Perhaps something like this: It is possible that the union of Abraham and Sarah was actually incestuous, because Sarah is thought to have been Abraham's half-sister. Abraham knew then Holiness code rules on incest (ZarathustraSay 20 on Hepner), and though the only thing strictly forbidden was marriage to one's own brother or sister, this union still calls into question the extent of these rules. However, when Abraham and Isaac claimed that their wives were their sisters, they were doing so in order to create much needed diplomatic relations (Sctimmons on Hoffmeier).
