Getting ahead of myself

For page Prensal I removed the incorrect redirect, and I saved the page, and was then editing the page with new data (now live). You then undid my remove before I submitted the second edits. I see that I should have edited the new data in first, then removed the redirect - I was getting ahead of myself. Sorry about that. Fpr155 (talk) 15:21, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

OK, no problem @Fpr155:, sorry about the edit conflict! Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 15:36, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

British peerage titles.

Usage of solely British peerage titles is a form of undue weight. When it comes to British scientists, the epitheton constans Sir is treated as almost a first name, repeated even in the same sentence. I think it should be removed in articles that are scientific in nature, and the titles merely obfuscate the subject at hand. Also, notice how non-British peers never seem to have these decorations when merely linked to. --Eykeklos Omnia (talk) 11:55, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Where is this in wikipedia policy? WP:NCPEER suggests titles should be used in articles. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 12:11, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
I say make it into a policy. Because then you end up with British scientist seemingly more distinguished than their counterparts from other countries, and that's simply because Great Britain has a different culture when it comes to peerage. English Wikipedia should be more international in its scope than other mutations of Wikipedia and the style should portray it. Kind regards, --Eykeklos Omnia (talk) 13:11, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Stop, the Sub Urban page does not need to be reversed.

Do not revert the page Sub Urban is a page based on a singer, it is no longer redialing. The page is not used. So, there is no rule prohibiting the use of the page. In addition to the page being refused in Draft, it was by reference to Genius that it is a licensed website.

Your contribution was inadequately sourced and fails our notability guidelines. Looks like your edit warring / sock puppetry got you blocked. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 07:25, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Slide

Hello, I created a stub for the song "Slide" but you reverted my edit. I really don't understand why you decided to do this. This song is H.E.R.'s highest charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 and it also charted in plenty of other charts. A lot of articles were published about this song, both about the original version and the remix. It clearly meets the criteria for songs notability. So I would like you to explain why you decided to revert the creation of the stub because I really don't understand. Mirliz (talk) 14:35, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Per WP:NSONGS, there is consensus that the majority of songs do not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Sure, chart success is an indicator that a song may be notable and the song certainly passes that criterion, but "a standalone article is appropriate only when there is enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article". Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 15:32, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your answer! But I still don't understand... There is, as you quoted, "enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article" with the hundreds of articles that were published about the song itself, about the music video, about the remix and about the live performances of the song. And you agree that it is notable. So I really do not understand how you can think that a standalone article is not appropriate. Mirliz (talk) 16:18, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
@Mirliz: I'm happy for you to restore if you think it has potential beyond a stub. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 17:06, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

"Inappropriate disambiguation page"

What is the meaning of "Inappropriate disambiguation page"? Should i586 not have had the {{disambiguation}} template, or how? j.eng (talk) 13:45, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Possibly, but what you created was confusing and seemed to be disambiguating 786, not 586. Not helpful for clearling up ambiguity. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 13:57, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Samsara and Krysis

Hello, I've seen that you considered the pages for Samsara (Red Dwarf) and Krysis as possibly not notable enough as Wikipedia articles. I respectfully disagree, however, and I'd like to know what specifically you took issue with, due to the show Red Dwarf always having its individual episodes as their own pages. Would you like me to add further sources confirming their existence, such as a RadioTimes article perhaps? MyPreferredUsernameWasTaken (talk) 21:11, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

As the template message suggests, wikipedia requires evidence of significant coverage in reliable sources. This is more than just a source confirming their existence. Lengthy review articles, books, significant newspaper coverage etc. is required to show the lasting significance. Also note that just WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a valid rationale for not adhering to wikipedia's general notability guidelines. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 21:18, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
Would you rather I provide further reviews for the episodes in question, with detailed quotes. I'm just confused what particular issue you derive from these three episodes you've tagged is, as surely they have as much right to exist as any other Red Dwarf episode given its own article. MyPreferredUsernameWasTaken (talk) 21:29, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
I patrol new pages, these pages were recently created over an existing redirect. As part of the review I noticed that there is insufficient evidence of these pages satisfying WP:GNG, tagged it as such suggesting sources which demonstrate significant coverage should be cited, and marking the page as reviewed. Other existing articles may or may not satisfy WP:GNG but unless they are new they will not be patrolled by a New Page Patroller. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 21:38, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Polyamorph,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Andrew Garcia

Hi - just curious what more you think needs to be displayed for Garcia's notability to be established. It seems to me that once an artist has released multiple EPs (one of which was written up about in Billboard), been nominated for a Streamy Award, and been featured on a Billboard charting single, then that should be enough to display notability. --Jpcase (talk) 16:52, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Featuring on a single is not the same as releasing it. They are one of four people in the award nomination. There really is very little to suggest notability outside the show and per WP:OUTCOMES redirecting is the correct course of action, I endorse the AfD decision. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 18:41, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
Are you referring to this section of WP:MUSICOUTCOMES? "Articles on band members are often deleted if listed in an article separate from the band, unless the person is deemed notable for his/her independent accomplishments".
I agree with that guideline, but I don't think that the guideline necessarily applies here. Redirecting an article about an individual band member to the article about the band makes sense to me because anything notable about the band member's career can easily be mentioned in the article about the band. But Garcia's career - which has been written about in reliable third party sources, like Billboard The York Dispatch, and The Hollywood Reporter / Yahoo! - can't reasonably be discussed in the American Idol (season 9) article. All three of those sources were written several years after Garcia appeared on Idol, so Garcia's notability clearly didn't end once he left Idol.
When publications like Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter see fit to write about a musical artist's career, it seems reasonable to me to mention those career details somewhere on Wikipedia. And if the only source of news coverage that Garcia ever received was for featuring on a Ryan Higa single, then sure, we could just redirect Garcia's article to Higa's article. But that's not the case here. Garcia is notable for the Ryan Higa single, and for Idol, and for the two songs that were nominated for Streamys - and perhaps most notably, for his own EP, which was the subject of an entire article published by Billboard. --Jpcase (talk) 19:36, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
Yes the band members outcome applies as does the competition outcome. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 20:12, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
I restored the article. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 20:18, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
Thank you!! :D --Jpcase (talk) 20:50, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Transmission fluid

