Auckland Museum Medals

edit

I am willing to review the article for creation. However, it has an odd duplicated section of content below External links. Can you review and clean that up please ? Thanks Marshelec (talk) 08:15, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Marshelec: That part is a section that'd be added to Auckland War Memorial Museum and not the medals article, if that makes sense (I'd have a COI adding it myself without the text being reviewed) Prosperosity (talk) 08:35, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Prosperosity I hope I have done what you hoped for :). No pressure at all, and this topic may not be your thing, but if you are interested in forest reserves and bird sanctuaries, I have just nominated Bushy Park (New Zealand) for GA review. _Marshelec (talk) 09:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Marshelec: Wonderful, thank you! I'll have a look over the article - I'm not sure if I have the capacity at the moment to do a review, but I might see if there are any changes that could be made to help the review.
Also, would you be interested in drawing the park in OpenStreetMap and linking it to the Wikidata item? It looks like it's not currently shown on OSM so you'd have to find a map and draw it. --Prosperosity (talk) 22:11, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

William Green NZ Composer

edit

Hello. The page I created about him has been removed. He lives in Auckland. I don't understand wikipedia very well. Could you look into this please? I left messages with the deleter but they don't appear to be active now for many days. I left a message on an administrator's page but have had no response. Thank you for your help. Kelly222 (talk) 22:17, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

FYI, the article has been moved to draft space as it's clearly not ready for main space. Schwede66 00:57, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Kelly222: Have a read of WP:COMPOSER - that may help a little. The article needs to explain why this person is notable (e.g. if they won awards, were part of a major production, were involved with albums that charted in music charts, etc.). At this stage it's much to brief to become a mainspace article - see what additional sources you can find about him and see if the article can be expanded further.
Wiki articles on people who are alive tend to need significantly more sources establishing their facts, and explaining why somebody is notable. Does that help? --Prosperosity (talk) 03:50, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you but we've been down that route already. The user who deleted the article seems to be keen to delete without looking carefully. Another user pointed out that liance had not considered the listing in the NZ encyclopedia and also agrees with me that a listing in the NZ encyclopedia is itself sufficient for notability. The composer guideline says itself that it's only a guideline and when I looked at it I see it seems to have in mind pop music. Kelly222 (talk) 21:14, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Kelly222: That's right, a lot of the music guidelines are meant for pop music, that's why it's better to have a look at the composer subsection. There are a few major issues that would need to be addressed for the article:
1) It's a really tiny page. The article needs much more information, coming from multiple sources that discuss the subject.
2) The page should talk more about why he is important, based on major sources that focus on him and explain why he's important. Some of the reasons why a composer might be considered important are listed here
3) The page formatting should match other pages on similar topics - I've had a look at NZ composers, and some formats that might be helpful are Richard Fuchs or Barry Anderson (also great guides for what level of detail and information is needed).
That someone has an article in Te Ara means they're almost definitely notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia, but it doesn't mean that any Wikipedia page on this person is okay. The page should also be detailed and explain why they're important, backed up with reliable sources (and some of those sources should focus on him as the main subject).
Does that make sense? Prosperosity (talk) 22:18, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've just had a look at the Te Ara website and I can't seem to find an article on him. Could you point to where it is? Prosperosity (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ovalipes catharus

edit

Hi, Prosperosity! I'm working on improving the article on Ovalipes catharus, and I noticed you're working on improving coverage on Aotearoan history and that you added information about Māori art cited to Vennell (2022) (I'm unfortunately unable to find a copy at any libraries near me to look into this in more detail). I was wondering if you happen to know of any specific piece of Māori containing Ovalipes catharus and if there exists an image of it which is suitably licensed for Wikimedia Commons. I'm hoping to place an image of the artwork in that section to show off an example. All the best, TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 16:15, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@TheTechnician27: I think I remember seeing an image from a wharenui in the book showing a crab, but I don't have the book on me anymore so I couldn't confirm, sorry! The closest I can find on WikiCommons are the New Zealand Arthropod Collection pare carvings, but no crustaceans there that I can see. --Prosperosity (talk) 22:58, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Prosperosity: Aw, that's alright, though. Still hugely appreciate the work you're doing in this arguably undercovered area, and if nothing else, I got to see some cool wood carvings with arthropods. Definitely don't go hunting one down, but on the off-chance you trip and fall over one in the future, I'd love to know about it. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 23:06, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
