Wikipedia Questions.

Do you actually have to know anything about a subject to contribute to an article? Where are the rules listed at? Are there any more important pages I should read; where can I find them? Could content on, for example, Freewebs.com be used in an article -- of course cited? What is the adjective form of Wikipedia? Is there a certain place I can post questions about Wikipedia; where is it? Is there anything else I should know?Pozilla (talk) 15:46, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Just a little hint, Pozilla, that if you want to ask a question you need to ask it directly on someones user page to guarantee a response. I'll see if I can answer your questions here and now, however:

1. Strictly, no. Realistically, yes. Unless you are very good at picking up relevant information from sources which you know relates to the topic, then i'd advise against contributing to articles you don't know about. Stick to the topics you are famililar with and pick up sources for them and contribute that way :)

2. There are lots of policies here but there is a very important one here called WP:IAR. It essentially means you can do what you like as long as it benefits Wikipedia, so if that means you have to ignore a certain rule, do it by all means as long as it is helpful and not, for example, vandalism. A list of other policies on Wikipedia can be found here.

3. Here on Wikipedia we've got a fairly good idea what constitutes a reliable source and i'm afraid that Freewebs doesn't really cut it. The best articles to use are peer-reviewed, if you can find them. See here for more information.

4. Adjective form? Not entirely sure what you mean there, sorry.

5. There are two good places to ask questions. If you have a question regarding general help topics, go here. If you have questions about policies, for example, go here.

RE: Adoption

I'd be thrilled to adopt you if you'd like me to be your mentor here on Wikipedia. I'm on here pretty much everyday for a while so don't hesitate to drop me a line! There is indeed such a place. To find it for any user (including yourself) go to your user page and on the sidebar, in toolbox, there is an option saying "User contributions" and that will tell you what pages you've edited. RE: Links tool (email)

I'm not entirely sure but I think that the tool reads the list of references on an article and manually tries them all to see if the links are working properly. It can then pick out errors. Regards, CycloneNimrod^Talk? 08:47, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

RE: Email

I'm afraid that if you are looking for 'motivation' as such, I cannot really help you. That's something you're going to have to find on your own by just getting involved. If you enjoy it, you'll be motivated! Although i'll happy check over any edits you've made if you'd like my opinion, that's not a problem.

There are too many guidelines, I find it helpful to read them only when they apply to you. If you're worried about your level of English, do not worry, simply tell me to check it over after you've written something and I'll have a look. You'll soon get into the swing of things :)

Just a few words of advice, now. First, it's usually best to talk to a user on their talk page unless it is confidential, in which case you can email them. I mention this only because you've emailed me twice now when it would be more appropriate to talk on here! Although it's not really that much of a problem.
