Consensus, cooperation, and technical level

edit

Although not your intentions, it is bad manners around here to overwrite a mature article in one shot without explanation. We tend to discuss things a little to help guide the extent and level of our editing. We also tend to do edits in bits. A good place to start is to review some of these brief policies WP:TECHNICAL, WP:NOTJOURNAL, WP:NOTTEXTBOOK. Having said that, it would be great if your group's efforts could be brought into Wikipedia. --Smokefoot (talk) 23:45, 16 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Kudos, but

edit

While I was one who put out the general word in the JT community about how bad the state of affairs was at this article, and welcome the input that is represented in its >43,000 bytes of edited content—information in wikipedia must be verifiable, and what you have added, largely is not. Too much of wikipedia is "just trust us". To add such an enormous new section in this way, in 2017, is unacceptable. I will propose to others that your long edit be placed elsewhere, and not in the main article space, until such time that the content can be very specifically tied to its sources. Said another, more personal way: I have taught OChem, Chem. Biol., spectroscopy and lab courses related to OChem, etc. at major research universities over the years. Yet, I still do not, on my expertise, add content in these types of articles from my head, or from my extensive teaching notes. I only add content if there are good secondary sources from which I can draw and point to (often the finest texts and advanced texts and reviews, from which I base my teaching). This is because we are not allowed to present material based on our own expertise. If we can, anyine can, and you and I do not want anyone doing this. For this reason, see WP:VERIFY, content must be sourced. Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 04:21, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
