Please don't change the table until consensus has been made. Thanks. –Turian (talk) 14:22, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

My sincerest apologies. Please look on my main user page and check out my rough plan for an alternate table. I honestly believe that I have added some improvements to the current one which looks very unprofessional and clumsy. Please comment below the table as I respect your opinion. Qdiazissipom (talk) 18:08, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The red is rather unnecessary. Now, we have blue, pink, red, and yellow, which is definitely going in the opposite direction I think it should be headed. –Turian (talk) 18:10, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I actually asked you to comment beneath the table on my user page so please pay more attention to detail in future circumstances. The female and male contestants are divided into four tables all together (female semi-finalists, male semi-finalists, female finalists, male finalists) and so it is painfully obvious which contestants are female and male so there is no need for the separate gender colours. With the 'cyan' and 'pink' taken out of the equation we would only be using red and the three different shades of yellow. Qdiazissipom (talk) 18:39, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Talk pages are for talking. And I will remain here only. The problem with what you want to do is that once you get to the top 4 and top 3, it is going to look insanely bunched up. I assume that is why it has not been done before. I'm still only convinced of using palegoldenrod. –Turian (talk) 20:29, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

If I reduced the size of the column widths and abbreviated 'bottom 3' as 'btm 3' then the red elongated rows wouldn't extend the size of the table. Colours can be changed however I created this table just as an example of an alternate table which looks, in my opinion, to be minimalist but still professional and not as jarring and clumsy as the current one in use. I will now create another draft of the table with the column widths reduced and with the red elongated row for every contestant up to top 3. Qdiazissipom (talk) 22:08, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I actually need to apologise as reducing the column widths wouldn't have an effect as the writing within the red elongated row would push the size of the table. Anyways, I have drawn up a draft with all the contestants put in a random order of elimination and the table doesn't look jumbled at all. the Eliminated (Top 3) does go over onto a second line and a simple nowrap would fix that but it would (on my computer screen) require a small sideways scroll to get full view. Tell me what you think. I'm uploading it now. Qdiazissipom (talk) 22:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
To avoid having a jumbled, choppy table, I can delete the text and just have the red elongated row. I'll add this to my user page. Please feel free to make experimental tweaks to the 3 tables in my user page however don't be offended if I revert them. What are your views on the btm2/btm3 debacle? Qdiazissipom (talk) 22:30, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I still don't like it. It's rather unnecessary, since we also have the number listings on the right. When pages use the longer row, that is basically the only place where the information is held within that table. We need to stick with the gray. –Turian (talk) 22:33, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Also, the debate is about the colors of the Elim and contestants. I think we should focus on that for now. –Turian (talk) 22:37, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have now done a rough completion of the table with the red rows filled in but with no text. This has resulted in no text overlap and now the columns can be decreased as much as desired. The only different now is that the rows are a pale maroon/salmon colour compared to the disgusting grey. I also think that the red/palegoldenrod colours blend perfectly and the table is aesthetically pleasing. What do you mean 'number listings on the right'? I am very unclear on that point. There is no need for the gender colours as there are two tables with the male and female contestants making the use of gender colours redundant. Qdiazissipom (talk) 22:45, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Gray is used for almost all elimination tables:

So_You_Think_You_Can_Dance_(Season_4)#Elimination_chart
Celebrity_Apprentice_3#Weekly_results
America's_Next_Top_Model,_Cycle_11#Call-out_order

They use a different type, but it breaks the bordering. Nonetheless, they used gray, and American Idol has used it since the beginning. –Turian (talk) 22:56, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The fact that American Idol has used grey since the beginning is irrelevant as it can easily be changed. The use of red on my table is identical to the use of grey on American Idol elimination charts however the red, in my opinion, blends better and isn't as ugly. The fact that most elimination charts use grey is also irrelevant. So You Think You Can Dance used green for the 'btm 3' however we do not use that. For arguments sake, imagine the red in my table being replaced with a light grey, would the table with it's lack of gender colours and with its ample sized column widths be appealing to you now? Qdiazissipom (talk) 23:12, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes. –Turian (talk) 23:14, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have changed the red to a grey now look at my table. I think the general feel of the table is much more polished and professional than the one in current use and i'm talking in terms of font style and size rather than colours. Qdiazissipom (talk) 23:30, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I like that one. However, I don't like the white row splitting the semi-finals and finals. I think it is easy to differentiate between the two. Also, I think it would be best to abbreviate Bottom to Btm. –Turian (talk) 23:33, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I like the size of the rows as it gives us the chance to spell out 'bottom 3' which seems more intelligent than the ugly 'Btm'. I'll get rid of the white line. I would like your support in trying to make this table the one used in the season 9 article. We have a strong argument regarding the gender colours... we don't need them as there are tables with the female and male contestants in them. Qdiazissipom (talk) 23:45, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I won't make a federal case out of it. The Bottom 2 and Bottom 3 colors are still a little too yellow for my liking, but again, I won't freak out over it. I think if you could apply it to one of the finished seasons, you might be able to win more people over. –Turian (talk) 23:58, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
