Welcome!

[edit]
Hello, Purring maggot!

I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Getting Started

Tutorial
Learn everything you need to know to get started.

The Teahouse
Ask questions and get help from experienced editors.

The Task Center
Learn what Wikipedians do and discover how to help. Has a list of maintenance tasks you can do.

Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue on the article's talk page. Be civil, and reach a consensus there before restoring the edit.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source. Do not use AI-generated text.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Sarsenethe/they•(talk) 05:33, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Lowercase name?

[edit]

Hello, purring maggot! I noticed on the WT:CYBERSEC regulatory requiremenrs section you wrote your username in lowercase. Do you prefer your name lowercase (as I do)? You can change your signature in your user settings to write your name in lowercase, and you can use {{LOWERCASE TITLE}} on your userpage to render it in lcase. Thanks, and happy editing! guninvalid (talk) 20:31, 3 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

That is, in fact, my preference - thanks so much for the tips! purring maggot (talk) 20:36, 3 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Akinohi Park when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Sorry about these. I did this while reverting edits as part of AI cleanup. I'll check the infoboxes after doing that from now on. purringmaggot (talk) 17:37, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Appreciate you dealing with LLM slop, but gotta check those diffs better as, for example, you removed multiple pieces of info from the Infobox here. Keep up the LLM fight! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:44, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Your edit to List of hill figures in Wiltshire may have had some good in it, I have not reviewed it all, but you removed several reliable sources without having disputed them and without replacing them. This kind of thing can happen when you simply restore an earlier version of the page. Moonraker (talk) 22:26, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that, I made the wrong decision in that case. I appreciate your rescuing of the good sources. purringmaggot (talk) 17:10, 6 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request for assitance

[edit]

⁣ Hi, Sir, can you guide me on how to edit a page like an expert? I would like to improve articles, so could you please assist me? @Purring maggot ElijahJWrites (talk) 15:18, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi ElijahJWrites, I am a relatively new user myself so I may not be the best person to assist you. You were assigned a mentor automatically when you joined; you should be able to find them from your Homepage. You can leave a message on their talk page with any questions about editing. There's also the Teahouse which is a help desk where volunteers will answer newcomer questions.
Personally, I recommend reading and getting really familiar with core policies such as verifiability, reliable sources, and neutral point of view. I've noticed that your edits rely a lot on primary sources, so it's probably a good idea to read about the difference between primary and secondary sources and why Wikipedia prefers using secondary sources.
I would also recommend not removing maintenance tags from articles, such as the {{AI-generated}} tag, until you are quite familiar with why these tags exist and what specific work needs to be done to ensure the tagged issues are resolved. purringmaggot (talk) 15:37, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I used AI assistance only for formatting, and as you mentioned, I wasn't aware that these tools aren't allowed. However, I will be very careful with this next time and try to resolve the issue. @Purring maggot ElijahJWrites (talk) 15:57, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

who'd have guessed....

[edit]

...that the person with the disturbing username who posted to the Teahouse looking for unrecognized, mind-numbing behind-the-scenes tasks for a newcomer actually meant it?

I have to say, I was working on WP:AGF but I spent the first week wondering when the scam was going to become apparent!

Awfully glad to have you. M kuhner (talk) 20:57, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

LOL! Thank you so much. For what it's worth, my username is a reference to the game Dwarf Fortress, in which the purring maggot is a subterranean animal that produces milk that sustains the dwarves. Doesn't make it any less gross, but now you know. purringmaggot (talk) 21:01, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm a Zerg myself, no prejudice against larvae here! (Starcraft 2) Though if I don't get off Wikipedia soon I will not have enough games to qualify for tomorrow's amateur tournament.... M kuhner (talk) 21:28, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia truly sucks up all available time once you get into it... I'm procrastinating on chores right now, and I'm practically not even doing anything useful, just filling my eyeballs with information. Well, that's probably my cue to go do the things I'm supposed to be doing. purringmaggot (talk) 21:41, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) +1, I sort of started in the same situation (though different). Do keep up the good work that you're doing. Tenshi! (Talk page) 21:04, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

for this comment which refers to me as the mysterious "another editor" with they/them pronouns, it's funny ~2026-38678-64 (talk) 18:58, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Lmao I didn't want to snitch tag you, I figure if the editor is worried about who specifically tagged their draft they can easily find out purringmaggot (talk) 19:03, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
(btw please ping me when talking to me, TAs don't have watchpages!) ~2026-38678-64 (talk) 20:15, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yet another reason for you to create an account. :) just pick a non-identifying username, and you'll be just an anonymous as now (or more, some of us have TAIV). gurkubondinn 20:42, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
my IP is 192.0.2.100 so i am safe from TAIV and CU[Joke]
NEVER! i refuse to create an account, i WILL use this TA until it expires, and i WILL not LOUTSOCK[humour] ~2026-38678-64 (talk) 21:02, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think when this TA expires we should all pretend not to know who you are, and comment mournfully on how much we miss good old -64. M kuhner (talk) 03:03, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Article cleanup

[edit]

Thanks for your LLM cleanup efforts. Sorry to see that you (and everyone else) were accused of COI regarding the Adriana Ferreyr AfD, which is totally ridiculous and uncalled for. I still think that the article can be salvaged. The obvious AI slop shouldn't be restored, but I think a kind of middle ground can be reached. Anyways, keep up the good work. Noxthebigfox (talk) 16:33, 29 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I appreciate that. Just to clarify, I didn't nominate the article just because of the AI issues, but because I believe that the notability of the subject is in question. I don't necessarily object to the assertion that the lawsuit(s) against George Soros impart notability to Ferreyr, I just can't take a position on that particular argument one way or another because I don't have a good enough understanding of the applicable BLP guidelines. I mainly object to her being notable as an actress based on the sources historically used in the article, and that have been brought up in the AfD, the independence/reliability/significance of which seems to be totally overstated. If the article is kept, I wish you the best of luck keeping promotional content out of it; it seems like the article has been problematic since its inception. purringmaggot (talk) 16:50, 29 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, this makes sense. I might try to see if the article can be made somewhat longer without having to sacrifice quality.
I do a lot of amateur sleuthing on Soros's life and activities, so I'd hate to see this article go to waste. WP:TNT and rewriting from scratch might be another option if you think the current version is too messy.
Also I said that the AI slop accusations against you at COIN were totally uncalled for. Noxthebigfox (talk) 17:10, 29 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
