Images
editHi Qwertzy, and welcome! I notice you've been uploading some wonderful photographs. One minor point: you need to say explicitly that you took the photos, and you need to add a copyright tag. The easiest thing to do is just add
- User:Qwertzy2 took this photo. GFDL-self
to each image description page.
By the way, it would be wonderful if you'd put your pictures at the Wikimedia Commons. Images uploaded there can be used here in exactly the same way. The benefit is that other Wikimedia projects can use the images too, like the Wikipedias in other languages. You might want to check out Commons:Category:Plantae and its subcategories. Taxoboxes
editHi Qwertzy - nice to see you're making a lot of good additions; a few points:
On taxoboxes, bulleting (* at the start of the line) and is not very good as it takes up too much space; most people use <br/> to start new lines in lists in taxoboxes. I've copied my plant box templates below, you're welcome to use them if you want:
- Taxobox for a plant species
<br>
- Taxobox for a higher plant group
           taxon1 <br/> taxon2 <br/> taxon3
On Ticodendron, generally, with a monotypic genus, the page is titled at the genus name (compare e.g. Ginkgo, Sciadopitys), for easier searching - mind if I move Ticodendron incognitum to Ticodendron?
Also I noticed you moved one or two pages from scientific name titles to common names; don't feel obliged to do so, quite a few people (myself included) prefer scientific name titles as they are very often better for category indexing and less confusing or open to controversy (given that so many plants have different common names used in different places, and/or common names that suggest they are wrongly classified)
Have you seen the Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life and its talk page Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tree of Life yet? - you might want to join the crowd in there and browse through them. - MPF 00:35, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
RE
editWell I just thought that Ticodendron incognitum is more "coherent" to other articles, as for monotypic taxons we often name the article the lowest taxon possible (in this case the species). But yes, I agree that moving it to Ticodendron is much more convenient. By the way, thanks very much for the information concerning the Tree of Life. THat's very useful !!Qwertzy2 07:58, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Ranks in Taxobox_section_subdivision
editDo we really need the ranks in the ? In my opinion, they just take up space and look ugly. They don't add any information, because the ranks being discussed have already been given at the top of the section. I can see no indication at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life/taxobox usage that the rank should be included. In fact, omitting the (repeated) rank would probably help to prevent mistakes, like "subfamily" where "superfamily" is meant (c.f. shrimp). --Stemonitis 13:35, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
RE
editI think that if we indicate no rank at all in the taxobox_section_subdivision, it might look quite confusing and mind-boggling, especially if there are particularly many taxa. That's why I repeated it systematically at Shrimp. However, I would agree that omitting ranks helps preventing mistakes (er, and thanks very much for indicating my mistake...), so I will omit ranks at Shrimps. Does it still look reasonably "limpid" and "clear", in your opinion ?
Argentina (genus)
editHi Qwertzy2 - do you know what the circumscription of the genus Argentina is? Does it include just the two species listed, or all the species traditionally listed in Potentilla sect. Leptostylae? (e.g. REVISION OF POTENTILLA L. SECTION LEPTOSTYLAE and Flora of China: Potentilla sect. Leptostylae). Judging by the descriptions, I would say these would be in Argentina, but I can't find any evidence that the relevant combinations have been published. Do you know if they have been?
I'm also moving Argentina (genus) to Argentina (plant), as User:Circeus has just pointed out that there is also a genus of fish named Argentina which will need a page one day. - MPF 14:48, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
- Hi MPS - Well I do not know exactly either. Based on your link, I also think the genus at least comprises those 3 species of Potentilla sect. Leptostylae, and most references on the Web do mention them. However I actually cannot find any reference mentioning the genus's exact circumscription. Qwertzy2 07:29, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
Taxobox authorities
editTaxobox authority is for animals only (it requires a date). For plants, use something like . ~~~~
- If you don't know who a surname like "Pax" or "Miranda" is referring to, you should link to Pax (taxonomy) or Miranda (taxonomy), not to Pax or Miranda, which are not what you want! This makes it easier to find these references and replace them with proper links — in this case to Ferdinand Albin Pax and Faustino Miranda. (For abbreviations with a period it's OK to link to L. because that's unambiguous.) Alternatively, you can look up author surnames and abbreviations at the International Plant Names Index [1]. Move !
editIn this edit you claim that you moved the article. You did not move the article, you did a copy and paste. If I had deleted Night-blooming cereus (Selenicereus grandiflorus) as you requested, I would have thrown away over a year's history of edits, making it look as though you had written the whole article recently. That would have been wrong. In any case there was no need to delete that title - it is a perfectly valid redirect.
What you should have done was to mark Selenicereus grandiflorus (which at that time was just a redirect) with the message .
