Logged-out editing

Hello. I noticed that here, you made an edit to a page where – judging by your username – you seem to have a conflict of interest, self-reverted a day later and then seemingly logged-out to repeat the same edit. Hi @Blablubbs. Thanks for the question! I'm 2+ years into my tenure as a WMF employee, who did not come from the community and learned how to edit my first day on the job! I did not, however, learn all the nuances (and in fact had to ask someone how to reply to your message here - I hope I got it right!)

Here's what happened: I noticed an error in Maryana's bio, and I thought I'd put my editing skills to practice and make the change! Someone then alerted me about not making those edits from my staff account, so I reverted the edit and attempted to make it from my personal account, not realizing I was logged out and also not realizing that may also be a conflict of interest. Sounds like I was wrong, so I'm happy to revert the edit! Next time I'll bring these things to the talk page. Thank you! RWeissburg (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for responding. This is obviously no big issue, especially looking at how minor the edit is – I'm just trying to get ahead of things and make sure you're aware of our conflict of interest and logged-out editing policies, which can be hard to navigate at times. The TLDR version is: Editing logged-out in ways that could be construed as evading scrutiny or ways that suggest you are multiple people (such as editing the same page both logged out and logged in) is prohibited, and it's generally considered best practice to not edit any articles on subjects you have a close connection to – instead, it is recommended connected editors make edit requests; there's a handy wizard for creating those here.
