation!" is correct; you were reverted with an explanation.

Place of birth

Hi, locating the place of birth in the "Career" (or some such) section isn't ideal, but going by what WP:MOSNUM#Dates of birth and death says it's an improvement on it being in the lead as the parenthesis following the subject's name should only contain the date of birth/death. Accessdates

Cite template parameters

Hello. Thanks for cleaning up references where necessary, but if you're going to correct other people's formatting, it's a good idea to make sure you're up-to-date with what's actually correct. Please note the Essential parameters section of {{Cite news}}, which says:

• newspaper: Name of the publication that ran the item, e.g., Newsweek, The Scotsman, etc. Can also be used for the name of a column or subpart of an issue. Do not italicize; the software will do so automatically. (You may also use journal, magazine, periodical or work, but do not use publisher for this.)

Also, I noticed in your edit to Nikola Žigić, you changed the publisher in ref#2 to Sport Agency ABPM. There's a banner ad for that company at the top of the cited page, but I can't find any indication on the reprezentacija.rs website of that company being their publisher? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:44, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Another bit of MoS you may have missed

is regarding citation style. WP:CITEHOW says that when adding citations to an article, "You should follow the style already established in an article if it has one; where there is disagreement, the style used by the first editor to use one should be respected." That means whether or not it's a style we personally prefer. Before you started editing Nigel Lawson, it consistently used the {{Cite web}} family of templates. You've changed it to use hand-coded citations. Now you're aware of this, please would you try to follow it. Also, you're wasting your time removing location=London from citations; they're mostly added by bot, so the bot will no doubt come back and put it back in.

Sorry if this is coming across as a bit of a lecture, but as I'm sure you're aware, changing things away from the recommended style just makes extra work for others. {{ffdc}} requires a specific date format for its log parameter, and changing this format (as you did in this edit) breaks the link to the deletion discussion. I reverted your edits to The Saturdays' article. Those charting positions are from the European Hot 100 and not the Billboard Hot 100. The former has nothing to do with the latter. They are two different charts that calculate Europe and America separately and respectively. Just to inform you. That Sunday Night Show

How are you? I just wanted to let you know that I reverted your edit to this show page as while I appreciate your edit and acknowledge that it was ok. I have seen other pages with episode guides and I have seen certain episode guides with a "list-type" guest listing and others with a "prose-type" guest listing. (with "and" and without). There have been no conflicts about whether or not to use the "and". All the other edits were constructive, but I would appreciate you not reverting this particular edit, as there was never really anything wrong with it in the first place. It wasn't rally doing any harm to the page. You can add the "and" when writing an episode guide. List and prose are acceptable in this instance. So, please do not revert it again. Clayton Donaldson

I don't want to start an edit war so I'll raise my issues here. Firstly, the title of the Crewe reference on the webpage itself reads "First Team"; nowhere on that link does it state "First Team - Clayton Donaldson". Secondly, why is "FC" preferable to "F.C."? Hello. You might save yourself some work by not "fixing" working redirects. As WP:NOTBROKEN explains, it's both unnecessary and discouraged. Though if you're going to do it, please check you're getting the target right. Piping on dabs

Hello. I've been noticing you have been cleaning up some disambiguation page recently. You have been doing some good work but in some cases have been removing instances of valid piping. While piping is generally discouraged on disambiguation pages it is also important to note that there are cases where it should be used, for instance here: [1] for the title of the comic book and the video game. Piping is used in these situations, when the entry's article title differs from how it should actually be rendered, as a result of the technical limitations of the system. Have a look at WP:Piping#Where piping may be appropriate which gives examples of some of these instances. When in doubt, I always find it useful to have a look at WP:ITALIC, and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Text formatting#When not to use italics, as dabs follow the same formatting conventions for titles that articles do. Changing citation style, re Curtis Davies

Hello, and thank you for your improvements to Curtis Davies. I'm afraid I've undone your changes to the formatting, and have come to explain why. Over time, a consensus has developed at that article as to how to format citations, including: using the more explicit aliases |newspaper= and |website= rather than the generic |work=; using |newspaper= for newspaper websites as well as for paper sources; including |location= for newspapers where it's not obvious from the title (bots add that anyway, so there's little point removing it); and using |first= and |last= (displaying as Surname, Given name) rather than |author=Given name Surname. The relevant bit of the Manual of Style, at Wikipedia:Citing sources#Variations in citation methods, says quite strongly that where consensus has developed at a particular article to use a certain citation style, we should go along with that, and seek agreement at the article's talk page before attempting to change to a different style. So next time you make improvements to this page, or any other where there is an established and internally consistent citation style, please try to follow it.
