Please do not remove sourced information. If you have more up-to-date information, by all means provide it, with appropriate citations. Acroterion (talk) 18:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sure, but with 2008 crisis and weak USD it's useless to speak about US being the largest economy of the world. US has become a joke really. --Qaz 1009 rfv (talk) 18:18, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the ref: I suspected you were right, but you always have to back this sort of thing up. "Largest economy in the world" is always subject to how it's defined, but in the context of that particular article, I believe it's appropriate, especially given the age of some of the references. Acroterion (talk) 18:21, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I totally agree with you. Qaz 1009 rfv (talk) 18:23, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Qaz: please avoid using WP:POV when doing your edits. I know you are a big europe fan (so am I), but we should preserve the truth. Your recent edits to Eurozone are not correct and you have been reverted almost immediately. People will not take you serious if you continue with this behaviour. Best regards, Miguel.mateo (talk) 02:43, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Comments such as weak USD (Have you looked at the price of the Euro this year?) and that the US being a joke make you sound like an idiot. Let's look at some stats:

DAX: 52-week low 4,014.60 52-week high 7,231.86 FTSE: 52-week low 3,665.21 52-week high 6,377.00 CAC: 52-week low 2,770.09 52-week high 5,142.10

For good measure DJIA, 52-week low 7,449.38 52-week high 13,136.69

Newsflash: Europe's doing just as badly as the US, if not worse.
1.00 USD = 0.7808 EUR
This is intentional US policy by this point. The reality is in a time of crisis NO ONE wants Euro notes except speculators; if the US government didn't intervene with TARP there would be parity. What was it six months ago? Stop being a little troll. Every time time US stock markets go down, as with the Euro ones, the dollar gains more value on the Euro. When this bottoms out, the dollar will be in a far more favorable position than the Euro. When times are good again, the Euro will seem to be stronger than the dollar.
Real Assets are far less prone to dramatic boom and busts in the long run. The dollar is far less speculative than the Euro. Very little backs the Euro in reality. Its a big economy, with people who spend far more per capita than any other place in the world. The natural resources of Europe aren't there anymore: Oil? No. Coal? No. Gas? See Russia. Gold? In reserves only, which was plundered from Africa over the centuries anyway-these piles aren't increasing. And what percentage of Europe's collective GDP isn't spent by the governments compared to the US? And does Europe maintain an actual army to enforce its trade? 134K for France...137K for Germany...109K for Britain...considering Russia is at 400K, has many more gold mines, much more natural resources, I think trolls like you should just accept that Europe is no better or worse than anyone else.
And for the last point, the US has successfully intervened in two European wars with deceisive effect; if there was no US at the end of WWII, its a good bet the USSR would've overrun all of continental Europe. Last I checked, Western/Central Europe has never been able to intervene successfully in the affairs of the US since the War of 1812 and even then it was a non-continental power that doesn't use the Euro. So if you think that America's going down, I really wonder what sewer that'll leave Europe in by the end of the day. At least we don't have to worry about Paris being destroyed or fascists getting 20% of the vote in our presidential elections, or Neo-Nazi police officers plotting to overthrow our government (Belgium) or having people in this country for over 3 generations without citizenship (Germany) or...the list goes on and on and on about how many problems Europe has... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.247.100.182 (talk) 20:19, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Decline of US dollar

edit

I have nominated Decline of US dollar, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Decline of US dollar. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. The comment was very biased regarding a US "hegemony." You'd only listed a single source of information and even then, the article was only a single, declarative sentence. The problem with a subject like that is that it might never be made to fit the WP:NPOV requirements. I'm not against your creation of an article under that title, but my suggestion would be to first write it off-wiki and post it later to prevent any misunderstandings. Good luck. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:34, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