Hi, I see you undid my redirects and whatnot for the article on transmission fluid, reverting them to the article on hydraulic fluid. Can I ask why? Hydraulic fluid and transmission fluid are not the same thing, and I made this clear in the article I wrote. Am wondering if this was just a knee-jerk reversion or if there was some reasoning behind it (in which case, I ask, what was it?). Thanks! 148.129.71.189 (talk) 13:03, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

The car talk source should probably not be considered a WP:Reliable Source but I also note that it contradicts what you wrote. Transmission fluid can serve "to transmit power from the engine to the transmission. Possibly one solution could be to make this a disambiguation page with a short one line definition with some links to e.g. Automatic transmission fluid, Fluid coupling, Hydraulic fluid etc. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 13:56, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Voiceplay page under construction

Hi,

I see you have reverted the Voiceplay page to redirect to the singoff page. I was making this page to actually have info about Voiceplay. Why did you put it back on redirect? — Preceding unsigned comment added by General Jeno (talkcontribs) 14:34, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi, the article is undersourced, I've moved it to draftspace (Draft:VoicePlay) for now, once you have completed the draft and added appropriate citations to reliable sources you can submit the article for review at articles for creation. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 14:57, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Export Control

Export control - I was working on this page since it's an important topic and in the news, and it's different to Trade Barriers to which the page was redirected. There were a couple of reversions, getting rid of my work. I replaced it, given that this is an important issue. It would appear that you have then deleted the page along with the history, then re-created the page, destroying the history and my work. This is clearly deleterious behaviour. Export control is different to Export, indeed there are separate professional bodies for the two disciplines. Please can you explain your actions? And please can you restore the work? I mean, it's not pleasant to have work deleted. Given that you deleted the talk page too, I have started the process under the dispute resolution mechanism. 185.176.76.225 (talk) 09:58, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

I have not deleted the page, I moved it to WP:draftspace, you can edit it here: Draft:Export control. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 11:47, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Dineutron

First of all, thanks for your work! Why not a Dineutron page? Is it about the significance of the topic? Sinucep (talk) 10:46, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Sinucep:, thanks also for your contributions. The reason I restore the redirect from Dineutron is because content on dineutron was already merged into the Neutronium article and there is an entry for Dineutron in the section Neutronium#Neutronium and the periodic table. If you think you can expand the article beyond a few lines with reference to multiple WP:Reliable sources which demonstrate WP:Significant coverage then it could have its own standalone article. But in the meantime I think the current entry in Neutronium is sufficient. Polyamorph (talk) 10:53, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Bilevska fortress

Hello! Would you like to know the reason why you cleaned my skins and canceled the description of the fortress? At the moment, there is again a pardon on the city, not on the fortress, whose remains exist in the city. At present, there are remains of this fortress within the city. But these are different objects.--Blitz1980 (talk) 11:53, 2 March 2020 (UTC) By the way, articles about the fortress exist in both Russian and Ukrainian versions. Like other fortresses of the Ukrainian line, there are more than a dozen of them.--Blitz1980 (talk) 11:55, 2 March 2020 (UTC) (1 2)--Blitz1980 (talk) 11:57, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

I provided my reason in my edit summary, the article is wholly unsourced. All articles on the english wikipedia require significant coverage in WP:Reliable sources, and these should be cited in the article.Polyamorph (talk) 12:22, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
If I understand you correctly, if I increase the size of the article and provide the sources, then there will be no questions about the existence of this page? As it is, give it time to finish it.--Blitz1980 (talk) 12:27, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Sure. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 12:28, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Vandalism on Apline Gum

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alpine_Gum&type=revision&diff=953020830&oldid=952970561

In that revision, the article was vandalized. There is a source link and the page redirected to mentions nothing about Alpine Gum. The original or this page, https://enacademic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/4417167, provides better information that the Wrigley's Article. Please see the talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.205.44.26 (talk) 02:52, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

No it was not vandalized, it was converted to a redirect because the subject is insufficiently notable or reliably sourced for a standalone article. If you think you can expand the article by reference to reliable sources then you are free to do so. Polyamorph (talk) 07:08, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Deadnaming - any reason not to be expanded and standalone?

In January you set up a redirect from the Deadnaming page I was just starting to write [1]. I had previously sought input from editors at Transphobia and at least one thought it was a fine idea. Stuff with the 'Rona was starting to get hectic at that point so I was spending less time on here, but I'd like to properly write the page. There are enough sources to warrant a standalone, and it will be possible to offer sufficient context within the page itself. I don't see a lack of context as the issue. Is there any particular reason we should not have this page? Cleopatran Apocalypse (talk) 13:12, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Cleopatran Apocalypse: if you can provide sources that indicate standalone notability then there is no reason not have the page. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 13:54, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Oh basically just the standard google scholar and google books searching - plenty of entries. That, coupled with media reports and analysis articles explaining the concept, strikes me as sufficient. I'll roll up my sleeves and get to work! Cleopatran Apocalypse (talk) 13:59, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Polyamorph,

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Polyamorph! I hope you have a happy holiday season, and best wishes that the coming year will be much better than this one was. Thanks for all your help, and all you do here. Zaereth (talk) 23:35, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