Please use move in future, or get an admin to do it if the move is blocked. -- RHaworth 10:36, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
- Oops ! I am terribly sorry for that. Thanks for the explaination. Qwertzy2 14:46, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for your vote, and HDI discussion underway ...
editHello! I hope you're well. I'd like to thank you for participating in the vote earlier to include the HDI in the country infobox/template. Yay!
After a lengthy gestation, a discussion piece has been prepared to help give form to the vote. If you've a preference for how and where this information should appear in the infobox, I'd appreciate it if you head on over there and comment. :)
After a decision is arrived at, if at all, I'm also hopeful to prevail upon you to add the values (if you're willing and comfortable) for a handful of countries; the more people doing it, the less time it will take to implement the vote and realise the fruits of our collective labour.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for your co-operation! E Pluribus Anthony 04:07, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Cyphostemma elephantopus.JPG
editThanks for uploading Image:Cyphostemma elephantopus.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use gfdl to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use fairuse.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Nv8200p (talk) 18:28, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
Hi, I made this page but I'm not a botanist. Can you help with taxobox? Thanks, Badagnani 04:51, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, I have added the taxobox and the appropriate category for the article. I have also rephrased the lead paragraph a little bit, just to make it sound more encyclopedic and, most importantly, not simply copy-pasted from another website... :-)Qwertzy2 23:01, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! I did write that text myself, from my experience eating this food. Badagnani 23:11, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Need taxobox
editHi, sorry to bother you again. I've just created an article on a Vietnamese herb called Limnophila aromatica and don't know enough to make a taxobox. Can you help? Badagnani 04:23, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi -- I just added a photo gallery to the Peperomia page, since you already have a photo in the Taxobox. I looked at the list of species with your name all over it... did you type all those things in yourself? Good Lord! Thanks for all the hard work... Sincerely, Nathan Beach 22:53, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yeah I did type all those things in myself. You're welcomed !:-)Qwertzy2 17:27, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi Qwertzy2,
Can you help me to disambiguate D.C. in the taxobox on the page Strombocactus disciformis? What does it stand for?
Thanks, Ravn 17:08, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Found it, thanks. -- Ravn 17:16, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Peperomia?
editHi Quertzy2, I noticed the photo you put in the taxobox for the Peperomia page does not appear to actually be a Peperomia. Peperomia spp. have characteristically minute flowers, without a developed corolla, which are borne on elongate spikes. They are almost universally cream, light green, or white-colored. No Peperomia has showy purple flowers with well delveoped petals.
I've replaced your image. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
Cleanup Work
editHi, I'm doing some cleanup work. In June of 2005, you marked Habitats_of_Pachypodium_of_Southern_Continental_Africa_and_Madagascar as needing cleanup. Do you think it still needs it? Should the tag be removed?
- Yeah I think the tag can be removed now. Great job ! Thanks.Qwertzy2 03:44, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Category:Polyphaga
editI see you've created and begun populating Category:Polyphaga. I'm not sure that this is a very useful category, however, since it includes all beetles except for fourteen families. In other words, it merely adds a level to the hierarchy without adding much information. I would rather see the current family-based categorisation continue until it becomes overloaded, which may not be for a long time. --Stemonitis 11:40, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
aloe boiteaui
editHello, J-Philippe Castillon from Reunion island. I'm looking for pictures of A. boiteaui and saw your "aloe boiteani!". It seems to me that this picture isn't A. boiteaui but certainly a Lomatophyllum (maybe citreum from the same region of Madagascar). Have you other pictures of this aloe, flowers if possible, and do you know where this plant comes from?. Maybe an email address, to discuss directly?
Thanks very much.

Plant stubs
editHey there. Thanks for all your new plant pages. I would suggest that aince they are all very short you place the template plant-stub at the bottom of each page. That helps editors knowledgable in the are know that there are articles that need expansion. I have done a few on pages you have created so far. Thanks and keep up the work. --Tainter 02:07, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- I would also ad that if you want to get more specific with the stubs to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Stub_types#Biological_sciences. --Tainter 02:11, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Sources
editHi, can I possibly get you to list the sources you've used on each plant page you create? I'm finding it hard to followup on the details without any pointers as to where to start. Stan 17:25, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
This article doesn't cite any sources, and neither do any of its subarticles, most of which are merely a single line along the lines of "X is a Y of Euphorbiaceae." Could you add some references to support this information, and possibly fill it in so that we aren't dealing with extremely low-content articles redundant to the main list? Little context in Praecereus
editHello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Praecereus, by MelicansMatkin (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Praecereus is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Praecereus, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Praecereus itself. File source problem with File:Alluaudia procera.JPG
editThanks for uploading File:Alluaudia procera.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:15, 13 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 19:15, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

The article Vandera has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Island Monkey talk the talk 16:46, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Vandera
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Vandera requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion (
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:13, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
