Laqtel

Why not try a less confrontational approach on the Laqtel article? If you think the tone is too promotional, why not try re-writing it, instead of simply deleting it? Guettarda (talk) 05:55, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

English Policy

Hey, quick question. Is there a policy document/guideline regarding the use of British/American english around? Thanks. Rasadam (talk) 17:55, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (spelling) covers this - in general, you should use whichever spelling is more appropriate to the topic. For example, the President of the United States article uses American English, but King of England uses British English. If there isn't a specific type of English that would apply (such as Tiger), use whatever the article started with to avoid edit wars. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:01, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Defense(The Anthem)

I'm sorry about that I just thought it was your arbitrary american influenced edits, so that's why I reverted it back to defence and changed defense on his page to the universal spelling defence. I wasn't aware he spelled it the american way as he is not from america. TeePee-20.7 (talk) 03:32, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Tagging for speedy deletion

Hi. Welcome to the New Pages Patrol - not a formal organization, jus people who spend time watching the new pages and weeding out the hopeless ones. A word of advice about tagging for speedy - the criteria are actually quite restricted, and it's worth reading WP:CSD carefully, else you may find the admins decline your speedies. Also, it's best to use the standard tags like {{db-person}} and {{db-spam}} rather than making up reasons: if you can't find a standard tag that fits, it probably means the page doesn't qualify for a speedy, and may need a PROD or just tagging for improvement. But keep patrolling - the flood of unsuitable pages never stops! Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:00, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Unfree images in Bunji Garlin and Rikki Jai

Hi, it seemed obvious to me that those images were inserted for the purpose of showing how those persons look like, not to illustrate content about those musical works - already from the location of the image (in the infobox/at the top). Template:Non-free album cover clearly states that such unfree images must only be used for the second purpose, not for others. Even if the images had been in another place in the article: Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Acceptable_use states:

"Cover art from various items, for identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary)."

and both articles did not even mention the album in question (except for an entry in the discography list) - no "critical commentary" whatsoever.

Right now non-free pictures of the artist are unavailable - how can you be sure, where did you search? (A while ago, I found and uploaded a decent free photo of Maximus Dan [1] using this tool.) But that is not the point anyway - Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria#1 demands that no free equivalent is available, or could be created, and both Bunji Garlin and Rikki Jai are alive and well, so it is entirely possible that free photos of them could be created. The point of this demand is that using an unfree image "until a free one becomes available" would destroy the incentive to provide such a free image, and therefore damage Wikipedia's free content goals.

But thanks anyway for creating the Bunji Garlin article, you filled an important gap! Any chances for Fay-Ann Lyons too? (I liked this video.)

Re: Acusations of spamming the [Trini] section.

As per the email that i sent to you, your accusations are un-true and biased. You are misusing the Wikipedia rules for your own agenda Adam (Rasadam). You don't even reside in Trinidad and haven't for years. The site is NOT spamming and is RELEVANT to the subject matter, if only you took the time to investigate the matter properly. One wonders what is your bias all about. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.94.209.206 (talk) 22:13, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Comments on the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 (proposal).

Hi Rasadam, thanks for your comment on my entry of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 (proposal). I would like to explain some of the reasons why the article should not be deleted as it will be further improved.

First of all, it is not original research but a summary of a official press release which cannot be reproduced on wikipedia for copyright reasons. The press release is referred to at the end of the article.

Then, it is short and still missing some details but it is also one of few references existing so far to the planned events on wikipedia. However, on wikipedia, there exist already entries of the same character (European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008). The article is very likely to grow significantly in content and quality. The entry is the start of a longer article which will cover the objectives, activities and the possibly results of the Year of Creativity and Innovation over a longer time horizon. So the entry is valuable information created specifically for Wikipedia. Please consider this in the discussion.

Thank you for your timeGeorgi.dimitrov (talk) 07:32, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Hmmmmm...

What thinkst thou in regards to the Ato Bolden issue? Legal threats are being aired... at User talk:Vianello Gareth E Kegg I've taken it to [2] (talk) 18:24, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

I think the threats are hot air, if anyone were to be sued it would be the Guardian (UK). I understand the user's concern, he/she is merely trying to protect Ato's character, and they seem to have a vested interest in this by maintain his website. But they are going about this the entirely wrong way, borderline incivility. The should be a content dispute. Rasadam (talk) 20:26, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Talk:Capleton

You tell me what to do and then act as if it is rude when I respond in kind. You had already "crystal balled" me when you asked that question, and now you pretend you yourself have no interests. If you are going to tag an article as having a problem you should general discuss it on the talk page in the first place, but you should certainly be prepared to discuss it politely. If you don't have to answer my questions (how can we improve the article?) I don't have to answer yours (are you familiar with the artist and interest in LGBT rights?). Hyacinth (talk) 05:57, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

You assumed I was going to tell you that based on your lack of knowledge on the subject, you should not edit the page. You were wrong, it never crossed my mind and I never said it. I tagged the article based on precedent for similar articles, which have already been discussed, I linked you the pages. I'm merely trying to help you see where I'm coming from. And I've answered each question of yours, and am just repeating myself at this point. Rasadam (talk) 06:02, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

23 islands

I wasn't able to find a definitive list, but I haven't looked in a long time. I should look into it again, see if I can find anything now that I couldn't back then. Guettarda (talk) 02:44, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, the original act does not specify which islands make up the archipelagic state. It does mention several islands which are not on our list...for what that's worth.

I did find the number 23 in an article by Stephen Kangal from 2004. While I don't think that was the source I used for the number, Kangal should know what he's talking about, since he formerly held the post of Deputy Director, Legal and Marine Affairs Division. He has no email address listed, only a phone number, but not being in TT, I would hesitate to call him to ask for his source. Guettarda (talk) 08:04, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice, I will look up the formatting and redo. As for references I will site them but I have conducted most of the interviews myself. Also they are now using my interviews in the news paper.

I will prolly get the links and cite them as suggested. Thanks for the help:) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ian M.S. Royer (talkcontribs) 15:25, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
